The financial industry's leading independent research firm's forward-looking assessment into high frequency trading Once regarded as a United States-focused trend, today, high frequency trading is gaining momentum around the world. Yet, while high frequency trading continues to be one of the hottest trends in the markets, due to the highly proprietary nature of the computer transactions, financial firms and institutions have made very little available in terms of information or "how-to" techniques. That's all changed with The High Frequency Game Changer: How Automated Trading Strategies Have Revolutionized the Markets. In the book, Zubulake and Lee present an overview of how high frequency trading is changing the face of the market. The book Explains how we got here and what it means to traders and investors Details how to build a high frequency trading firm, including the relevant tools, strategies, and trading talent Defines key components common to HFT such as algorithms, low latency trading infrastructure, collocation etc. The High Frequency Game Changer takes a highly controversial and extremely complicated subject and makes it accessible to anyone with an interest or stake in financial markets.

Key FeaturesDesign, train, and evaluate machine learning algorithms that underpin automated trading strategiesCreate a research and strategy development process to apply predictive modeling to trading decisionsLeverage NLP and deep learning to extract tradeable signals from market and alternative dataBook Description The explosive growth of digital data has boosted the demand for expertise in trading strategies that use machine learning (ML). This revised and expanded second edition enables you to build and evaluate sophisticated supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning models. This book introduces end-to-end machine learning for the trading workflow, from the idea and feature engineering to model optimization, strategy design, and backtesting. It illustrates this by using examples ranging from linear models and tree-based ensembles to deep-learning techniques from cutting edge research. This edition shows how to work with market, fundamental, and alternative data, such as tick data, minute and daily bars, SEC filings, earnings call transcripts, financial news, or satellite images to generate tradeable signals. It illustrates how to engineer financial features or alpha factors that enable an ML model to predict returns from price data for US and international stocks and ETFs. It also shows how to assess the signal content of new features using Alphalens and SHAP values and includes a new appendix with over one hundred alpha factor examples. By the end, you will be proficient in translating ML model predictions into a trading strategy that operates at daily or intraday horizons, and in evaluating its performance. Networks, systems, and data join the financial markets into a single interrelated environment that processes millions of transactions in real time. This volume, the third of four, investigates the interconnected nature of financial markets by examining networks, systems, and data in turn. Describing what technologies do instead of how they work, the book shows how they drive each step of the trading process. We learn why the speed and scope of financial automation are growing, and we observe the increasing importance of data in the regulatory process. Contributing to these explanations are visual cues that guide readers through the material. If knowledge comes from information, then this volume reveals much about the core of the finance industry. Explains how technologies and data make the financial markets one of the most automated industries Describes how each step in the trading process employs technology and generates information Presents major concepts with graphs and easily understood definitions

Global Financial Stability Report, April 2019 Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle

The April 2019 Global Financial Stability Report (GFSR) finds that despite significant variability over the past two quarters, financial conditions remain accommodative. As a result, financial vulnerabilities have continued to build in the sovereign, corporate, and nonbank financial sectors in several systemically important countries, leading to elevated medium-term risks. The report attempts to provide a comprehensive assessment of these vulnerabilities while focusing specifically on corporate sector debt in advanced economies, the sovereign–financial sector nexus in the euro area, China’s financial imbalances, volatile portfolio flows to emerging markets, and downside risks to the housing market. These vulnerabilities require action by policymakers, including through the clear communication of any changes in their monetary policy outlook, the deployment and expansion of macroprudential tools, the stepping up of measures to repair public and private sector balance sheets, and the strengthening of emerging market resilience to foreign portfolio outflows. This GFSR also takes an in depth look at house prices at risk, a measure of downside risks to future house price growth—using theory, insights from past analyses, and new statistical techniques applied to 32 advanced and emerging market economies and major cities. The chapter finds that lower house price momentum, overvaluation, excessive credit growth, and tighter financial conditions predict heightened downside risks to house prices up to three years ahead. The measure of house prices at risk helps forecast downside risks to GDP growth and adds to early-warning models for financial crises. Policymakers can use estimates of house prices at risk to complement other surveillance indicators of housing market vulnerabilities and guide macroprudential policy actions aimed at building buffers and reducing vulnerabilities. Downside risks to house prices could also be relevant for monetary policymakers when forming their views on the downside risks to the economic and inflation outlook. Authorities considering measures to manage capital flows might also find such information useful when a surge in capital inflows increases downside risks to house prices and when other policy options are limited.
