Reno, Nevada, USA - Renovation, the 69th World Science Fiction Convention, is delighted to announce a special membership discount offer for adult students and staff at colleges in the Reno area.

To qualify, individuals will need to be students or faculty members at one of the three following colleges when the convention starts on August 17, 2011:

  • University of Nevada, Reno (UNR)
  • Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC)
  • Western Nevada College (WNC).

Qualifying individuals will receive a discount of $30 off the full Adult Attending rate (currently $195) or $10 off an Adult Single Day Admission (on sale from 18 July; rates to be confirmed but expected to range from $30 to $70 depending on the day).

Although students aged 21 or under (as of 17 August 2011) are not eligible for the college discount, they can take advantage of Renovation's Young Adult membership scheme. Young Adult memberships currently cost just $100 for the full convention, with Young Adult Single Day Admissions expected to range from $20 to $40 per day.

Note the following terms and conditions for the college discount offer:

  • Adults holding discounted memberships or day admissions will need to present a currently valid faculty, staff, or student photo ID for their college before being allowed entry.

  • Individuals who purchase discounted memberships but are then unable to attend the convention can sell or transfer their memberships, but only to people who are also eligible for the discount.

Renovation is the 2011 World Science Fiction Convention ("Worldcon"). The first Worldcon occurred in New York City in 1939 and Worldcons have been held annually since then except for 1942-45 when there was no event due to World War II. Renovation's Guests of Honor are Ellen Asher, Charles N. Brown (in memoriam), Tim Powers and Boris Vallejo.
