Flight Vehicle Aerodynamics by Mark Drela Pdf

An overview of the physics, concepts, theories, and models underlying the discipline of aerodynamics. This book offers a general overview of the physics, concepts, theories, and models underlying the discipline of aerodynamics. A particular focus is the technique of velocity field representation and modeling via source and vorticity fields and via their sheet, filament, or point-singularity idealizations. These models provide an intuitive feel for aerodynamic flow-field behavior and are the basis of aerodynamic force analysis, drag decomposition, flow interference estimation, and other important applications. The models are applied to both low speed and high speed flows. Viscous flows are also covered, with a focus on understanding boundary layer behavior and its influence on aerodynamic flows. The book covers some topics in depth while offering introductions and summaries of others. Computational methods are indispensable for the practicing aerodynamicist, and the book covers several computational methods in detail, with a focus on vortex lattice and panel methods. The goal is to improve understanding of the physical models that underlie such methods. The book also covers the aerodynamic models that describe the forces and moments on maneuvering aircraft, and provides a good introduction to the concepts and methods used in flight dynamics. It also offers an introduction to unsteady flows and to the subject of wind tunnel measurements. The book is based on the MIT graduate-level course “Flight Vehicle Aerodynamics” and has been developed for use not only in conventional classrooms but also in a massive open online course (or MOOC) offered on the pioneering MOOC platform edX. It will also serve as a valuable reference for professionals in the field. The text assumes that the reader is well versed in basic physics and vector calculus, has had some exposure to basic fluid dynamics and aerodynamics, and is somewhat familiar with aerodynamics and aeronautics terminology.

Photography in India by Aileen Blaney,Chinar Shar Pdf

Photography’s prominence in the representation and experience of India in contemporary and historical times has not guaranteed it a position of sustained attention in research and scholarship. For a technology as all pervasive as photography, and a country as colossal as India, this scenario is somewhat of an anomaly. Photography in India explores elements of the past, present and future of photography in the context of India through speculation and reflection on photography as an artistic, documentary and everyday practice. The perspectives of writers, theorists, curators and artists are selectively brought to bear upon known as well as previously unseen photographic archives, together with changes in photographic practice that have been synchronous with contemporary India’s rapid urban and rural transformation and the technological shift from chemistry and light to programming and algorithms. Essential reading for anyone interested in Indian photography, this book binds insights into a history of photography with its contemporary development, consolidating wide-ranging thinking on the topic and setting the agenda for future research.

Hemovigilance by René R. P. De Vries,Jean-Claude Faber Pdf

* Hemovigilance is a "quality process" which aims to improve quality and increase safety of blood transfusion, by surveying all activities of the blood transfusion chain, from donors to recipients. Hemovigilance programmes have now been in existence for over 15 years, but many countries and centers are still at the development stage. This valuable resource brings together the main elements of such programmes and shows the different types of models available. A general introduction includes Chapters on hemovigilance as a quality tool for transfusion as well as concepts of and models for hemovigilance. The core of the book describes how Hemovigilance systems have been set up and how they work in hospitals, blood establishments, and at a national level. These Chapters are written according to a structured template: products and processes, documentation of jobs, monitoring and assessment, implementation and evaluation of measures for improvement, education and training. Chapters on Hemovigilance at the International level, Achievements and new developments complete the picture. Hemovigilance is above all a practical guide to setting up and improving hemovigilance systems, whilst raising awareness for reporting adverse events and reactions. This is the first international book on hemovigilance, assembling all the vital issues in one definitive reference source - essential reading for all staff involved in the transfusion process.

Trolleys of the Capital District by Gino DiCarlo Pdf

When it came to first-class transportation, not many regions of North America had more to offer than the trolley lines of New York’s Capital District. From their humble beginnings as horse roads forming belts around Albany, Schenectady, and Troy, these trolley lines helped move people around Upstate New York from the late 1800s until their final exit after World War II. The lines of the United Traction Company, Schenectady Railway, and the Hudson Valley Railway provided hundreds of miles of track around their home cities, as well as direct routes to resorts in the Adirondacks, Lake George, and Saratoga Springs. The trolley lines became famous for disasters that made national headlines, labor disputes, and engineering wonders that included the longest trolley bridge in the world. The vintage images in Trolleys of the Capital District provide insight into an era gone by and an often forgotten form of transportation.

Landscapes of the Western Front by Ross Wilson Pdf

This book examines the British soldiers on the Western Front and how they responded to the war landscape they encountered behind the lines and at the front. Using a multidisciplinary perspective, this study investigates the relationship between soldiers and the spaces and materials of the warzone, analyzing how soldiers constructed a ‘sense of place’ in the hostile, unpredictable environment. Drawing upon recent developments within First World War Studies and the anthropological examination of the fields of conflict, an ethnohistorical perspective of the soldiers is built which details the various ways soldiers responded to the physical and material world of the Western Front. This study is also grounded in the wider debates on how the First World War is remembered within Britain and offers an alternative perspective on the individuals who fought in the world’s first global conflagration nearly a century ago.

A Quantum Kirwan Map: Bubbling and Fredholm Theory for Symplectic Vortices over the Plane by Fabian Ziltener Pdf

Consider a Hamiltonian action of a compact connected Lie group on a symplectic manifold . Conjecturally, under suitable assumptions there exists a morphism of cohomological field theories from the equivariant Gromov-Witten theory of to the Gromov-Witten theory of the symplectic quotient. The morphism should be a deformation of the Kirwan map. The idea, due to D. A. Salamon, is to define such a deformation by counting gauge equivalence classes of symplectic vortices over the complex plane . The present memoir is part of a project whose goal is to make this definition rigorous. Its main results deal with the symplectically aspherical case.
