Autumn's Deceit by Mary Stone Pdf

To Special Agent Autumn Trent, it feels like déjà vu when a four-year-old boy appears on the front steps of FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit with a package taped to his chest and a note for "Agent Parrish and his superhero team." After all, it seems like just yesterday her best friend Special Agent Winter Black was strapped in an explosive vest among a crowd of unsuspecting civilians. But instead of a bomb, the package holds a hand-drawn map and the cling-wrapped heart of the boy’s mother. And instead of Winter’s deranged brother, they’re dealing with an equally demented madwoman who poses just as much threat to the entire Richmond team. One by one. Jane Doe is quietly stalking them, taking innocent lives to put each member of the team through their own worst nightmare. And she’s pulling it off right under their noses. Who is she, and where will she strike next? Autumn is certain the answer lies in decoding the map. But can she figure it out before more victims die? And before Jane Doe breaks them all?

Luxuriant Gems of the Spring and Autumn by Zhongshu Dong Pdf

The Spring and Autumn (Chunqiu) is a chronicle kept by the dukes of the state of Lu from 722 to 481 B.C.E. Luxuriant Gems of the "Spring and Autumn" (Chunqiu fanlu) follows the interpretations of the Gongyang Commentary, whose transmitters sought to explicate the special language of the Spring and Autumn. The work is often ascribed to the Han scholar and court official Dong Zhongshu, but, as this study reveals, the text is in fact a compendium of writings by a variety of authors spanning several generations. It depicts a utopian vision of a flourishing humanity that they believed to be Confucius's legacy to the world. The Gongyang masters thought that Confucius had written the Spring and Autumn, employing subtle phrasing to indicate approval or disapproval of important events and personages. Luxuriant Gems therefore augments Confucian ethical and philosophical teachings with chapters on cosmology, statecraft, and other topics drawn from contemporary non-Confucian traditions. A major resource, this book features the first complete English-language translation of Luxuriant Gems, divided into eight thematic sections with introductions that address dating, authorship, authenticity, and the relationship between the Spring and Autumn and the Gongyang approach. Critically illuminating early Chinese philosophy, religion, literature, and politics, this book conveys the brilliance of intellectual life in the Han dynasty during the formative decades of the Chinese imperial state.

The Eagle in Autumn by Rhoe Mallock Pdf

The year is 2022. The South China Sea is the busiest waterway in the world, and is on the verge of becoming a cauldron of violent naval destruction. With interviews, verified press reports, and the U.S. government's investigation transcripts, The Eagle in Autumn describes the criminal activity that transpires at the U.S. defense contractor Dayton-Anderson--activity that considerably affects the outcome of the conflict. Espionage runs rampant as agents working for the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) try to gain access to security intelligence from the Americans, specifically on the RU-35, a field upgrade to a Howitzer-type rocket-propelled artillery shell and also the Conqueror missile guidance system. Recruited by the PLAN to steal American secrets, Ian Manning befriends Anne Seybold, a beautiful scientist who is managing the RU-35 and Conqueror projects. Using Seybold, he blackmails the CEO of Dayton-Anderson, a company contracted by the US Government to develop both of the top secret programs. In the years leading up to the South China Sea War, the battle for secrets exacts a heavy price. But it is those secrets, combined with a misguided U.S. foreign policy, a crumbling U.S. infrastructure, and corrupt corporate officers, that end up contributing to the most significant U.S. naval conflict of the twenty-first century.

Autumn's Magical Pact by Leigh Ann Edwards Pdf

Can one choice alter destiny or is fate set in stone? After her father’s unexplained disappearance, the entrancingly beautiful healer Rhianwyn Albray finds herself in a perilous position. She’s nineteen, living alone, and unwed—which, by the king’s law, is strictly forbidden. Several men rally to claim her as their bride, but when a mysterious Irishman, Lord Broccan Mulryan, requests the king’s permission to wed her, Rhianwyn immediately objects. Though he is handsome and there is an undeniable physical attraction, he’s also demanding, arrogant, and not husband material. Rhianwyn meets with her three closest friends, Elspeth, Selena, and Lilliana, at the mystical stone circle near their small English village. Bemoaning their inevitable and undesired fates, each presumes the others will fare better. Then a peculiar old crone offers them a magical opportunity to trade lives—a binding pact that will forever change them, their friendships, and their destinies. With a world of possibilities ahead of her, Rhianwyn must decide: is there a future for her with Lord Broccan?

Civil-Military Relations in Chinese History by Kai Filipiak Pdf

Modern studies of civil--military relations recognise that the military is separate from civil society, with its own norms and values, principles of organization, and regulations. Key issues of concern include the means by which – and the extent to which – the civil power controls the military; and also the ways in which military values and approaches permeate and affect wider society. This book examines these issues in relation to China, covering the full range of Chinese history from the Zhou, Qin, and Han dynasties up to the Communist takeover in 1949. It traces how civil--military relations were different in different periods, explores how military specialization and professionalization developed, and reveals how military weakness often occurred when the civil authority with weak policies exerted power over the military. Overall, the book shows how attitudes to the military’s role in present day Communist China were forged in earlier periods.
