Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. In Bird Land (Classic Reprint) by Leander S. Keyser Pdf

Excerpt from In Bird Land Looking out of my study window one fair spring morning, I noticed a friend - a professional man - walking along the street, evidently taking his "constitutional." Having reached the end of the brick pavement, he paused, glanced around a moment undecidedly, and then, instead of walking out into the beckoning fields and woods, turned down another street which led into a thickly populated part of the city. Surely, I mused, we are not all cast in the same mould. While he carefully avoided going beyond the suburbs and the beaten paths, as if afraid he might soil his polished shoes, I should have plunged boldly into the country, "across" lots, to find some sequestered nook or grass-grown by-way, "far from human neighborhood," to hold undisturbed converse with Nature. Adventures in Bird-Land (Classic Reprint) by Oliver Gregory Pike Pdf

Excerpt from Adventures in Bird-Land Last summer, on visiting the Orkney Islands, I found that a certain collector had been there two years previously and had actually travelled under my name. This collector knew well that I was staying in the heart of Wales for several weeks. He was well received by certain people, and then, when he had used my name as a protector of birds, to find out the haunts of the rarest species, he decamped with a big haul of clutches. I have no actual proof as to who this person was, but he was described to me as a tall man, with fair, curly hair, who usually wore military puttees. It is needless to say that such underhand action is calculated to cause me serious embarrassment in my work. I mention this to warn gentlemen that they should be careful in giving away the haunts of rare birds to strangers. The conduct I have described is certainly the meanest thing that I have ever known a collector to do, being altogether unworthy of one who calls himself an ornithologist. The Pimlico Dictionary Of Classical Mythologies by Arthur Cotterall Pdf

The Pimlico Dictionary of Classical Mythologies is a unique work of reference which breaks new ground by treating for the first time the classical mythologies of the Old World as a whole. Never before have the mythologies of Greece, Rome, Persia, India and China been encompassed in a single volume, despite the fact that the first four have much in common through their Indo-European ancestry. Arthur Cotterell shows how much more can be understood about 'classical mythology' by comparison and contrast of its five major traditions. Another key aspect of The Pimlico Dictionary of Classical Mythologies is that the myths are not simply recounted; their least accessible features are helpfully interpreted by reference to the culture in which they arose. Thus, for example, the profound influence of the Iranian prophet Zoroaster's thinking on Persian mythology is made clear, along with the far-reaching consequences its adoption would later have for Christian thought. The Pimlico Dictionary of Classical Mythologies also includes over two hundred original illustrations, which have been specially commissioned in order to reveal how gods and goddesses, heroes and heroines, sages, villains and demons were actually envisaged during the classical period. Taken together with the well-devised entries and the informative introduction, these unusual illustrations make The Pimlico Dictionary of Classical Mythologies an indispensable handbook for both students and the general reader.
