Undisputed by Donovan Bailey Pdf

A memoir of Olympic glory, the value of mentorship and the courage to champion your own excellence, from the long-reigning world's fastest man, Canadian sprinting legend Donovan Bailey. From the lush fields of his boyhood in Jamaica, to the basketball courts of Oakville, where he came of age in one of Canada’s most thriving cultural mosaics, to his sprint toward double Olympic gold for Canada in Atlanta in 1996, Donovan Bailey got a long way on natural talent. But he also learned that in the bureaucratic world of Canadian sports, an athlete who didn't come up in the system needed to take charge of his fate if he was going to become the world’s best. As he ascended from outsider to dominant athlete, others didn’t always understand the rigour at work behind Bailey’s confident demeanour. He’d learned from watching Muhammad Ali that a champion needed to act like a champion. But media grew fixated on the sprinter’s immodesty, the likes of which they never saw from Canadian athletes, especially track athletes in the wake of the Ben Johnson doping scandal at Seoul in 1988. Bailey was having none of it, and when he called out Canada's subtle racism and contradicted the prevailing idea most Canadians had of their country, he left in his wake a media uproar and cracked wide open the nation’s moral complacency. In addition to his unforgettable 100-metre and 4x100 relay gold-medal sprints in Atlanta, Bailey's track career was a litany of records and rare accomplishments, including his audacious 1997 race in Toronto's SkyDome against American 200-metre Olympic champion Michael Johnson to determine who was really the world’s fastest man. There was no disputing the result. Bailey had been coached in success before he was seriously coached in athletics. Following the lead of his father, a machinist-turned-real estate investor, Bailey became a millionaire by the age of 21, an experience he continues to draw on as an entrepreneur and philanthropist. Frank about his dominance on the track and unapologetic for expecting as much of those around him as he expects of himself, Undisputed is an athlete's story that refuses to settle for second best.

Desire in Paul's Undisputed Epistles by Andrew Bowden Pdf

In this study, Andrew Bowden analyzes Paul's use of "desire" (ἐπιθυμέω, ἐπιθυμητής, and ἐπιθυμία) in his undisputed epistles. After introducing critical research on these lexemes, the author applies John Lyons's theory of semantic analysis to the use of ἐπιθυμέω κτλ in Roman imperial texts. Based on these observations, he makes a hypothesis concerning the common co-occurrences of "desire" in Roman imperial texts, its antonyms, the objects it longs for, and its use within metaphorical discourse. This hypothesis is then tested by looking at the use of "desire" in Dio Chrysostom, Epictetus, Lucian of Samosata, the Cynic epistles, and Second Temple Jewish texts. Andrew Bowden illustrates how, contrary to the view of many scholars, these Roman imperial authors consistently mention positive objects of "desire." He then applies these findings concerning "desire" to Paul, yielding important and sometimes unexpected discoveries. --

The Undisputed Greatest Writer of All Time by Beau Sia Pdf

"This is the greatest fucking book of poetry ever!" is how Beau would have described this book ten years ago. In truth, this collection of poems from 1997-2005 simply reflects a time when he was wrestling with the power he'd given his ego, struggling to break from the idealizing of love, and beating himself up for his shame and insecurities. He allows us into places most poets would edit out, exposing his limitations in his choices and in what's absent from each selection. Unafraid to live in fear, willing to share the empty of glory, and pushing to include the minutia as integral parts of one's process, these poems bring a mirror to his past, sans heroic declarations and beautiful decorations. Beau Sia's new collection of old work seeks to give a fuller picture for the reader who is looking for glimpses of the dark places growth begins, and who wants to feel like they are beautiful, without having to lie in the extremes of tragedy or enlightenment. Beau Sia swings gravity like a bat (aluminum, whiffle ball, and fruit). I hope to experience everything in this life, but if I leave this world before I get to hang glide the high points, it won't matter... I read Beau Sia. -Buddy Wakefield, "Live for a Living" Beau Sia mixes serious commentary, outrageous theatrics, and downright outrage into a potent, entertaining, and memorable cocktail. He is both the spoonful of sugar and the medicine, and he goes down in the most delightful way. - Taylor Mali, "Last Time As We Are” Beau Sia has forged a poetic voice unlike any other-- a 7th level hybrid of deep-sea-mind-diving and hip-hop-spelunking and time-travel-reporting that is once riveting, humbling and inspiring; a firey worship of the life you have to live. - Mindy Nettifee, "Rise of the Trust Fall”

Undisputed Champions of Europe by Steven Scragg Pdf

The Undisputed Champions of Europe is a trilogy-ending homage to the golden era of the European Cup. A place where the gods of the game battled for the biggest prize in club football; a place where the likes of Di Stefano, Eusebio, Best, Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Dalglish, Gullit and so many others became legends, as they skated across thin ice to glory, in the colours of clubs that are now considered European royalty. An entirely different beast than the Champions League, it was a competition where you had to win your domestic league title to gain entry. With no safety net of group stages, one bad night of football was enough to send you back to square one. In contrast to today's Champions League winners - whose status as Europe's best team is regularly disputed - the winners of the European Cup truly were the undisputed kings of Europe. These are the stories and glories of football's highest achievers.

Undisputed by Mark O. Hubbard Pdf

In 1966, Notre Dame played Michigan State. It was a battle between two of the best teams in college football history. The game ended in a 10-10 tie. Some believe that Notre Dame's football coach, Ara Parseghian, played for this tie. He did not. He played for the National Championship, and won it, a week later. Even after forty-five years, this one college football game played by the 1966 Notre Dame team continues to be debated amongst die-hard fans. The team and the game are still embroiled in controversy- a factor that keeps the memories of Notre Dame's 1966 season alive. On one point only is there agreement- that the Irish were named the undisputed National Champions. What more can be said about a team that allowed only 38 points to be scored against them in ten games, while punishing opponents to the tune of 369 points? As it turns out, a lot, much of it heretofore buried in the fog of the controversy over this one game. Undisputedby Mark O. Hubbard is an incredible and detailed account of Notre Dame's 1966 football season, players, coaches, and the one game that fans have discussed ever since. Hubbard points out this game's immense significance not only in the context of football history, but of American history, reminding the reader that this one game drew a television audience of 33 million-the largest TV sports audience ever-with all spectators watching not just the event itself, but the natural integration of players, black and white, playing together, a significant advancement for racial equality. Though the game steals the limelight, behind the scenes is the Notre Dame Football Team, which brought with it the traditions of fine academics, the Catholic Church, and a close-knit football family with "no breaking point". Coach Parseghian and the players from this team earned for Notre Dame a very precious gift-a National Championship. Undisputed. This is their story.

Iron Ambition by Mike Tyson,Larry Sloman Pdf

From the former heavyweight champion and New York Times–bestselling author comes a powerful look at the life and leadership lessons of Cus D’Amato, the legendary boxing trainer and Mike Tyson’s surrogate father. "[Iron Ambition] spells out D'Amato's techniques for building a champion from scratch." – Wall Street Journal When Cus D’Amato first saw thirteen-year-old Mike Tyson spar in the ring, he proclaimed, “That’s the heavyweight champion of the world.” D’Amato, who had previously managed the careers of world champions Floyd Patterson and José Torres, would go on to train the young Tyson and raise him as a son. D'Amato died a year before Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in history. In Tyson’s bestselling memoir Undisputed Truth, he recounted the role D’Amato played in his formative years, adopting him at age sixteen after his mother died and shaping him both physically and mentally after Tyson had spent years living in fear and poverty. In Iron Ambition, Tyson elaborates on the life lessons that D’Amato passed down to him, and reflects on how the trainer’s words of wisdom continue to resonate with him outside the ring. The book also chronicles Cus’s courageous fight against the mobsters who controlled boxing, revealing more than we’ve ever known about this singular cultural figure.

FreeDarko Presents: The Undisputed Guide to Pro Basketball History by Bethlehem Shoals,Jacob Weinstein Pdf

The history of basketball has always belonged to champions like the Celtics, the Lakers, and the Bulls. Yet the game's history cuts much deeper than that. The bottom line, the record books and retired jerseys, can never fully do justice to this wild, chaotic, and energetic game. In between the championships, there's the sight of Earl Monroe, spinning and cajoling his way to every corner of the court; or Allen Iverson, driving headlong into players twice his size. The real history of the game is not its championships, which are indisputable, but the personalities of its heroes, which are, at least, undisputed. It's in the larger-than-life pathos of Wilt, the secret ties that bind Larry Bird to the flashy ABA, and Michael Jordan when he flew a little too high. From the prehistoric teachings of Dr. James Naismith to pioneering superstars such as LeBron James and Kevin Durant, you'll never see roundball the same way again.
