Discover your body’s neural pathways to calmness, safety, and connection. An intense conversation, a spat with a partner, or even an obnoxious tweet—these situations aren’t life-or-death, yet we often react as if they are. That’s because our bodies treat most perceived threats the same way. Yet one approach has proven to be incredibly effective in training our nervous system to stop overreacting and start responding to the world with greater safety and ease: Polyvagal Theory. In Anchored, expert teacher Deb Dana shares a down-to-earth presentation of Polyvagal Theory, then brings the science to life with practical, everyday ways to transform your relationship with your body. Using field-tested techniques, Dana helps you master the skills to become more aware of your nervous system moment to moment—and change the way you respond to the great and small challenges of life. Here, you’ll explore: • Polyvagal Theory—get to know the biology and function of your vagus nerve, the highway of the nervous system • Befriending Your Nervous System—attune to what’s going on in your body by developing your “neuroception” • Using Your Vagal Brake—discover key techniques to consciously regulate the intensity of your emotions • Connection and Protection—learn to recognize and influence your internal cues for safety and danger • Your Social Engagement System—find ways to create nourishing relationships with others and the world around you • Practices and guidance to gently shape your nervous system for greater resilience, intuition, safety, and wonder Through guided imagery, meditation, self-inquiry, and more, Anchored offers a practical user’s manual for moving from a place of fear and panic into a grounded space of balance and confidence. “Once we know how our nervous system works, we can work with it,” teaches Deb Dana. “We can learn to access an embodied, biological resource that is always present, available, and there to guide us toward well-being.”

Anchored by Bridget E. Baker Pdf

Every time Alora goes to sleep, she wakes up on another world, a magical world, a world that's about to collide with Earth in a very big way. Alora's the only person with the power save them both, only, she's not sure she should. Alora’s life has been anything but magical. Since her parents died, she and her brother have been on the run from a creepy, doggedly determined social worker. In a few more months she turns eighteen, but until then, they're stuck hiding. It’s hardly surprising that she dreams every single night of another world, Terra, where she possesses telekinetic powers. What Alora can’t explain is how, when she breaks her arm in her dreams, she wakes up with the same (very real) injury on Earth. And if her dreams aren't real, shouldn't they be more fun? Since only men on Terra are supposed to be able to move things with their minds, Alora spends all her time there hiding her powers. But when her best friend on Terra is threatened, Alora uses her powers to save him, inadvertently killing the attacker. The next day on Earth, the exact same man she killed on Terra walks into her workplace. . .and drops dead. Suddenly, she's being hunted in both places. Alora must discover how Earth and Terra are connected and how far she’ll go to save a world that may not deserve to be saved. ★Awards ★ 2021 IAN Book of the Year, Fantasy 2021 Publisher's Weekly BookLife Prize Quarter Finalist 2021 Readers' Favorite Urban Fantasy Winner 2021 Whitney Award Nominee ★Trade Reviews ★ Kirkus said, "The author's worldbuilding is astute and unobtrusive. The fantasy series opener finds its rhythm early and then breezes along, keeping readers enthralled. [This] novel is a winner. YA and new-adult readers will take Alora as their own and thrill to the thought of a sequel. An absorbing meld of secondary-world and urban fantasy." "The best part of [Anchored] was the non-stop, action-packed, exciting plot. All I can say is, Bridget E. Baker, where have you been all my life? I can’t believe this is her only book that I have read. I will most definitely be reading more of her work. This book has it all: suspense, mystery, love, action, romance, war, you name it. And it is all perfectly combined to produce the perfect story and the perfect beginning to what I know will be a fantastic series," -Readers' Favorite "Wow, this book is intense. It takes hold and doesn't let go. Fast-paced writing, an awesome storyline, and ridiculously fun world-building make this a new favorite of the year. Plus, Egyptian mythology! A must-read for fantasy lovers," -USA Today Bestselling author, M. Lynn "Anchored is a fast paced, fantasy adventure with a strong heroine. I have no idea how Bridget did it, but she tangled reality and dream fantasy together effortlessly. This is one of those books you will go back and read again and again! I cannot wait for book 2," -USA Today Bestselling author, J.A. Culican "I picked this book up for the breathtaking cover, but I stayed for the fascinating story. I can honestly say I've never read anything quite like this. Usually it takes me a while to connect with a narrator, but I found myself rooting for this funny, self-deprecating protagonist from the first page. Top that off with a story that's solid and compelling, and a twisty plot that pulls at your heartstrings every step of the way, and you've got five amazing stars! My only complaint is that I can't binge read the rest of the series yet!" -USA Today Bestselling Author, Robin D. Mahle "This action-packed novel is a dose of both fantasy and reality. The writing is infectious, jam-packed with emotion, and the tangling of two worlds--the real and the dream--is masterfully done. Anchored is a book not to be missed," -USA Today Bestselling Author, Cortney Pearson "What a fascinating and intriguing urban fantasy read! The characters are beautifully developed, even those only briefly in the story. The angsty dramatic protagonist, Alora, even with all her deep seated problems and issues, remains likable. And there is one constant for Alora--her strong bond to her brother Jesse. Even though her future is supposed to be destined, Alora wants to lead her own life and not be dictated to. This is a wonderful story of different worlds and strong family ties told superbly!" In D'Tale Magazine Publisher's Weekly said, "A gripping, action-packed novel, Anchored holds readers captive and simply won't let go. Baker provides just enough detail and an intriguing premise to keep the reader hooked, revealing answers at exactly the right pace. Baker is an extraordinary writer. Her prose engages, seemingly flowing organically, whether descriptive, action-focused, or dialogue. She is clearly in command of her craft and does a superb job of advancing the plot while providing explanations in measured doses. The premise here is not only the right blend of imagination, mystery, and hold-your-breath action but is entirely unique and leaves the reader wanting more. Baker has created living, breathing characters who, despite the different world presented here and the unique powers the protagonist possesses, are still authentic and relatable. This book is a 10 out of 10." Anchored by Mort Crim Pdf

HONORED AS A NOTABLE 100 BOOK IN THE 2021 SHELF UNBOUND BEST INDIE BOOK COMPETITION Mort Crim has reported on major conflicts around the world for more than four decades and was a major inspiration for Will Ferrell's performance in the movie Anchorman. Crim's memoir takes readers behind the camera to show what life was like when the local anchorman was as revered as the professional athlete, and just as overpaid. It was a glamorous life, working alongside some of journalism's legends, like Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley, Dan Rather, and Ted Koppel. The son of an evangelical minister in a conservative church, Crim suffered his first crisis of faith at the age of 15. Despite nagging questions, Crim eventually followed his father's path into ministry. But the more he delved into the Bible, the more his faith was shaken. Unable to defend things he wasn't sure of from the pulpit, Crim left the ministry for a career in journalism, determined to pursue truth. After a four-year stint in the Air Force, he earned his master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University, and by the age of 30, had made it to New York—the epicenter of his profession. As a national correspondent for ABC, Crim anchored the network's top-rated morning radio show and covered America's newly-developing manned space program. When Neil Armstrong took that first step on the moon, it was Crim's voice that described the historic event for millions around the world. At the urging of Walter Cronkite, Crim moved from network radio into the heady world of television news. At KYW in Philadelphia, Mort Crim was paired with the late Jessica Savitch, and their anchor team spawned the idea for Will Ferrell's Anchorman movies. Crim's journey for truth will resonate with anyone raised in a cocoon of certainty that they felt compelled to question.

The polyvagal theory presented in client-friendly language. This book offers therapists an integrated approach to adding a polyvagal foundation to their work with clients. With clear explanations of the organizing principles of Polyvagal Theory, this complex theory is translated into clinician and client-friendly language. Using a unique autonomic mapping process along with worksheets designed to effectively track autonomic response patterns, this book presents practical ways to work with clients' experiences of connection. Through exercises that have been specifically created to engage the regulating capacities of the ventral vagal system, therapists are given tools to help clients reshape their autonomic nervous systems. Adding a polyvagal perspective to clinical practice draws the autonomic nervous system directly into the work of therapy, helping clients re-pattern their nervous systems, build capacities for regulation, and create autonomic pathways of safety and connection. With chapters that build confidence in understanding Polyvagal Theory, chapters that introduce worksheets for mapping, tracking, and practices for re-patterning, as well as a series of autonomic meditations, this book offers therapists a guide to practicing polyvagal-informed therapy. The Polyvagal Theory in Therapy is essential reading for therapists who work with trauma and those who seek an easy and accessible way of understanding the significance that Polyvagal Theory has to clinical work.

Polyvagal Flip Chart: Understanding the Science of Safety (Norton Series on Interpersonal Neurobiology) by Deb Dana Pdf

Offers therapists a low tech–high impact, interactive way to explain polyvagal theory to clients. When clients are stuck in the cognitive experience of their story, an explanation of polyvagal theory helps to bring their attention to the autonomic experience— to bring the importance of the biology of their experience back into awareness. Yet polyvagal theory can be challenging and intimidating to explain. This flip chart offers therapists an easy, standardized way to support clients in understanding the role of the autonomic nervous system in their lives. Using a flip chart makes psycho-education an interactive experience. Therapists can feel confident in teaching their clients polyvagal theory by following the chart. With a flip chart visible during sessions, the therapist can: remind clients of the ways the autonomic nervous system has been shaped and is active in their daily living experience, display a page corresponding to the present moment, thus anchoring that experience in the theory, keep a page of the hierarchy visible when working with a client's habitual response pattern.

Anchored in Place by Leslie Bank,Nico Cloete Pdf

Tensions in South African universities have traditionally centred around equity (particularly access and affordability), historical legacies (such as apartheid and colonialism), and the shape and structure of the higher education system. What has not received sufficient attention, is the contribution of the university to place-based development. This volume is the first in South Africa to engage seriously with the place-based developmental role of universities. In the international literature and policy there has been an increasing integration of the university with place-based development, especially in cities. This volume weighs in on the debate by drawing attention to the place-based roles and agency of South African universities in their local towns and cities. It acknowledges that universities were given specific development roles in regions, homelands and towns under apartheid, and comments on why sub-national, place-based development has not been a key theme in post-apartheid, higher education planning. Given the developmental crisis in the country, universities could be expected to play a more constructive and meaningful role in the development of their own precincts, cities and regions. But what should that role be? Is there evidence that this is already occurring in South Africa, despite the lack of a national policy framework? What plans and programmes are in place, and what is needed to expand the development agency of universities at the local level? Who and what might be involved? Where should the focus lie, and who might benefit most, and why? Is there a need perhaps to approach the challenges of college towns, secondary cities and metropolitan centers differently? This book poses some of these questions as it considers the experiences of a number of South African universities, including Wits, Pretoria, Nelson Mandela University and especially Fort Hare as one of its post-centenary challenges.

A Phillips Curve with Anchored Expectations and Short-Term Unemployment by Laurence M. Ball,Mr.Sandeep Mazumder Pdf

This paper examines the recent behavior of core inflation in the United States. We specify a simple Phillips curve based on the assumptions that inflation expectations are fully anchored at the Federal Reserve’s target, and that labor-market slack is captured by the level of shortterm unemployment. This equation explains inflation behavior since 2000, including the failure of high total unemployment since 2008 to reduce inflation greatly. The fit of our equation is especially good when we measure core inflation with the Cleveland Fed’s series on weighted median inflation. We also propose a more general Phillips curve in which core inflation depends on short-term unemployment and on expected inflation as measured by the Survey of Professional Forecasters. This specification fits U.S. inflation since 1985, including both the anchored-expectations period of the 2000s and the preceding period when expectations were determined by past levels of inflation.
