Forthcoming are volumes on pediatric interventional radiology and neurointerventional radiology. Each book is laid out in bullet point format, so that the desired information can be located quickly and easily. Interventional radiologists at all stages, from trainees through to specialists, will find this book a valuable asset for their practice. Transcatheter Embolisation and Therapy approaches the procedure in two ways . Section I systematically describes the techniques of transcatheter embolization and addresses the issues surrounding embolization procedures. Section II presents specific organ systems and pathologies that undergo embolization therapy. This atlas depicts and describes catheter-based interventions across the entire pediatric age range, from fetal life through to early adulthood, with the aim of providing an illustrated step-by-step guide that will help the reader to master these techniques and apply them in everyday practice. Clear instruction is offered on a wide range of procedures, including vascular access, fetal interventions, valve dilatation, angioplasty, stent implantation, defect closure, defect creation, valve implantation, hybrid approaches, and other miscellaneous procedures. The atlas complements the previously published handbook, Cardiac Catheterization for Congenital Heart Disease, by presenting a wealth of photographs, images, and drawings selected or designed to facilitate the planning, performance, and evaluation of diagnostic and interventional procedures in the field of congenital heart disease. It will assist in the safe, efficient performance of these procedures, in decision making, and in the recognition and treatment of complications.

Transcatheter Coil Embolization of Visceral Arterial Aneurysms by Shigeo Takebayashi,Izumi Torimoto,Kiyotaka Imoto Pdf

Advances in endovascular therapy have allowed interventional radiologists to contribute to the management of visceral arterial aneurysms for not only elective interventions but also for urgent procedures in patients presenting visceral arterial aneurysm rupture. The authors describe and illustrate both imaging diagnosis and endovascular therapy of visceral arterial aneurysm based on their experiences. Transcatheter coil embolisation can provide an alternative method of treatment for both ruptured and non-ruptured visceral arterial aneurysms excluding dissecting lesion that is treated by stent-graft. The authors performed transcatheter coil embolisation in the treatment of 20 non-ruptured visceral arterial aneurysms and 8 ruptured lesions. They have included in this book their data and the implications for treating visceral arterial aneurysms.

Handbook of Angioplasty and Stenting Procedures by Robert A. Morgan,Eric Walser Pdf

Despite the fact that Interventional Radiology is steadily moving toward a cli- cal specialty with the need for broad medical training, daily craftsmanship will always remain fundamental to what an interventional radiologist does. Without basic catheter and wire skills IR would not be what it is today. When I watch ex- rienced colleagues work I am always surprised to see that, concerning the technique and the materials, we all make the same choices. There is apparently a common IR skill, which is universal and can be learned with experience. I always see this with new IR fellows, that it takes time to step away from improvising and letting the p- cedure take the lead to logic and standardized control over a procedure. Choosing the right materials for the right job and building a level of con dence with these materials is a very important part of any IR fellowship. Why can a supervisor get a stable catheter position with a new wire in no time, whereas the fellow almost gives up? The difference is knowing your materials for this speci c indication and c- bining routine and standardized operational procedures. Hands-on workshops are always very popular at every IR meeting because one can really learn about basic skills. Lectures with the title “How I do it,” can always count on a full audience.

Mulliken and Young's Vascular Anomalies by John B. Mulliken,Patricia E. Burrows,Steven J. Fishman Pdf

The field of vascular anomalies has grown rapidly in last 25 years. Molecular genetics has led to discovery of genes that cause vascular anomalies. Interventional radiology has become a major contributor to accurate diagnosis and management of previously untreatable disorders. New pharmacologic therapies are under investigation and surgical protocols have been established. Vascular Anomalies: Hemangiomas and Malformations is a comprehensive and interdisciplinary textbook ideal for dermatologists, interventional radiologists, surgical specialists, ophthalmologists, pathologists, geneticists, pediatricians, hematologic-oncologists, and vascular biologists. With a central motif of the biologic dichotomy of vascular tumors and vascular malformations, this book is organized into chapters which address clinical presentation, diagnostic imaging, molecular genetics, pathogenesis, histopathology, and management of vascular anomalies. Generous, full-color images compliment this extensive volume written by three colleagues and their teammates from Children's Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School, with leading specialists from other centers.

Aortic Valve Transcatheter Intervention by Marco Zimarino,Ron Waksman,Ignacio J. Amat-Santos,Corrado Tamburino Pdf

Aortic Valve Transcatheter Intervention Calcific aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common heart valve anomaly, with a largely age-dependent prevalence, a calculated annual incidence rate in the range of 4-5% in general populations and up to 6% in patients aged 75 years and over. Surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) was previously the only option available to patients with symptomatic, severe aortic stenosis. After the first-in-human transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) was performed by Alain Cribier in 2002, the treatment strategy for patients with symptomatic AS has been revolutionized. Since then, TAVI has grown exponentially, as a result of accruing evidence demonstrating safety and efficacy, and reduced invasiveness compared with SAVR. TAVI devices are continuously expanding to include several valve design options. As this strategy is continuously evolving to treat younger patients and lower-risk populations, aside from the long-term durability of the valve systems, procedural safety will become the focus of newer-generation devices. This book is a practical handbook devoted to the optimization of TAVI procedures, through a focused containment of complications. Through an integrated evaluation of the clinical status, imaging techniques and laboratory findings, the authors provide readers with clear messages on preventive and therapeutic recommendations.

Shoulder Stiffness by Eiji Itoi,Guillermo Arce,Gregory I. Bain,Ronald L. Diercks,Dan Guttmann,Andreas B. Imhoff,Augustus D. Mazzocca,Hiroyuki Sugaya,Yon-Sik Yoo Pdf

This book provides an up-to-date overview of the latest evidence regarding shoulder stiffness or frozen shoulder. All aspects are covered: epidemiology, etiology, anatomy and biomechanics, clinical symptoms, histology and laboratory tests, physical examinations, imaging studies and the various conservative and surgical treatment options. The book is published in cooperation with ISAKOS and reflects the conclusions of the Consensus Meeting of the ISAKOS Upper Extremity Committee in Amsterdam in May 2014, which brought together global opinion leaders in the field. Frozen shoulder itself remains shrouded in mystery. There is ongoing uncertainty over its causation and continuing relative neglect due to the belief that it is a self-limited disease despite the evidence that most patients fail to achieve complete recovery, with many experiencing persistent pain and stiffness. Shoulder Stiffness: Current Concepts and Concerns provides an excellent summary of present knowledge regarding frozen shoulder and will be of value to all who manage the condition.
