The People Part by Annie Hyman Pratt Pdf

In the spirit of The One Thing and Start with Why, this guide provides the "missing link" for entrepreneurs to generate fast, sustainable growth, get out of the weeds, and build their A-teams from the inside out. Success in business today means responding to change at an ever-increasing pace—due to factors such as competition, evolving technology, and increasing client expectations. Delivering more value with fewer resources is the name of the game. However, in this environment, even when a business is winning, the leaders and teams playing the game often feel like they are losing—plagued by overwhelm and burnout. Most business books try to address this problem with systems, structures, and values. What’s missing? The “People Part”—the often-misunderstood area of a business where leaders and team members do the actual thinking, interacting, and performing together. Drawing on Annie’s 30 years of working with humans in business, this dynamic and engaging book outlines seven easy-to-implement agreements to build a high-performance team. You’ll learn how to: Lead in a way that supports others to perform at their best, by strengthening your own Self-Leadership Generate a leadership reputation where the best A Players seek to work with you, and stay for the long term Create psychological safety—the environment that empowers team members to collaborate at the highest levels Develop leaders and team members to take on responsibilities with the same commitment level as the owners Supercharge your team productivity with Annie’s signature tools Put the seven agreements to work and see improvements right away If you’re an entrepreneur just starting out . . . a CEO trying to get out of the weeds to work “on” rather than “in” your business . . . a leader who needs a breakthrough for themselves and their team . . . or a team member wanting to make your best contribution yet . . . then The People Part is for you.

Delegate Apportionment in the US Presidential Primaries by Michael A. Jones,David McCune,Jennifer M. Wilson Pdf

This book provides a comprehensive mathematical description and analysis of the delegate allocation processes in the US Democratic and Republican presidential primaries, focusing on the role of apportionment methods and the effect of thresholds—the minimum levels of support required to receive delegates. The analysis involves a variety of techniques, including theoretical arguments, simplicial geometry, Monte Carlo simulation, and examination of presidential primary data from 2004 to 2020. The book is divided into two parts: Part I defines the classical apportionment problem and explains how the implementation and goals of delegate apportionment differ from those of apportionment for state representation in the US House of Representatives and for party representation in legislatures based on proportional representation. The authors then describe how delegates are assigned to states and congressional districts and formally define the delegate apportionment methods used in each state by the two major parties to allocate delegates to presidential candidates. Part II analyzes and compares the apportionment methods introduced in Part I based on their level of bias and adherence to various notions of proportionality. It explores how often the methods satisfy the quota condition and quantifies their biases in favor or against the strongest and weakest candidates. Because the methods are quota-based, they are susceptible to classical paradoxes like the Alabama and population paradoxes. They also suffer from other paradoxes that are more relevant in the context of delegate apportionment such as the elimination and aggregation paradoxes. The book evaluates the extent to which each method is susceptible to each paradox. Finally, it discusses the appointment of delegates based on divisor methods and notions of regressive proportionality. This book appeals to scholars and students interested in mathematical economics and political science, with an emphasis on apportionment and social choice theory.

Delegation Essentials by Sorin Dumitrascu Pdf

Many managers, perhaps yourself included, think that if they want a job done right, they'd better do it themselves. Maybe you've had a negative experience delegating in the past and were disappointed with the results. Or perhaps you have perfectionist tendencies, and believe you can do the job better than anyone else.Possibly you don't delegate often because you simply don't know where to begin or how to do it effectively. Regardless of your own experience with delegating, chances are if you don't delegate, you have way too much on your plate. When you insist on doing everything yourself, as many managers tend to do, you're not devoting your full attention to your true responsibilities as a manager - coaching, motivating, planning, and monitoring. This course will provide you with the information and tools you need to begin delegating effectively. In it, you'll learn several key aspects of delegating:¥ exactly what delegation involves and how it can benefit you, your employees, and ¥ the organization the qualities that all good delegators have in common, and¥ the four different delegation styles.Whether you've never delegated before or are a seasoned delegator, this course will show you how to use delegation to empower your employees to take responsibility for tasks. Instead of worrying that the job won't be done right, you'll be confident that your employees know just what to do. And even more importantly, you'll no longer waste time doing tasks that could be better done by someone else. You'll be able to get back to doing your real job - managing.Do you remember when you first started working in business? You probably got that job because you had special abilities or skills your employer found valuable. Now think about your first good performance review or promotion. It's likely you were praised or rewarded because you were detail-oriented, took responsibility for completing tasks yourself, and didn't try to pass your work on to other people. Well, now you're a manager and it's time to let go of all that. It's often a little shocking for people to realize that the very qualities that made them good employees may hold them back as managers. After all, it was those traits that allowed them to become managers in the first place. But management involves a special skill - delegation. Delegating involves letting go of doing everything yourself, and learning to get things done through other people. There are four steps in the task delegation process. First, choose which task to delegate. Then select the person to perform the task. Next, assign the task to the person. And finally, monitor the person's performance and give feedback. In this course, you'll learn how to implement the four steps of task delegation to delegate work effectively. You'll discover how to determine which tasks should or shouldn't be delegated, and how to choose the right people for those tasks. You'll discover the best way to assign tasks so your employees understand and accept their new responsibilities. You'll also learn how to monitor your employees, and give feedback that will help them be successful at their delegated tasks. It seems like delegating work should be simple - just ask someone to do it, and that's one less thing for you to worry about. But even when you've done your best to match the right task with the right person, problems can arise. Delegation is a learning process - for you and for your team.

Delegation and Agency in International Organizations by Darren G. Hawkins,David A. Lake,Daniel L. Nielson,Michael J. Tierney Pdf

Why do states delegate certain tasks and responsibilities to international organizations rather than acting unilaterally or cooperating directly? Furthermore, to what extent do states continue to control IOs once authority has been delegated? Examining a variety of different institutions including the World Trade Organization, the United Nations and the European Commission, this book explores the different methods that states employ to ensure their interests are being served, and identifies the problems involved with monitoring and managing IOs. The contributors suggest that it is not inherently more difficult to design effective delegation mechanisms at international level than at domestic level and, drawing on principal-agent theory, help explain the variations that exist in the extent to which states are willing to delegate to IOs. They argue that IOs are neither all evil nor all virtuous, but are better understood as bureaucracies that can be controlled to varying degrees by their political masters.
