Śrī Viṭṭhala Giridhāri Parabrahmaṇe Namaḥ by Bhakti Marga Publications Pdf

In the past, many sādhanas were needed to purify the human mind, body and heart: intense study of the Vedas, extreme austerities, and long periods of meditative absorption. Fortunately for us today, it’s different: the easiest and quickest way to purify ourselves is to chant the Name of God given by the satguru. Simply chanting the Divine Name is enough to end all our suffering. On 8 April, 2020, an extraordinary event took place. On this day, Paramahamsa Vishwananda received the mantra, śrī viṭṭhala giridhāri parabrahmaṇe namaḥ, as it was revealed by Bhagavān Himself. This mantra has now become the mūla-mantra, the main mantra, of the Hari Bhakta Sampradāya. For everyone (whether a devotee or follower or simply curious about the bhakti path) who wants to deepen their spiritual experience, this booklet will help provide a more profound understanding about the nature of this Divine Name in the form of this extraordinary mantra. And now, since we have been graced to receive this Name of Śrī Hari, then the only thing that is needed is our willingness to make it part of our lives, and to chant it throughout our day—no matter what we’re doing—with love.

Śāṇḍilya-bhakti-sūtra by Paramahamsa Vishwananda Pdf

The Śāṇḍilya-bhakti-sūtra, compiled by Sage Śāṇḍilya, is an essential text in the bhakti tradition and Vaiṣṇavism at large. Its ontological exploration of bhakti helps the seeker map out the process by which bhakti emerges, grows and, ultimately, leads one to the absolute peak of spiritual experience. Given Sage Śāṇḍilya’s more pragmatic, philosophical leanings, Paramahamsa Vishwananda’s commentaries serve as a perfect balancing act. Focusing on the experiential and emotional dimensions of the sūtras, what we are left with is an impeccable combination of intellectual and experiential nourishment. The transcendent world of the Lord, of true love, and bliss is impossible for the mind to fully grasp, but this book aims to serve as a compass pointing in its direction. The journey will always be unique and ours to undertake, but the guidance and framework gifted to us by the joint efforts of Sage Śāṇḍilya and Paramahamsa Vishwananda will surely help make it as smooth a ride as it could ever possibly be.

Bhagavad Gita Essentials by Paramahamsa Vishwananda Pdf

The Bhagavad Gītā recounts a profound dialogue between Arjuna, a conflicted warrior, and his humble charioteer, who is in fact the Lord Himself. The message Kṛṣṇa delivered on a battlefield more than 5000 years ago is just as relevant today because it awakens the soul to mankind’s true nature and reason for being. His instructions have stood the test of time and provide the knowledge to help us triumph over the obstacles we face in our lives. Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishwananda’s commentary brings this timeless discourse to life, unravelling it and delivering it straight to the heart of the reader. It is rare when a book has the potential to become a lifelong companion for spiritual seekers, yet the Bhagavad Gītā Essentials is designed to be just that: an essential part of your life. Small enough to carry with you wherever you go, yet profound enough to carry you all the way to God; succinct enough to read in a matter of hours, yet deep enough to contemplate for decades to come.

The God Market by Meera Nanda Pdf

Conventional wisdom says that integration into the global marketplace tends to weaken the power of traditional faith in developing countries. But, as Meera Nanda argues in this path-breaking book, this is hardly the case in today’s India. Against expectations of growing secularism, India has instead seen a remarkable intertwining of Hinduism and neoliberal ideology, spurred on by a growing capitalist class. It is this “State-Temple-Corporate Complex,” she claims, that now wields decisive political and economic power, and provides ideological cover for the dismantling of the Nehru-era state-dominated economy. According to this new logic, India’s rapid economic growth is attributable to a special “Hindu mind,” and it is what separates the nation’s Hindu population from Muslims and others deemed to be “anti-modern.” As a result, Hindu institutions are replacing public ones, and the Hindu “revival” itself has become big business, a major source of capital accumulation. Nanda explores the roots of this development and its possible future, as well as the struggle for secularism and socialism in the world’s second-most populous country.

The Spiritual Heritage of India by Swami Prabhavananda Pdf

This book, first published in 1962, is an analysis of the history of the philosophy of a country that has never distinguished philosophy from religion. Indian philosophy is not merely metaphysical speculation, but has its foundation in immediate perception. This insistence upon immediate perception rather than abstract reasoning is what distinguishes the Indian philosophy of religion from philosophy as Western nations know it.

Lives of Indian Images by Richard H. Davis Pdf

For many centuries, Hindus have taken it for granted that the religious images they place in temples and home shrines for purposes of worship are alive. Hindu priests bring them to life through a complex ritual "establishment" that invokes the god or goddess into material support. Priests and devotees then maintain the enlivened image as a divine person through ongoing liturgical activity: they must awaken it in the morning, bathe it, dress it, feed it, entertain it, praise it, and eventually put it to bed at night. In this linked series of case studies of Hindu religious objects, Richard Davis argues that in some sense these believers are correct: through ongoing interactions with humans, religious objects are brought to life. Davis draws largely on reader-response literary theory and anthropological approaches to the study of objects in society in order to trace the biographies of Indian religious images over many centuries. He shows that Hindu priests and worshipers are not the only ones to enliven images. Bringing with them differing religious assumptions, political agendas, and economic motivations, others may animate the very same objects as icons of sovereignty, as polytheistic "idols," as "devils," as potentially lucrative commodities, as objects of sculptural art, or as symbols for a whole range of new meanings never foreseen by the images' makers or original worshipers.

A Prehistory of Hinduism by Manu V. Devadevan Pdf

This book is a pioneering attempt to understand the prehistory of Hinduism in South Asia. Exploring religious processes in the Deccan region between the eleventh and the nineteenth century with class relations as its point of focus, it throws new light on the making of religious communities, monastic institutions, legends, lineages, and the ethics that governed them. In the light of this prehistory, a compelling framework is suggested for a revision of existing perspectives on the making of Hinduism in the nineteenth and the twentieth century.

Rajadharma in Mahabharata by Priyanka Pandey Pdf

About The Book The idea of politics hardly finds an expression elsewhere as clearly as in Mahābhārata. This work thus investigates the political thought explicit in Śānti-Parva and emphasizes that Mahābhārata is a text in the study of politics, apart from the perception of it being a great epic and a text of high literary value. Whatever be the notion of politics we contemplate upon, it finds an articulation in Mahābhārata. As the Greek tradition of thinking is the base of Western politics, Śānti-Parva of Mahābhārata represents the Indian notion of political thinking, though there remain many similarities and dissimilarities between the two systems. This volume navigates one to how to read Mahābhārata as a political text; the idea of political thoughts, the constituting principles of politics and the political institutions in Śānti-Parva; and the relevance of these political thoughts in modern time. Topics such as daṇḍanīti, origin of state, the seven elements of state, functions of state, types of state, kinship, judiciary and administration are discussed in detail, among many other issues of political importance. The book collects, analyses and examines the internal evidences from Śānti-Parva and also from other parvans of Mahābhārata to reach a decisive conclusion, making the work a composite result of textual analysis, related literature and subjective contemplation. It clearly shows that the idea of politics is not separated from the idea of ethics. Rather they are intertwined. About the Author Dr Priyanka Pandey is an upcoming Sanskrit scholar with a penchant for serious researches on Indian classics. She got her PhD for the thesis, “Perspectives of Rājadharma in Mahābhārata: A Critical Analysis” from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. This book Rājadharma in Mahābhārata with Special Reference to Śānti-Parva is an offshoot of her research project. Dr Pandey has presented articles in many national and international seminars and has ten articles published in journals/books of repute to her credit.

Zorba the Buddha by Hugh B. Urban Pdf

Zorba the Buddha is the first comprehensive study of the life, teachings, and following of the controversial Indian guru known in his youth as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and in his later years as Osho (1931–1990). Most Americans today remember him only as the “sex guru” and the “Rolls Royce guru,” who built a hugely successful but scandal-ridden utopian community in central Oregon during the 1980s. Yet Osho was arguably the first truly global guru of the twentieth century, creating a large transnational movement that traced a complex global circuit from post-Independence India of the 1960s to Reagan’s America of the 1980s and back to a developing new India in the 1990s. The Osho movement embodies some of the most important economic and spiritual currents of the past forty years, emerging and adapting within an increasingly interconnected and conflicted late-capitalist world order. Based on extensive ethnographic and archival research, Hugh Urban has created a rich and powerful narrative that is a must-read for anyone interested in religion and globalization.
