Discrete Choice Modelling and Air Travel Demand by Laurie A. Garrow Pdf

In recent years, airline practitioners and academics have started to explore new ways to model airline passenger demand using discrete choice methods. This book provides an introduction to discrete choice models and uses extensive examples to illustrate how these models have been used in the airline industry. These examples span network planning, revenue management, and pricing applications. Numerous examples of fundamental logit modeling concepts are covered in the text, including probability calculations, value of time calculations, elasticity calculations, nested and non-nested likelihood ratio tests, etc. The core chapters of the book are written at a level appropriate for airline practitioners and graduate students with operations research or travel demand modeling backgrounds. Given the majority of discrete choice modeling advancements in transportation evolved from urban travel demand studies, the introduction first orients readers from different backgrounds by highlighting major distinctions between aviation and urban travel demand studies. This is followed by an in-depth treatment of two of the most common discrete choice models, namely the multinomial and nested logit models. More advanced discrete choice models are covered, including mixed logit models and generalized extreme value models that belong to the generalized nested logit class and/or the network generalized extreme value class. An emphasis is placed on highlighting open research questions associated with these models that will be of particular interest to operations research students. Practical modeling issues related to data and estimation software are also addressed, and an extensive modeling exercise focused on the interpretation and application of statistical tests used to guide the selection of a preferred model specification is included; the modeling exercise uses itinerary choice data from a major airline. The text concludes with a discussion of on-going customer modeling research in aviation. Discrete Choice Modelling and Air Travel Demand is enriched by a comprehensive set of technical appendices that will be of particular interest to advanced students of discrete choice modeling theory. The appendices also include detailed proofs of the multinomial and nested logit models and derivations of measures used to represent competition among alternatives, namely correlation, direct-elasticities, and cross-elasticities.

The Vanishing of Flight MH370 by Richard Quest Pdf

CNN Aviation Correspondent Richard Quest offers a gripping and definitive account of the disappearance of Malaysian Airline Flight MH370 in March 2014. On March 8, 2014, Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared with barely a trace, carrying 239 people on board--seemingly vanishing into the dark night. The airplane's whereabouts and fate would quickly become one of the biggest aviation mysteries of our time... Richard Quest, CNN's Aviation Correspondent, was one of the leading journalists covering the story. In a coincidence, Quest had interviewed one of the two pilots a few weeks before the disappearance. It is here that he begins his gripping account of those tense weeks in March, presenting a fascinating chronicle of an international search effort, which despite years of searching and tens of millions of dollars spent has failed to find the plane. Quest dissects what happened in the hours following the plane's disappearance and chronicles the days and weeks of searching, which led to nothing but increasing despair. He takes apart the varying responses from authorities and the discrepancies in reports, the wide range of theories, the startling fact that the plane actually turned around and flew in the opposite direction, and what solutions the aviation industry must now implement to ensure it never happens again. What emerges is a riveting chronicle of a tragedy that continues to baffle everyone from aviation experts to satellite engineers to politicians--and which to this day worries the traveling public that it could happen again. Managing Customer Value by Dilip Soman,Sara N-Marandi Pdf

This book is written for students - as well as employees of organizations - who have some previous exposure to principles of marketing. Its main objectives are to introduce the key marketing principles that govern the interactions between consumers and the goods and services being offered to them, to show how these principles can be used to gain a deeper understanding of the consumer's decision-making cycle, and to apply this knowledge in developing micro-marketing tactics. In doing so, the book offers an alternative perspective to the general practice of marketing products to consumers. Instead of applying the principles of mass marketing to a general group of consumers with similar characteristics, it aims to capture the right consumer at the right time. This is achieved by gaining a deep understanding of consumers' purchasing behavior as they progress through different stages of affiliation with the product or service. These stages are simply a set of thoughts, experiences and feelings that consumers encounter when faced with a purchase decision. Therefore, the major unifying theme between all the observable consumer behaviors and marketing tactics is micro-marketing.

EV - Electric Vehicles Come Home by Dale Stubbart Pdf

In my first book on Electric Cars, I covered those which were available in the US. In my new book, I decided to cover the world. I also venture into Electric Planes and EVTOLS - Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing machines. Even though EVs are very interesting, you might get bored after the 100th or so. To relieve your boredom, I inserted stories about my visits from a couple of outer space aliens who are very interested in Electric Cars. Who says you can't mix research books with sci-fi and humor? I start with the most popular EVs. I cover many parts of the globe. And I cover lesser known Electric cars. Some places around the world don't have good roads or the roads are too crowded. There, electric motorcycles, rickshaws, and other vehicles are more popular than electric cars. And did you know that there's an electric skateboard? Electric Cars come in several models - Sedans, SUVs, Crossovers, Hatchbacks, etc. There are even little electric bubble cars. And there's a Amphibious E-Tricycle Camper. Now is a good time to get into an EV - there's availability. You'll get good range. And you'll save money on gas and maintenance. Besides, bans on ICE vehicles (internal combustion engine - petrol powered cars) are coming. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon. And supermost of all, owning an EV is cool and the wave of the future. And you want to get into the action now because you want to ride the crest of the wave. Some people are still worried about - what happens if the battery dies. I cover that. Good news - not a problem. I also cover converting your car to an EV (or rather hiring someone to do that for you) and EV Rentals. I conclude the book with what it would take to own an EV Dealership, My EV choices, and statements by World Leaders on EVs. I evaluate the more popular cars and provide a blank evaluation form so you can make your own evaluations. This book is packed with information, but I keep it light so you won't get bored. Actually, that's not true. I kept it light so that I wouldn't get bored.
