The Bigfoot Book by Nick Redfern Pdf

Does a hulking, hairy, 800-pound, nine-foot-tall, elusive primate roam the woods and forests throughout North America—and the world? What should we make of the grainy videos and photos and the thousands of eyewitness reports? Audio-recordings exist purporting to be the creatures’ eerie chatter and bone-chilling screaming. Whether called Sasquatch, Yeti, Bigfoot, or something else, bipedal primates appear in folklore, legends, and eyewitness accounts in every state of the union and many places around the world. The fascination with the man-beast is stronger than ever in today’s pop culture. Exploring the history, movies, and literature, the conspiracy theorizing, and the world of the supernatural, The Encyclopedia of Sasquatch, Yeti and Cryptid Primates is a comprehensive resource to the man-beast. With nearly 200 entries and 120 photographs, drawings, and illustrations, it is the definitive guide to understanding, hunting, and avoiding the brute, as well as discovering the facts behind the sightings and horrifying tales. It covers 400 years of folklore, mythology, history, and pop culture, including Native American lore, the “wild men” reports in the pages of 19th century-era American newspapers, Florida's Myakka Skunk Ape, Australia's Yowie, China's Yeren, Himalayas’ Yeti, Russian expeditions, Harry and the Hendersons, Exists and the countless movies titled Bigfoot, as well as specials on the television shows Animal Planet, Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel, scientific reports and findings, and much, much more. Various documentaries and reality television shows have all superficially tackled the subject, but Nick Redfern presents a truly encyclopedic look at cryptid primates. It is a richly researched reference, overflowing with fascinating information to make readers think—and reconsider their next camping trip.

The Pacific Region by Jan Goggans,Aaron DiFranco Pdf

Robert Penn Warren once wrote West is where we all plan to go some day, and indeed, images of the westernmost United States provide a mythic horizon to American cultural landscape. While the five states (California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawai'i) which touch Pacific waters do share commonalities within the history of westward expansion, the peoples who settled the region—and the indigenous peoples they encountered—have created spheres of culture that defy simple categorization. This wide-ranging reference volume explores the marvelously eclectic cultures that define the Pacific region. From the music and fashion of the Pacific northwest to the film industry and surfing subcultures of southern California, from the vast expanses of the Alaskan wilderness to the schisms between native and tourist culture in Hawa'ii, this unprecedented reference provides a detailed and fascinating look at American regionalism along the Pacific Rim. The Greenwood Encyclopedia of American Regional Cultures is the first rigorous reference collection on the many ways in which American identity has been defined by its regions and its people. Each of its eight regional volumes presents thoroughly researched narrative chapters on Architecture; Art; Ecology & Environment; Ethnicity; Fashion; Film & Theater; Folklore; Food; Language; Literature; Music; Religion; and Sports & Recreation. Each book also includes a volume-specific introduction, as well as a series foreword by noted regional scholar and former National Endowment for the Humanities Chairman William Ferris, who served as consulting editor for this encyclopedia.

The Plains Sioux and U.S. Colonialism from Lewis and Clark to Wounded Knee by Jeffrey Ostler Pdf

This volume, first published in 2004, presents an overview of the history of the Plains Sioux as they became increasingly subject to the power of the United States in the 1800s. Many aspects of this story - the Oregon Trail, military clashes, the deaths of Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull, and the Ghost Dance - are well-known. Besides providing fresh insights into familiar events, the book offers an in-depth look at many lesser-known facets of Sioux history and culture. Drawing on theories of colonialism, the book shows how the Sioux creatively responded to the challenges of US expansion and domination, while at the same time revealing how US power increasingly limited the autonomy of Sioux communities as the century came to a close. The concluding chapters of the book offer a compelling reinterpretation of the events that led to the Wounded Knee massacre of December 29, 1890.

The Voice of Revenge by Mollin Muzuva Pdf

This book is about Methuselah Tyker, who was born in Serowe village, which is about 250 kilometers from Gaborone in Botswana. Born on the seventeenth of July 1939, he was an only child. His grandparents brought him up because he became an orphan at twelve years old. Methuselah grew up as an orphan but was determined to seek revenge. Chief Muyabwo gave his parents a death sentence after they had been accused of bewitching one of the villager’s daughters, Sarah. The accusations were unjustified and could not be conclusive. Chief Muyabwo ruled Serowe village for fifty years and was well-known for his callousness. Pitiless as he was, he would not try to rationalize complaints from villagers. He took any issues regarding witchcraft very seriously. Villagers were put to task when there were any reports involving witchcraft. Also, he had a weakness of taking other people’s wives. Anyone who knew Chief Muyabwo was aware of his cruelty and poor treatment of villagers. He was quite a powerful person with his own police, and he had the right to make his own judgments about villagers. He had been given the powers by the government. He was paid by the government for doing the job, but the government did not realize that he had taken the law into his hands. Methuselah believed in getting revenge for what had happened to his parents. It took him a long time, but in the end he did it.
