Lovers and Liars Box Set by Paul Alan Fahey Pdf

Lovers and Liars brings together Paul Alan Fahey’s thrilling gay historical wartime romances for the first time in one box set. Contains the stories: Bomber's Moon: Following one’s heart can be a dangerous game, as Leslie Atwater discovers in this exciting story set during the early stages of the London Blitz. Leslie’s investigation into his lover Edward’s death takes him from Central London to a lighthouse on the English Channel. Tension mounts and, in a showdown with German spies, bombs fall, people die, and Leslie gets more than he bargains for in his search for the truth behind his lover’s untimely death. Weep Not for the Past: In early 1941, U-boats patrol offshore and are a constant threat to British livelihood, as are the daily bombings in London. Leslie befriends an enigmatic woman who resembles his favorite actress. But when disaster strikes, Leslie, Edward, and Leslie's cousin Caroline must work together to discover the truth. Was it a tragic accident or premeditated murder? A Manx Tale: In late summer 1941, Caroline and her new husband Cyril are honeymooning on the Isle of Man. In spite of the war raging around them, Caroline is enchanted by the small island’s history, quaint customs and superstitious beliefs. But as unexplainable events unfold, she becomes increasingly aware of sinister forces at work. Will logic and rationality prevail, or will it take a bit of magic and island whimsy to sort everything out? A Christmas in Kent: It's December 1941. Caroline, Cyril, Edward, and Leslie are home for Christmas from their recent exploits. On the surface all seems right within Caroline’s world, yet there’s something bothering her that can’t be ignored much longer. Christmas in Kent proves to be full of surprises. A Deadly Game of Malice: Caroline Graham is six months pregnant, miserable, and bored. Then a rash of poison pen letters circulate in the village and residents start to die. With Leslie’s help, Caroline must use all her cunning and put her life at risk to uncover a cold-blooded murderer -- a killer who continues to raise the stakes in a deadly game of malice. Kindred Spirit: A bomb explodes near St. Andrew’s Home for Boys, unearthing a skeleton of a young boy. As Leslie, Edward, and Robert set about identifying the remains, the shocking discovery stirs up an old antagonism between the two brothers and brings to light a series of repressed memories for Leslie. Ultimately, it rests on Leslie and Edward to solve the senseless murder of a kindred spirit.

A Sampler of Uncommon Sense and Good Times/ Emotional Trips, Whimsy and More in Rhymes by George L. Hand Pdf

This book follows the popular, "Huckleberry Days," The author's poetic presentation of the good old ways. Common sense is not so common you'll find. Lack of sense is a great resource to be mined. This poet points out where we go astray. Sometimes we get disaster when we get our way. The first chapter contains advice for the old. Some hate this word, but the alternative will leave you cold. Next are war stories about the greatest genertion. The author will always hold them in total veneration. There's some philosophy and complaints about modern life. Thoughts on religion, nature, and political strife. The male-female conflict is also treated. With some whimsy and humor the book is completed. The author is 76, a pretty old man. He's always had the drive of, "I think I can." Surprisingly, he has spent his whole life's career Doing what's incomprehensible. He was an engineer. To prove that old dogs can learn new tricks, He writes poetry which gives him kicks. He lives in Eastern Mass. with his bride of 54 years. For this he deserves some kudos and four cheers.

Whimsy and Spice by Isaac M. Flores Pdf

Presenting a collection of poetry and short stories for a wide variety of tastes, Whimsy and Spice offers an exploration of themes both light and dark, wandering into tiny glimpses of a small world that appears out of our control. Author Isaac M. Flores relies on language of great simplicity in both his free-form verses and his thought-provoking prose. It’s often said that your shoes are the first thing people notice about you—a message that John the Sole Saver certainly took to heart in one of the short stories in this collection. Starlight and the moon play into this collection, as do solitude and our first loves. The work ranges from snow-covered mountainsides to deserts and from small towns to large cities, sharing brief, informal presentations of great thoughts and writings of well-known authors along the way. For Truly Sure Know you this, for truly sure, my deserts and my mountains. I will always be your lover though you may forever sit so lonely ... and so nobly all endure.

Island Whimsy by Celerie Kemble Pdf

A house by the sea should be a house of dreams. Where windows and doors are thrown open to the ocean, and gusts of cool, salty air turn us all into kids again--buoyant and joyful. Spending childhood days on the beach and in the magical, romantic chaos of her family's rambling house internationally renowned interior designer Celerie Kemble has a deep-rooted connection to the sun and surf. However, in the summer of 2004, Kemble laid eyes on a wild swath of jungle in the Dominican Republic next to minty-blue water and an endless stretch of golden sand, she fell madly in love. Over many years, she designed a home away from home there, an island retreat--a clubhouse and a grouping of family homes and guesthouses--suffused with light and air, full of indoor and outdoor rooms for relaxation. In her latest book, Island Whimsy, Kemble recounts the deeply personal and creative journey of designing Playa Grande and bringing this labor of love to life. The chapters of this book are organized around the different ways Kemble sought to braid her family's story into the larger landscape of Playa Grande and to provide inspiration, joy, and respite to all who come. "Fantasy" looks at the way she used whimsical, dreamlike elements--from the latticework cabanas by the pool to the lamb statues on the property who "mow" the lawns--throughout the property to create a sense of play and possibility. "Light, Salt, Air" describes how she went about bringing the most precious elements of the beach into the homes themselves, creating a feeling of flow and permeability, and reminding visitors constantly of where they are. "In the Jungle" looks at the design cues she took from the flora and fauna of the tropical rainforest surrounding Playa Grande to create an alluring tension between chaos and refinement. "Sweet & Dark" examines the surprising color combinations that tango into life in the tropics--whether in the form of tribal prints in hot Gauguin colors mixed with Jordan-almond pastels or handmade objects like a papier-mâché lobster mask that brings a shout of spirit to a room. Finally, "Texture" focuses on the powerful impact that thoughtfully layered materials--from rough, local coquina stone and painted antique wicker to the smooth polished cotton of Dutch wax prints--have on a space. Throughout this lovingly crafted book, ideas abound for anyone decorating a sunny home or fantasizing about spending time in one. Kemble shares inspiration for creating a sense of openness to the sea, sand, and sky; offering places to wash sandy feet or perfect viewing spots for a sunset-saturated drink; and infusing spaces with invitation, welcome, and magic.

Spoil Island by Charlie Hailey Pdf

Spoil islands are overlooked places combining dirt with paradise, waste-land with “brave new world,” and wildness with human intervention. Mundane products of dredging, these islands form an uninvestigated archipelago that demonstrates the potential value and contested re-valuation of landscapes of waste. Research navigates the U.S. east coast from New York City to Key West, examines these marginalized topographies to understand emergent concerns of 21st-century placemaking, public space, and infrastructure, and discovers that spoil islands constitute an unprecedented public commons, where human agency and nature are inextricably linked.
