Investment Performance Measurement by Bruce J. Feibel Pdf

Many investment books include a chapter or two on investment performance measurement or focus on a single aspect, but only one book addresses the breadth of the field. Investment Performance Measurement is a comprehensive guide that covers the subjects of performance and risk calculation, attribution, presentation, and interpretation. This information-packed book covers a wide range of related topics, including calculation of the returns earned by portfolios; measurement of the risks taken to earn these returns; measurement of the risk and return efficiency of the portfolio and other indicators of manager skill; and much more. By reviewing both the concepts of performance measurement and examples of how they are used, readers will gain the insight necessary to understand and evaluate the management of investment funds. Investment Performance Measurement makes extensive use of fully worked examples that supplement formulas and is a perfect companion to professional courses and seminars for analysts. Bruce J. Feibel, CFA, is Product Manager at Eagle Investment Systems, an investment management software provider located in Newton, Massachusetts. He is responsible for overseeing the development of Eagle's investment performance measurement, attribution, and AIMR/GIPS compliance software. Prior to joining Eagle, Mr. Feibel was a principal at State Street Global Advisors. He earned his BS in accounting from the University of Florida.

Great Revenue Robbery by Richard Swift Pdf

Any attempt to restore responsible environmental policies, revive and expand our social programs, rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, and boost our flagging economy will be inadequate unless we also address the need to increase governments’ fiscal capacity. The tax system can also play a key role in closing the gap between rich and poor—a gap that is undermining the health of our economy and threatening damage to our democracy. Until recently, many progressive groups, including progressive political parties, have shied away from advocating for tax fairness and tax reform, fearing that the issue is political dynamite. Right wingers have encountered little opposition to their calls for deep tax cuts, especially for the rich and for corporations. But the tide is turning. Public opinion polls tell us that faced with growing inequality and cutbacks to government programs, Canadians now strongly support tax fairness, including higher taxes on the rich and on corporations. The Great Revenue Robbery is a collective effort to stimulate much-needed discussion about how tax policy can help rebuild our social programs, reduce the gap between rich and poor, restore environmental responsibility, and revitalize our country's democracy.

Making Tax Sense by M. Kevin McGee Pdf

Our tax system is a mess. And the reason for that mess is, our tax system is incoherent. A well-designed tax system is like a good jigsaw puzzle: all the pieces fit together snugly, so when the whole thing is fully assembled, it forms a coherent picture. But our current tax system is disjointed, with parts that don't logically fit together. That results in inconsistencies, complexity, loopholes, and distorted incentives. We need a tax system that make sense. As this book shows however, making a traditional income tax coherent is an impossible goal. But coherence is achievable if we adjust our target, and complete the switch to a consumed-income tax -- a system that taxes all income, not when it is earned, but when that income is consumed. The move towards a consumed-income tax was begun decades ago, when we first adopted IRAs and other tax-deferred savings accounts. We just needed to complete the evolution. The book explores a variety of tax issues -- among them savings, small businesses, owner-occupied houses, and corporations -- and develops seven groups of recommended changes. These changes would result in a tax system that would be pro-growth, by eliminating the existing disincentives to saving and investment. But the tax system would also remain progressive, with the wealthy taxed as much as and perhaps even more than currently. That combination could make the recommended changes attractive to members of both parties, and might bring to a close the political seesaw in tax policy that we've experienced over that last several decades.
