Advances in Inequalities for Series by Sever Silvestru Dragomir,Anthony Sofo Pdf
This research monograph, deals with identities and inequalities relating to series and their application. This is the first volume of research monographs on advances in inequalities for series. All of the papers in this volume have been fully peer reviewed. Some papers in this volume appear in print for the first time, detailing many technical results and some other papers offer a review of a number of recently published results. The papers appear in author alphabetical order and not in mathematics subject classification. There are fifteen diverse papers in this volume each with its own speciality. An important issue in many applications of Probability Theory is finding an approximate measure of distance, or discrimination, between two probability distributions. A number of divergence measures for this purpose have been proposed.
This book consists of twenty-nine articles contributed by participants of an International Conference in Algebraic Topology held in July 1991 in Oaxtepec, Mexico. In addition to papers on current research, there are several surveys and expositions on the work of Mark Mahowald, whose sixtieth birthday was celebrated during the conference. The conference was truly international, with over 130 mathematicians from fifteen countries. It ended with a spectacular total eclipse of the sun, a photograph of which appears as the frontispiece. The papers range over much of algebraic topology and cross over into related areas, such as $K$-theory, representation theory, and Lie groups. Also included is a chart of the Adams spectral sequence and a bibliography of Mahowald's publications.
Banach Spaces by Bor-Luh Lin,William B. Johnson Pdf
This volume contains the proceedings of the International Workshop on Banach Space Theory, held at the Universidad de Los Andes in Merida, Venezuela in January 1992. These refereed papers contain the newest results in Banach space theory, real or complex function spaces, and nonlinear functional analysis. There are several excellent survey papers, including ones on homogeneous Banach spaces and applications of probability inequalities, in addition to an important research paper on the distortion problem. This volume is notable for the breadth of the mathematics presented.
Recent Advances in Real Algebraic Geometry and Quadratic Forms by Bill Jacob,Tsit-Yuen Lam Pdf
The papers in this volume grew out of a year-long program in ``Real Algebraic Geometry and Quadratic Forms'', held at the University of California at Berkeley during the 1990-1991 academic year. This valuable collection of research articles by top workers serves as a record of current developments in these areas and as a tribute to the fruitful interaction between them. Students and researchers alike will find this book a useful reference, with articles ranging from the technical to the expository. Also included are summaries of the current developments in several sub-disciplines and indications of new research directions.

A Manual for Translators of Mathematical Russian by Sydney Henry Gould Pdf
This manual is intended for mathematicians who are fairly well acquainted with Russian and have a need to translate mathematical materials into English. Both of the editors worked extensively with such translations and, in the process of their work, kept records of problems, both grammatical and stylistic, that commonly turned up. The main part of the booklet presents typical examples: first the Russian text is given, then the faulty translation, an acceptable translation, and usually some comments. Although such a manual cannot be exhaustive, it does deal with many common mistakes and misconceptions. The examples are taken from the mathematical literature, making the manual of particular interest to mathematicians; however, it should also be useful to physicists, chemists, engineers, and anyone else concerned with the translation of scientific Russian into English.

Mathematics of Computation 1943-1993: A Half-Century of Computational Mathematics by Walter Gautschi Pdf
Proceedings of an International Conference held in Vancouver, B.C., August 1993, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the journal Mathematics of Computation. It consisted of a Symposium on Numerical Analysis and a Minisymposium of Computational Number Theory. This proceedings contains 14 invited papers, including two not presented at the conference--an historical essay on integer factorization, and a paper on componentwise perturbation bounds in linear algebra. The invited papers present surveys on the various subdisciplines covered by Mathematics of Computation, in a historical perspective and in a language accessible to a wide audience. The 46 contributed papers address contemporary specialized work. Annotation copyright by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
The Madison Symposium on Complex Analysis by Alexander Nagel,Edgar Lee Stout Pdf
This volume contains the proceedings of a Symposium on Complex Analysis, held at the University of Wisconsin at Madison in June 1991 on the occasion of the retirement of Walter Rudin. During the week of the conference, a group of about two hundred mathematicians from many nations gathered to discuss recent developments in complex analysis and to celebrate Rudin's long and productive career. Among the main subjects covered are applications of complex analysis to operator theory, polynomial convexity, holomorphic mappings, boundary behaviour of holomorphic functions, function theory on the unit disk and ball, and some aspects of the theory of partial differential equations related to complex analysis. Containing papers by some of the world's leading experts in these subjects, this book reports on current directions in complex analysis and presents an excellent mixture of the analytic and geometric aspects of the theory.
