Ministerial Ethics in the 21St Century by Antwon C. Lewis PhD Pdf

What are Christian ethics? A Christian’s ethics should originate within the boundaries of Christianity, and likewise, the sole basis for ethical practices and behaviors should be built upon the theological threshold of God, the Lordship of Christ his Son, and the hope of glory in habituating the new kingdom. Ministerial Ethics in the 21st Century answers fundamental questions about Christian ethics, explaining what it means to be ethical in ministry. Author Antwon C. Lewis also helps us understand what constitutes a healthy character and what role discernment plays in various ethical situations. Christian leaders will especially benefit from this study, as they can have their moral principles be influenced by scriptural standards—and not determine right or wrong based on their own value system. A crisis in today’s society does indeed exist—and our present world is challenged with a need for ministerial ethics. Therefore, thorough research and investigation are needed, and Ministerial Ethics in the 21st Century will help ameliorate continued hypocrisy and poor ministerial integrity in the church.

The Ten Commandments by Mark Rooker Pdf

In this new volume from the New American Commentary Studies in Bible & Theology series, Mark Rooker discusses one by one the language of each of the Ten Commandments and its complete meaning in the ancient context. Adding a depth of understanding that can’t be obtained by looking only at the commandment itself, he shows how each commandment echoes elsewhere in the Old Testament, how it was violated in Israel’s history, and how it surfaces again in the New Testament. In conclusion, Rooker includes an extended section on the theological significance of each commandment and its contemporary implications.

Theological Violence in the 21st Century by Scott T. Kelso Pdf

YOU HOLD IN YOUR HAND an analysis of two central truths. First, the betrayal of theological education in America leaving the vast majority of clergy bereft of the supernatural element in the Bible and in life. Upon entering active ministry in the local church, too many clergy are ill-prepared to meet the challenges of modern ministry, lacking very little power or confidence in the authority of the Bible to meet basic human needs. Secondly, having been absent in the most topsy-turvy period of the twentieth century, the 1960s Church all but caved in to the '60s revolution, changing America for generations to come. We are still seeing fruit from that seed sown from the sexual revolution, to the presentday political turmoil in government and in the streets, to the call of Socialism to govern our lives. It's all there in embryo in the 1960s. This book analyzes a path forward from the '60s chaos to a clear message of repentance while turning to the supernatural power of God as we enter a last-days' scenario. Anyone wondering why the Church has wobbled on the most important social issues of the day when the Bible is crystal clear on many of them will come away with a new perspective of understanding and a clear vision of how the individual Christian can make a real difference in the spiritual landscape of America. Come join the new revolution!

Standing Upright Here: Global Ethics for the 21st Century by Gwen S Francis Pdf

I had been a volunteer teacher for years 7-8 in the New Zealand public school system of 'Bible in School', but there was a move, as our country became more secular and multicultural, to eliminate Christian teaching from our schools. I had concentrated on the wisdom literature and parables of the Bible and applied it to the everyday life of my students - basically, situation ethics with the Christian Bible, as well as reason as the authority. On going back to university for more academic qualifications in this field, I discovered that there was no likelihood of any ethical system based on the teachings of any particular religion being universally accepted, so I concentrated on finding ethical principles that were acceptable to the main religions and used them as the basis for consistent ethical reasoning in a multi-cultural society. My book examines these ethical principles and applies them to everyday situations. It starts with a short biography - an examination of my own background and my qualifications for writing such a book.

Bridging Scripture and Moral Theology by Michael B. Cover,John Thiede,Joshua Ezra Burns Pdf

This book comprises essays honoring the life and work of Yiu Sing Lúcás Chan, S.J., who died unexpectedly on May 19, 2015, at the end of his first year as a member of the faculty in the Department of Theology at Marquette University. The editors intend to commemorate Chan’s brief but productive career by furthering the critical conversations he started. The essays included thus touch on aspects of the brilliant young Jesuit’s wide-ranging work in the fields of scriptural research, moral theology, and systematic theology. Each essay either engages Chan’s scholarship directly or seeks to advance his design to bridge the disciplinary gaps between scriptural research and constructive theology. This book includes contributions by noted Roman Catholic theologians James F. Keenan, S.J., Bryan N. Massingale, and John R. Donohue, S.J., as well as two original poems by his Marquette colleagues dedicated to Lúcás.

Public Theology for the 21st Century by Duncan B. Forrester,William Storrar,Andrew Morton Pdf

The book is a unique stocktaking, by a leading international group of theologians, social scientists and other scholars, on issues facing public theology at the beginning of the 21st century. It combines retrospect and prospect, in that it reflects on the issues and approaches that have characterized public theology in the 20th century, especially its latter half, and attempts to anticipate those which will or should come to the fore in the 21st century, seeking to discern continuities and changes. Three opening chapters deal with the overall theme of public or political theology, with Jurgen Moltmann giving a critical historical account from the Second World War onwards, Raymond Plant relating such theology to cultural pluralism, and Andrew Morton illustrating it from the work of Duncan Forrester. These are followed by pairs of contributions relating public theology to more specific topicsr: History; Technology and Creation; Globalization; Spirituality; Punishment and Forgiveness; Medical Ethics; Tolerance and Human Rights; Social Exclusion and Equality.

Scripture and Ethics by Jeffrey Siker Pdf

How should the Bible be used in Christian ethics? Although this question has been addressed many times, little attention has gone to how the Bible actually has functioned in constructing theological ethics. In this book, Siker describes and analyzes the Bible's various uses in the theology and ethics of eight of the twentieth century's most important and influential Christian theologians: Reinhold Niebuhr, H. Richard Niebuhr, Bernhard Haring, Paul Ramsey, Stanley Hauerwas, Gustavo Gutierrez, James Cone, and Rosemary Radford Ruether. Of each author Siker asks five related questions: which biblical texts does the author in fact use; in what ways are the texts used; how does the author envision the authority of the Bible; what kind of hermeneutic does the author employ; and what has each author's approach to the Bible yielded in terms of Christian ethics? Siker ends each chapter with a critical evaluation of the various problems and prospects for the author's use of Scripture, and concludes the study with a comparison and contrast of the authors' respective appropriations of the Sermon on the Mount.

Original Christian Ethics Today by David W. T. Brattston Pdf

This book is a collection drawn from over three hundred and ninety of my magazine and website articles synthesizing early and modern Christianity, extracted from writings by or about Christians who flourished prior to the Decian Persecution and mass apostasy of AD 249-251. The subject matter is New Testament and other Christian statements on ethics before AD 250, and their applicability to the twenty-first century. Some of these articles have been published more than once, by more than one Christian communion, and in more than one country. They vary in length from a few hundred words to over four thousand. This book does not discuss moral theories or frameworks, but presents concrete practice of specific principles, commandments, and prohibitions.

Christian Thought in the Twenty-First Century by Douglas H. Shantz,Tinu Ruparell Pdf

In this volume some of the outstanding Christian scholars of our day reflect on how their minds have changed, how their academic fields have changed over the course of their careers, and the pressing issues that Christian scholars will need to address in the twenty-first century. This volume offers an accessible portrait of key trends in the world of Christian scholarship today. Christian Thought in the Twenty-First Century features scholars from Great Britain, Canada, the United States, and Switzerland. The contributors represent a wide variety of academic backgrounds--from biblical studies to theology, to religious studies, to history, English literature, philosophy, law, and ethics. This book offers a personal glimpse of Christian scholars in a self-reflective mode, capturing their honest reflections on the changing state of the academy and on changes in their own minds and outlooks. The breadth and depth of insight afforded by these contributions provide rich soil for a reader's own reflections, and an agenda that will occupy Christian thinkers well into the twenty-first century.
