Moral Theology by Charles J. Callan,John A. McHugh Pdf

Charles J. Callan's 'Moral Theology' stands as a magisterial work that delves deeply into the ethical foundations and implications of Catholic doctrine as synthesized by the Angelic Doctor, St. Thomas Aquinas. With an incisive and systematic approach, Callan elucidates the Thomistic principles that underpin moral action, providing a meticulous explication that weaves together Aquinas's rich legacy with biblical teachings. The book aligns itself squarely within the neo-scholastic movement, offering a literary style that is both rigorous in scholastic methodology and accessible to those seeking a profound understanding of Catholic moral reasoning. We find within its pages a framework that not only sheds light on moral conundrums but also remains relevant in contemporary discourse. Reverend Charles Jerome Callan, a man of profound theological insight and academic prowess, composed this comprehensive treatise to invite both clergy and laypersons into the depths of Catholic moral understanding. His scholarly background, particularly his expertise in Scripture and Thomistic thought, provided a fertile ground for this endeavor, as Callan sought to articulate and promote an orthodox yet dynamic vision of moral theology shaped by Aquinas's intellectual heritage. His purpose was not only to educate but also to inspire a lived moral experience aligned with the Catholic faith. 'Moral Theology' is thus an essential text for theologians, philosophers, and any student of Catholic moral teaching. It serves as a vital reference that compels the reader towards a deeper engagement with ethical questions, viewed through the lens of Aquinas's timeless wisdom. Scholars and practitioners of theology will find in Callan's work both a bridge to the medieval mind and a guide to applying enduring principles in a modern world. This book is especially recommended for those seeking an intellectually authentic and spiritually enriching exploration of Catholic morality.

Communication Habits for the Pilgrim Church by Warren Anthony Kappeler Pdf

Communication has become an important theme and heuristic concept in practical theology for Roman Catholics during the ecumenical age. Communication Habits for the Pilgrim Church explains why the moral order is given priority in Vatican teaching about communication and the reasons for Catholic social teaching to make moral judgments about these new realities. Attention is given in the book to the historical context of Vatican Councils I and II. The first chapter shows that behind the pilgrim Church lies an emerging vision of the threefold ecclesial offices of priest, prophet, and king. Chapter two examines the text and context of the Second Vatican Council's pastoral decree «Inter Mirifica». Chapter three provides a documented history of the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Social Communication and its teachings. In chapter four we return to the threefold office and examine the contribution of Pope John Paul II. It includes an analysis of how the politics of the Magisterium shapes Catholic social teaching. Chapter five develops major tenets of a critical analysis of the communication of the post-Vatican II Church: attention is given to the discursive aspects of religious authority, argumentation, bureaucratization, and market culture. Chapter six takes a step toward examining the pragmatics of contemporary Vatican teaching. For Roman Catholic moral theology, religious ethics is now deeply concerned with providing moral teaching and guidance on ethical questions raised by the social conditions of globalization and media communication. Communication Habits for the Pilgrim Church concludes that there are three basic sociological and theological aspects of the pilgrim Church. These include a ritual approach to religious communication, the generational experience of Catholics and their respective attitudes toward Church teaching, and the important link in the faith's praxis between reflexivity and forming habits of communication.

LATITUDINARIAN MAXIMS THE DIVI by Steven Speray Pdf

New Revised and Expanded Edition. Today, Rome makes the claim that Vatican II introduced no reversal of doctrine and no discontinuity with the past. In fact, in 2007 we were told by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), quoting Paul VI on the changes of the council: "What Christ willed, we also will. What was, still is. What the Church has taught down through the centuries, we also teach." The scope of this study examines the accuracy and truthfulness of this statement given by Paul VI and the CDF based on numerous teachings and practices of the Catholic Church prior to the council. This study focuses on the Divine law particularly and will be divided into two parts beginning with forgotten principles spelled out in writing taken by Bishop George Hay. Also provided are numerous traditional teachings of the Church then contrasting them with the Vatican II popes.

Decolonizing Epistemologies by Ada María Isasi-Díaz,Eduardo Mendieta Pdf

This anthology gathers the work of three generations of Latina/o theologians and philosopher who have taken up the task of decolonizing epistemology by transforming their respective disciplines from the standpoint liberation thought and of what has been called the "decolonial turn" in social theory, theology, and philosophy. At the heart of this collection is the unveiling of subjugated knowledge elaborated by Latina/o scholars who take seriously their social location and that of their communities of accountability and how these impact the development of a different episteme. Refusing to continue to allow to be made invisible by the dominant discourse, this group of scholars show the unsuspecting and original ways in which Latina/o social and historical loci in the US are generative places for the creation of new matrixes of knowledge. The book articulates a new point of departure for the self-understanding of Latina/os, for other marginalized and oppress groups, and for all those seeking to engage the move beyond coloniality as it continues to be present in this age of globalization.
