Fratelli Tutti (All Brothers): Encyclical Letter on Fraternity and Social Friendship by Pope Francis Pdf

In his new encyclical "FRATELLI TUTTI", Pope Francis calls for a more fraternal society that does not just continue as before after the Corona crisis. What are the great ideals and the concretely practicable ways for those who want to build a more just and fraternal world in daily relationships, in society, in politics, in institutions? This is the question that "Fratelli tutti" intends to answer: the Pope defines it as a "social encyclical" which takes its title from the 'Admonitions' of St. Francis of Assisi, who used those words "to address all the brothers and sisters and offer them a form of life with the flavor of the Gospel ". The Encyclical aims to promote a universal aspiration toward fraternity and social friendship. In the background of the Encyclical is the Covid-19 pandemic which, Francis reveals, "unexpectedly erupted" as he "was writing this letter". But the global health emergency has helped demonstrate that "no one can face life in isolation" and that the time has truly come to "dream, then, as a single human family" in which we are "brothers and sisters all".

Fratelli Tutti by William T. Cavanaugh,Carlos Mendoza-Alvarez,Ikenna Ugochukwu Okafor,Daniel Franklin E. Pilario Pdf

This volume is the first truly global commentary on a papal encyclical. Pope Francis published Fratelli Tutti in October 2020 in the midst of interrelated global crises: climate catastrophe, ongoing racial injustice, a widening gap between the rich and the desperately poor, battles over human migration, the rise of authoritarian politics, and the erosion of democracy, all exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The encyclical provided a sobering assessment of the devastation but also a hopeful vision of solidarity and healing. The responses in this book not only reflect on Fratelli Tutti from a great diversity of locations and perspectives but also attempt to model Francis’s call to fraternity and sorority within this volume. In these pages, scholars from around the world create a conversation meant to embody one of the virtues that Francis elicits in the encyclical: creative openness to the reciprocal gifts of others. This book takes up Pope Francis’s invitation to continue talking, thinking, and acting, always in a climate of both confidence and audacity, to promote social friendship among the people of the world.

Ecology and Religion by John Grim,Mary Evelyn Tucker Pdf

From the Psalms in the Bible to the sacred rivers in Hinduism, the natural world has been integral to the world’s religions. John Grim and Mary Evelyn Tucker contend that today’s growing environmental challenges make the relationship ever more vital. This primer explores the history of religious traditions and the environment, illustrating how religious teachings and practices both promoted and at times subverted sustainability. Subsequent chapters examine the emergence of religious ecology, as views of nature changed in religious traditions and the ecological sciences. Yet the authors argue that religion and ecology are not the province of institutions or disciplines alone. They describe four fundamental aspects of religious life: orienting, grounding, nurturing, and transforming. Readers then see how these phenomena are experienced in a Native American religion, Orthodox Christianity, Confucianism, and Hinduism. Ultimately, Grim and Tucker argue that the engagement of religious communities is necessary if humanity is to sustain itself and the planet. Students of environmental ethics, theology and ecology, world religions, and environmental studies will receive a solid grounding in the burgeoning field of religious ecology.

Cyrille's Talk by Danny Brock,Cyrille Santos Pdf

Jesus exhorted his disciples to love one another as he loved them and to be compassionate as your Father is compassionate. But overcrowed schedules, looming deadlines, and competing demands can set a frenetic pace in the Catholic high school. Our students join the fray, trying to keep up. They proffer a cooperative demeanor for teachers, while inside they are falling apart from stress and anxiety. A culture of compassion can seem more a heavenly ideal than an earthly reality. It’s time for a reset. Building a culture of compassion takes more than words in a mission statement or promotional brochure. It is hard work. But this is what students long for, and when they receive it they realize that the school really does care about them. Between the covers of Cyrille’s Talk the reader will taste and see what a culture of compassion is like and discover what it takes to make it happen.

Love? A worship pleasing to God by La Civiltà Cattolica Pdf

A collection of 12 articles from the December 2021 edition of La Civiltà Cattolica, the highly respected and oldest Catholic journal published from Rome. When one thinks of evangelization and missionary life, often one of the first people to spring to mind is St Paul. In our December issue one of our regular contributors Prof. Marc Rastoin from the Pontifical Biblical Institute of Rome looks at the life of St Paul, the apostle par excellence. Continuing his series on the Virtues, Giovanni Cucci looks at Fortitude: A demanding virtue, revealing it is an indispensable virtue for living together. When it is lacking, evils of all kinds flourish, because those who could prevent them fail to take a stand! Andrea Vicini, one of our regular U.S. contributors and another educator, is a moral theologian and bioethicist at Boston College. In Pope Francis, Vaccines and Global Health he reflects on the importance of commitment to health care and identified three significant areas that comprise one solution: traditional health care practice; public health; and global health. Pope Francis’ new motu proprio Traditionis Custodes (“Guardians of Tradition”), addresses necessary changes to the Roman Missal in Unity and Concord in the Use of the Roman Missal: An analysis of ‘Traditionis Custodes’. Francis himself is our guide, explaining in this letter the reasons that led him to pronounce on the use of this liturgical book that for more than thirty years has been in search of peace. Following on from Spiritual Parents, published in the November issue, we have another piece from Miguel Angel Fiorito Spiritual Discernment. Fiorito explains the search for God at every moment is the hinge on which Saint Ignatius of Loyola’s whole doctrine of spiritual discernment turns.

The Catholic Teacher by James D. Kirylo Pdf

James D. Kirylo gives a personal and reflective account of what it means to be a Catholic teacher, drawing on the rich history of the Church and its inclusive nature through ecumenical, interfaith, and interreligious dialogue, along with the Church's social teachings and its link to liberation theology and a critical pedagogy in the light of faith. Recognizing teaching as a sacred vocation, Kirylo covers how faith should inform the practical matters of teaching and how these intersect with broader debates outside the classroom, including the COVID-19 pandemic, gun control, the sanctity of life, and climate change. The Catholic Teacher: Teaching for Social Justice with Faith, Hope, and Love is a book that underscores the dialectical interweaving of faith and action in the effort to foster a more just, loving, and right world.

Christianity by John Chathanatt Pdf

Published in the Series Encyclopedia of Indian Religions, this volume is devoted to Christianity in India, where it has had a long presence, going back to the time of the apostles of Jesus Christ. Divided into two parts, this volume focuses on the history, origin, organizations and local engagements, belief system, worship practices, Rites, Rituals, Christian life, Contributions, Spirituality and a few of the main doctrinal items. The Second Part covers the doctrinal and theological arena. It examines the earlier phase of the history of Christianity starting with the traditional belief of the arrival of St. Thomas in AD 52, moving to the periods of its association with the Chaldean church, the Portuguese, the Dutch, English and so on. This volume highlights the missionary activities of persons like St. Francis Xavier, the creative contributions made to the inter-religious dialogue by such people as Roberto de Nobili (1577-1656) and Swami Abhishiktananda (1910-1973), the linguistic and educational contributions of some of the pioneers like the German Jesuit Johanne Ernst Hanxleden (known as Arnos Padiri) (1681-1732), Herman Gundert (1814-1893), St. Elias Kuriakos Chavara (1805-1871), and, a fortiori, the enormous contributions in the healthcare area throughout the country. Caring for and serving the socio-economically marginalized ones, the peripheralized people formed an integral part of the Christian activity In India, as it is done even today. This is highlighted very much in the volume. It, further, explores the contact India had with European Christianity, showing that European Christianity proved to have wider influence in the Norther part of India, unlike India’s early episodic encounters with Palestinian and Persian forms of Christianity, which had deep influence in the Southern part of India. The volume also highlights the inner struggle among the followers resulting even in its division originating at the Synod of Diamper in 1599 manifesting, by and large, the Church-state ‘love and hate’ relationships. In fine, in spite of the drawbacks of putting the herculean task of two thousand years of history in eight hundred pages or so, this volume gives a rather comprehensive view of Christianity in India especially to those who are unfamiliar with its life and dynamics in the Indian context. The wide range of photographs, especially of the churches revealing the architectural beauty and multiplicity along with the ensample of art and paintings and pilgrimage centers adds to the enrichment of the volume.
