Advances in Chemistry Research by James C. Taylor Pdf

In this compilation, the authors begin by highlighting the recent developments in asymmetric 1,4- and 1,2- additions to α, β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds. The recent finding of Cu (I)-catalyzed asymmetric 1,2-addition of Grignard reagents to α, β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, as well as aromatic ketones, has categorically revolutionized catalytic asymmetric reactions. This compilation also aims to use the well-known coordination preference of zinc in phthalocyanine and porphyrin ligands in correlation with supramolecular systems. The light-absorption process in dye-sensitized solar cells is studied using the time-dependent density functional theory. In recent years, a series of investigations on detonation wave formation in acetylene have been published. In these studies, it was shown that the formation of detonation proceeds entirely due to the energy released during the condensation of carbon nanoparticles during the growth of poly-aromatic hydrocarbons. The results of these studies are summarized and practical applications are discussed. The authors discuss aromatic amines, derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons containing an amino group/an amine group/nitrogen atom in their structures. These compounds represent one of the most important classes of industrial and environmental chemicals. Three groups have been studied: monocyclic, polycyclic, and heterocyclic aromatic amines, which are used as intermediates in azo dye manufacturing, pigments, drugs, antibiotics, antidepressants, pesticides, and other industrial products. In the closing study, the GC-MS/MS method has been developed for the determination and quantification of 35 multiclass pesticide residues in chili samples. Pesticides were selected from different families including organochlorines, organophosphorus, carbamates, pyrethroids, triazines, triazoles, and pyrazoles. The QuEChERS-dSPE method was used for the extraction of pesticide residue.

Lignin and Lignans by Cyril Heitner,Don Dimmel,John Schmidt Pdf

Over the past four decades, there has been immense progress in every area of lignin science, ranging from the enzymology of lignin biodegradation, to the delignification of wood fiber during pulping and bleaching, to advances in spectroscopy. Lignin and Lignans: Advances in Chemistry captures the developments that have been achieved by world-class scientists in the most critical aspects of this burgeoning field. Tools for the characterization of lignin and lignans After an overview of the topic, the book discusses the significance and comparative performances of the most commonly used chemical degradation methods and presents lignin structural information based on the use of these methods. Next, the book explores spectroscopic methods, including UV-visible absorption, fluorescence, Raman, infra red (IR), near-infrared (NIR), nuclear magenetic resonance (NMR), and heteronuclear NMR spectroscopy. It then compares the results of studies of lignin in situ with studies of isolated lignins. Predicting reactivity The authors discuss polymer properties related to thermal stability and molecular motion of lignin in the solid state. They describe applications of electronic structure calculations to the chemistry of lignin, and they explore lignin reactions that occur during the chemical pulping of wood by soda, kraft, AQ, and polysulfide processes. Chemistry associated with industrial processes The book describes chemical pulp bleaching, oxidative and reductive lignin-retaining bleaching, and lignin biodegradation. It also examines the application of microorganisms and the enzymes they produce in the manufacturing of chemical and mechanical pulp. The book closes with chapters on photodegradation and chromophore formation and the pharmacological properties of lignans. Highlighting significant developments on selected topics, this essential reference for those in industry and academia is designed to fuel further research and discovery in this specialized area, especially in the emerging field of biorefining.

Advances in Chemical Propulsion by Gabriel D. Roy Pdf

Complex, vast, and multidisciplinary, chemical propulsion has been the subject of extensive investigation over the past few decades. Under the leadership of Gabriel Roy, this has been particularly true at the Office of Naval Research (ONR), where his team has focused on the three primary goals of combustion research: improving the efficiency, increasing the range and speed, and reducing the emissions and signatures of combustion systems. Advances in Chemical Propulsion: Science to Technology reports on the progress achieved by the outstanding team of scientists and engineers participating in the ONR Propulsion Program. Its chapters, each written by the scientists who performed the research, cover all aspects of the combustion process, from chemical synthesis to reaction pathways of the fuel, from combustor performance to the reduction of emissions, from the sooting problem to thrust vectoring, and from diagnostics to control. They discuss the relevant issues, describe the approach used and the results obtained, and show how the findings can be extended to practical applications. Richly illustrated and carefully edited for clarity, uniformity, and readability, Advances in Chemical Propulsion offers a comprehensive survey of the field, from pre- to post-combustion. It suggests directions for new research efforts and reflects the state-of-the-art technologies and issues that have a direct impact on combustion systems, both present and future.
