A Death in Eden by Keith McCafferty Pdf

"Keith McCafferty is a top-notch, first-rate, can't-miss novelist." --C.J. Box, #1 New York Times bestselling author When scarecrows appear in the cliffs above Montana's famous Smith River and a little girl reports being chased by one in the night, state investigator Harold Little Feather is brought in to find the culprit. Are the menacing effigies related to a copper-mining project that threatens the purity of the Smith? That's Harold's initial suspicion, but his investigation takes an ominous turn when a decapitated body is found in the river. As Harold's search leads him back in time through the canyon's history, Sean Stranahan launches his raft upriver. He has been hired to guide a floating party that includes Clint McCaine, the manager of the mine project; Bart Trueblood, the president of “Save The Smith,” a grassroots organization devoted to stopping the project; and the documentarian filming their arguments. McCaine and Trueblood grew up on the Smith on neighboring ranches, and as they travel downstream, it’s revealed that the two share a past that runs much deeper and darker than their opposing viewpoints. The currents of the seemingly unrelated trips will soon flow together, and Stranahan's long-time love Sheriff Martha Ettinger will enter the fray as the boats hurtle toward a date with danger at a place called Table Rock. A Death in Eden is the seventh novel in the acclaimed Sean Stranahan mystery series.

American Small-Town Fiction, 1940-1960 by Nathanael T. Booth Pdf

In literature and popular culture, small town America is often idealized as distilling the national spirit. Does the myth of the small town conceal deep-seated reactionary tendencies or does it contain the basis of a national re-imagining? During the period between 1940 and 1960, America underwent a great shift in self-mythologizing that can be charted through representations of small towns. Authors like Henry Bellamann and Grace Metalious continued the tradition of Sherwood Anderson in showing the small town--by extension, America itself--profoundly warping the souls of its citizens. Meanwhile, Ray Bradbury, Toshio Mori and Ross Lockridge, Jr., sought to identify the small town's potential for growth, away from the shadows cast by World War II toward a more inclusive, democratic future. Examined together, these works are key to understanding how mid-20th century America refashioned itself in light of a new postwar order, and how the literary small town both obscures and reveals contradictions at the heart of the American experience.

Living Above Sin and Death by Anthony Ametu Ajayi,Damian Ajayi Pdf

The soul of man is bedevilled with the fear of death as he finds himself enclosed in a body of death limiting his carnal understanding to a fate of hopelessness and uncertainty of the judgement beyond death. What a pity! This book provides an escape from his misguided thoughts. Using the experience of scriptures based on Bible references, Living Beyond Sin And Death beams out the light of hope beyond the body of death. That is the radiant light of the expression of God, a verified assurance of promise that cannot fail. For example, the Bible notes that the gift of God is eternal life. Furthermore, it presents Jesus declaring his custody of the keys of hell and death. Why then should a soul be in fear of death if not ignorance? Rather, a soul needs death to grow into his likeness to his Maker and thereabouts return to embrace his God in eternal glory. This is great faith and a worthy fellowship. Get a copy!

The Life Of The Dead by Eddie B. Jackson Pdf

The style and layout of this book greatly enhance one's ability to grasp the real truth the author seeks to bring to the reader's attention. This book will likely turn out to be the most consoling and uplifting for the bereaved that has ever been published. Plainly and undeniably, this book shows that no one goes to heaven or hell ahead of others. Anyone who believes the whole counsel of the Bible will also accept this work. It is literally Bible centered. It points to passages of Scripture that reveal the whole truth about the status of the dead. The author actually shows that God has designed the human being so as to experience not one moment between death and resurrection. The author does not build any points upon philosophical reasoning or deduction, but he shows that no one remains dead longer than another due to moving from time to eternity. Almost anyone will lose all fear of death, and the degree of dread and grief will also be lessened significantly as a result of reading this book. It covers not just life after death, but also explains why natural death is necessary. The book covers this in such a manner that reveals the necessity. One gets to see that physical death is the greatest grace God has bestowed upon fallen man, saved the shed blood of Christ Jesus. One shall plainly understand why God allowed man to be tempted by Satan in the first place. This book is among the most compact, yet, simple and short in word count one will likely encounter. It contains a chapter designed to console the bereaved who may not be in a position to read the whole book at that moment.

Rethinking Life by Shane Claiborne Pdf

Drawing on Scripture, church history, and his own story, Shane Claiborne explores how a passion for social justice issues surrounding life and death--such as war, gun ownership, the death penalty, racial injustice, abortion, poverty, and the environment--intersects with our faith as we advocate for life in its totality. Many of us wonder how to think about and act on issues of life and death beyond abortion and the death penalty--yet the heated debates in our churches and the confusion of our own hearts sometimes feel overwhelming. What does a balanced, Christian view of what it means to be "pro-life" really look like? Combining stories, theological reflection, and a little wit with a Southern accent, activist Shane Claiborne explores the battle between life and death that goes back to the Garden of Eden. Shane draws on his childhood growing up in the Bible Belt, his own change of perspective on how to advocate for life, and his years of working on behalf of all people to help us: Learn from the Bible and the early church about valuing life Deepen our understanding of what a pro-life stance can look like Discover ways to discuss topics that are dividing our culture and churches Find encouragement when we feel politically homeless Renew our hope that there is a good way forward, even in difficult times We need a new movement that stands up for life--without exceptions. This moving and incredibly timely book creates a larger framework for thinking about God's love and our faith as we embrace a consistent ethic that values human life from womb to tomb.

Issues of Death by Michael Neill Pdf

Death, like most experiences that we think of as natural, is a product of the human imagination: all animals die, but only human beings suffer Death; and what they suffer is shaped by their own time and culture. Tragedy was one of the principal instruments through which the culture of early modern England imagined the encounter with mortality. The essays in this book approach the theatrical reinvention of Death from three perspectives. Those in Part I explore Death as a trope of apocalypse — a moment of un-veiling or dis-covery that is figured both in the fearful nakedness of the Danse Macabre and in the shameful openings enacted in the new theatres of anatomy. Separate chapters explore the apocalyptic design of two of the periods most powerful tragedies — Shakespeare's Othello, and Middleton and Rowley's The Changeling. In Part 2, Neill explores the psychological and affective consequences of tragedy's fiercely end-driven narrative in a number of plays where a longing for narrative closure is pitched against a particularly intense dread of ending. The imposition of an end is often figured as an act of writerly violence, committed by the author or his dramatic surrogate. Extensive attention is paid to Hamlet as an extreme example of the structural consequences of such anxiety. The function of revenge tragedy as a response to the radical displacement of the dead by the Protestant abolition of purgatory — one of the most painful aspects of the early modern re-imagining of death — is also illustrated with particular clarity. Finally, Part 3 focuses on the way tragedy articulates its challenge to the undifferentiating power of death through conventions and motifs borrowed from the funereal arts. It offers detailed analyses of three plays — Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra, Webster's The Duchess of Malfi, and Ford's The Broken Heart. Here, funeral is rewritten as triumph, and death becomes the chosen instrument of an heroic self-fashioning designed to dress the arbitrary abruption of mortal ending in a powerful aesthetic of closure.
