Big Brother Revisited by John Landis Pdf

When the government rules unwisely, it's up to the people to change it for the better... After falling deeply indebted to China, the United States government realizes it must do something to regain its glory. In an ironic twist of events, the only way America can remain a global superpower is to ally themselves with poorer countries, thus creating a New World Order. America halts its development while other nations catch up. In addition to other invasive new laws, the men of America are forced to have vasectomies, thus allowing the government to define how many children a family is allowed to have. Jeremy Barnes is a Child of the New Millennium. He has spent his entire life under this New World Order. Despite being a part of the system, Jeremy is dissatisfied with the status quo and often finds himself on the wrong side of the law. He does his best to blend in until the fate of his personal life is no longer within his control and is left in the powerful hands of an oppressive government. Accepting that he cannot bring down the system, Jeremy realizes that the only way to have any personal freedom is to attempt a daring trip that will take him to freer shores than the totalitarian states of America…

Betraying Big Brother by Leta Hong Fincher Pdf

A feminist movement clashing with China’s authoritarian government. Featured in the Washington Post and the New York Times. On the eve of International Women’s Day in 2015, the Chinese government arrested five feminist activists and jailed them for thirty-seven days. The Feminist Five became a global cause célèbre, with Hillary Clinton speaking out on their behalf and activists inundating social media with #FreetheFive messages. But the Five are only symbols of a much larger feminist movement of civil rights lawyers, labor activists, performance artists, and online warriors prompting an unprecedented awakening among China’s educated, urban women. In Betraying Big Brother, journalist and scholar Leta Hong Fincher argues that the popular, broad-based movement poses the greatest challenge to China’s authoritarian regime today. Through interviews with the Feminist Five and other leading Chinese activists, Hong Fincher illuminates both the difficulties they face and their “joy of betraying Big Brother,” as one of the Feminist Five wrote of the defiance she felt during her detention. Tracing the rise of a new feminist consciousness now finding expression through the #MeToo movement, and describing how the Communist regime has suppressed the history of its own feminist struggles, Betraying Big Brother is a story of how the movement against patriarchy could reconfigure China and the world.

Blackberry Summer by RaeAnne Thayne Pdf

New York Times bestselling author RaeAnne Thayne brings readers another heartwarming story of community and romance in Blackberry Summer, the first book in the Hope’s Crossing series. Claire Bradford needed a wake-up call. What she didn’t need was a tragic car accident. As a single mom and the owner of a successful bead shop, Claire leads a predictable life in Hope’s Crossing, Colorado. So what if she has no time for romance? At least, that’s what she tells herself, especially when her best friend’s sexy younger brother comes back to town as the new chief of police. But when the accident forces Claire to slow down and lean on others—especially Riley McKnight—she realizes, for the first time, that things need to change. And not just in her own life. The accident—and the string of robberies committed by teenagers that led up to it—is a message to the people of Hope’s Crossing. The sense of community and togetherness had been lost during those tough years. But with a mysterious “Angel of Hope” working to inspire the town, Riley and Claire will find themselves opening up to love and other possibilities by the end of an extraordinary summer… Previously published. Big Brother Watch by Alex Deane Pdf

The debate about our DNA database, the largest per capita in the world, has dominated headlines throughout the last few years. Britain has more CCTV cameras than any other country in the world, and even more are being installed - including in private homes, facing out into the street. With the Intercept Modernisation Programme, the current government plans to record details of every telephone call made and e-mail sent by people in the United Kingdom. A database of households, is set to be compiled for health and safety reasons, is planned by the NHS. The Independent Safeguarding Authority continues to plan a compulsory register of all those who regularly come into contact with children - perhaps a third of adults in the country. Stop-and-Search powers under the Terrorism Act are argued about as photographers are arrested for taking photographs of public buildings. Data chips in our bins monitor our domestic waste. Despite a temporary retreat on their compulsory status, identity cards (and, more importantly, the database behind them) remain with us. What is the future for civil liberties in modern Britain? Big Brother Watch brings together a collection of essays by experts in fields affected by the increasingly authoritarian nature of British culture - in a country so illiberal it's almost as if normal life is becoming unlawful.
