Pursuing the Dream Bone by Morton Marcus Pdf

Poetry. PURSUING THE DREAM BONE is a new collection of prose poetry from Morton Marcus. Reflecting on everything from the mundane to the sacred, Marcus explores issues of family, identity, loss, and the simple joys of everyday life. His style--by turns witty, poignant, and compassionate--remains fresh and accessible. More personal than his other prose poem books, PURSUING THE DREAM BONE continues Marcus's parable-like examination of the human condition in pieces that are alternately antic, whimsical, somber and elegiac. As Al Young has said about Morton Marcus's previous prose poems, "I couldn't get enough of this delectable stuff, and there is nothing like it anywhere."

A CHRISTIAN FROM EGYPT: LIFE STORY OF A NEUROSURGEON PURSUING THE DREAMS FOR QUINTUPLE CERTIFICATIONS by RAMSIS F. GHALY, MD, FACS Pdf

This book is my life story, as a Coptic Christian, raised in Egypt. Where no one from my family has ever moved away for thousands of years through the rise and falls of ancient pharaohs and deep roots of ancient Christianity. It is also the story of my parents raising 10 children since 1953 in an environment of extreme poverty where resources and opportunities were limited with unrelenting prejudice towards Christian minorities. So, I came to the United States, the land of opportunity, and became a prominent American neurosurgeon among the only 4000 active nationwide and the only one nationally and internationally to achieve five board certifications in five acknowledged medical disciplines. I continue to practice and serve the mission set before me. My home land was once prosperous and rich in history. Over the centuries, it joined the downfall of the majority of the developing countries of the world through its economic crises and injustices to many. It was the land for the fathers of early Christians and the foundation for worldwide Christians. Now the Coptic Christians are considered a minority constituting a mere 10% of the population and are joining the exodus of ancient Christians from their native African continent. This book chronicles my journey from the land of history, the land of my birth, to the land of opportunity, America. It outlines the socioeconomic and political changes that Egypt has seen over the last century. It is my hope that others may find inspiration and understanding of my culture through reading this book. I owe it all to Christ, the Lord, my cherished parents, my family and friends, my teachers, my mentors, and especially my beloved patients.

The Pursuit of the American Dream by Jonathan A. Marcellus Pdf

This book is a story about my life which is based on the dreams of being great and successful as a young boy who afterwards came to the United States of America to pursue my dream. Upon reaching the land of the United Stated of America, the perspective of the dream was therefore changed to the American dream and I started following the American dream and halted from pursuing it for a few years to say the least. While I was on a hiatus from pursuing the dream, I felt that a major part of my life was missing because I did not fulfill the dream. Henceforth, I eventually restarted to follow the big American dream that I once had, but this time with enormous hope and stronger faith. I endured several predicaments and obstacles during my efforts to taste the American dream. But with faith, my belief in Americas exceptionalism, perseverance, hard work, diligence, efforts, prayers, and self determination, I eventually succeeded even after I failed several times in those endeavors because of hope, faith, and the mind set that I have to make it regardless of what the obstacles could be. I made it through although it is only the beginning of the attainment of my dream. The theme of the story is to convince readers that faith, perseverance, efforts, determination and dedication and passion were the key constituents to my success of attaining the American dream and it is therefore possible for anyone to achieve any dream as long as they are willing to use and apply faith, hope, diligence, hard work, efforts, and perseverance.

Crossed Bones by Carolyn Haines Pdf

In rich, atmospheric mysteries set against the backdrop of modern-day Mississippi, Carolyn Haines has given the southern belle a brilliantly hip makeover. Now Haines and her unforgettable heroine, Sarah Booth Delaney, are back with a tale about skeletons in closets--and elsewhere. Crossed Bones Sarah Booth Delaney is no ordinary P.I. A born-and-bred Mississippi belle, she struggles to hold on to her family’s plantation and keeps up a running conversation with the ghost of her great-great-grandmother’s nanny, a busybody who decks herself out in a stunning new outfit every day--and schemes to save Sarah Booth from spinsterhood. Not one to wait around for a white knight, Sarah takes on the kind of cases no one else will touch. Like trying to exonerate a man accused of murdering Sunflower County’s most popular musician. The two men met in prison: Ivory Keys, a gifted black blues pianist, and Scott Hampton, a rich white boy turned racist. Somewhere between the two men, a spark was lit. And by the time he came out of the joint, Scott Hampton had not only renounced his racist ways, he had learned to play a blues guitar that made grown women go weak in the knees. So why did Scott plunge a steel shank into his mentor’s chest? Ivory’s widow doesn’t think he did, and she’s paid Sarah Booth to prove it. No easy task, especially since the delicate racial harmony of Sunflower County is threatening to come undone under the heat of Sarah Booth’s investigation. For a woman feeling a little heat of her own--navigating between a rich, available businessman, a married lawman with a waffling heart, and the sexy bluesman who is angling to become much more than her client--this case is taking dangerous twists. A town’s slumbering passions have awakened with a jolt, a matchmaking ghost is dressed up like Jackie O, and Sarah Booth is caught between her need to know the truth and the consequences it will have on her town--and on her life. With riveting suspense and a sparkling cast of unforgettable characters, Carolyn Haines has woven a rich portrait of a part of America grappling with its past, its illusions, and its hopes. Crossed Bones is the most dazzling work yet from a uniquely gifted writer.

Bodies and Bones by Tanya L. Shields Pdf

In Bodies and Bones, Tanya Shields argues that a repeated engagement with the Caribbean’s iconic and historic touchstones offers a new sense of (inter)national belonging that brings an alternative and dynamic vision to the gendered legacy of brutality against black bodies, flesh, and bone. Using a distinctive methodology she calls "feminist rehearsal" to chart the Caribbean’s multiple and contradictory accounts of historical events, the author highlights the gendered and emergent connections between art, history, and belonging. By drawing on a significant range of genres—novels, short stories, poetry, plays, public statuary, and painting—Shields proposes innovative interpretations of the work of Grace Nichols, Pauline Melville, Fred D’Aguiar, Alejo Carpentier, Edwidge Danticat, Aimé Césaire, Marie-Hélène Cauvin, and Rose Marie Desruisseau. She shows how empathetic alliances can challenge both hierarchical institutions and regressive nationalisms and facilitate more democratic interaction.
