The Invaders by Pat Shipman Pdf

A Times Higher Education Book of the Week Approximately 200,000 years ago, as modern humans began to radiate out from their evolutionary birthplace in Africa, Neanderthals were already thriving in Europe—descendants of a much earlier migration of the African genus Homo. But when modern humans eventually made their way to Europe 45,000 years ago, Neanderthals suddenly vanished. Ever since the first Neanderthal bones were identified in 1856, scientists have been vexed by the question, why did modern humans survive while their closest known relatives went extinct? “Shipman admits that scientists have yet to find genetic evidence that would prove her theory. Time will tell if she’s right. For now, read this book for an engagingly comprehensive overview of the rapidly evolving understanding of our own origins.” —Toby Lester, Wall Street Journal “Are humans the ultimate invasive species? So contends anthropologist Pat Shipman—and Neanderthals, she opines, were among our first victims. The relationship between Homo sapiens and Homo neanderthalensis is laid out cleanly, along with genetic and other evidence. Shipman posits provocatively that the deciding factor in the triumph of our ancestors was the domestication of wolves.” —Daniel Cressey, Nature

Creating the Soul Body by Robert E. Cox Pdf

Outlines the principles and mechanics of the soul body, the spiritual vehicle that enables individual consciousness to survive the body’s death • Shows that the ancient Vedic, Egyptian, Hebraic, and Pythagorean traditions shared and understood this spiritual practice • Reveals modern science as only now awakening to this ancient sacred science Ancient peoples the world over understood that individual consciousness is rooted in a universal field of consciousness and is therefore eternal, surviving the passing of the physical body. They engaged in spiritual practices to make that transition maximally auspicious. These practices can be described as a kind of alchemy, in which base elements are discarded and higher levels of consciousness are realized. The result is the creation of a vehicle, a soul body, that carries consciousness beyond physical death. These spiritual preparations are symbolized in the Vedic, Egyptian, and Hebraic traditions as a divine stairway or ladder, a step-by-step path of ascent in which the practitioner raises consciousness by degrees until it comes to rest in the bosom of the infinite, thereby becoming “immortal.” This spiritual process explains the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, for example, whose reincarnation is confirmed in infancy through physical and spiritual signs, indicating that the consciousness has been carried from one lifetime to the next. In Creating the Soul Body, Robert Cox maps the spiritual journey of consciousness behind this sacred science of immortality and reveals the practice of creating a soul body in detail. He also shows that this ancient spiritual science resembles advanced theories of modern science, such as wave and particle theory and the unified field theory, and reveals that modern science is only now awakening to this ancient science of “immortality.”

Why Evolution is True by Jerry A. Coyne Pdf

For all the discussion in the media about creationism and 'Intelligent Design', virtually nothing has been said about the evidence in question - the evidence for evolution by natural selection. Yet, as this succinct and important book shows, that evidence is vast, varied, and magnificent, and drawn from many disparate fields of science. The very latest research is uncovering a stream of evidence revealing evolution in action - from the actual observation of a species splitting into two, to new fossil discoveries, to the deciphering of the evidence stored in our genome. Why Evolution is True weaves together the many threads of modern work in genetics, palaeontology, geology, molecular biology, anatomy, and development to demonstrate the 'indelible stamp' of the processes first proposed by Darwin. It is a crisp, lucid, and accessible statement that will leave no one with an open mind in any doubt about the truth of evolution.

Rethinking Hell by Christopher Date,Gregory Stump,Joshua Anderson Pdf

Most evangelical Christians believe that those people who are not saved before they die will be punished in hell forever. But is this what the Bible truly teaches? Do Christians need to rethink their understanding of hell? In the late twentieth century, a growing number of evangelical theologians, biblical scholars, and philosophers began to reject the traditional doctrine of eternal conscious torment in hell in favor of a minority theological perspective called conditional immortality. This view contends that the unsaved are resurrected to face divine judgment, just as Christians have always believed, but due to the fact that immortality is only given to those who are in Christ, the unsaved do not exist forever in hell. Instead, they face the punishment of the "second death"--an end to their conscious existence. This volume brings together excerpts from a variety of well-respected evangelical thinkers, including John Stott, John Wenham, and E. Earl Ellis, as they articulate the biblical, theological, and philosophical arguments for conditionalism. These readings will give thoughtful Christians strong evidence that there are indeed compelling reasons for rethinking hell.

Heaven and Hell by Bart D. Ehrman Pdf

Over half of Americans believe in a literal heaven, in a literal hell. Most people who hold these beliefs are Christian and assume they are the age-old teachings of the Bible. Ehrman shows that eternal rewards and punishments are found nowhere in the Old Testament, and are not what Jesus or his disciples taught. He recounts the long history of the afterlife, ranging from The Epic of Gilgamesh up to the writings of Augustine, focusing especially on the teachings of Jesus and his early followers. Ehrman shows that competing views were intimately connected with the social, cultural, and historical worlds out of which they emerged. -- adapted from jacket

Is the Soul Immortal? by Daniel Ritivoiu Pdf

God, in His providence, has chosen a man through whom to transmit to the generations, the origin of life on this earth. Through Moses the fundamental history was revealed, about who we are, how we got here, why things are so bad and yet there is hope for regaining the original plan. All these are clearly found in the book of Genesis and form the root of our existence. Through Moses was revealed, the panorama of the great struggle between Satan and the Creator. Between Moses and John, the beloved disciple, about 38 authors wrote the word of God. Through John, we have the Revelation, showing the last events of the tragedy sin produced. If we move the complete report of Scripture aside, we will feel we are in the darkness of the many dogmas, traditions, myths, superstitions, non-Christian religions, or evolutionary theories that lack logic. The Christian is called to reason and to filter all that contradicts the divine source, the Bible. Therefore, in order to find an answer to the question on the front cover, "Is the soul immortal?" we will use this source. We have tens and even hundreds of references regarding this subject, which are often ignored. Its advocates are more willing to cut out from the Bible the innumerable clear declarations that the souls of humans are mortal than to give up an idea that comes from outside the Bible. It is true that people were created to live eternally. However, sin interfered with the condition for retaining immortality. For this reason, Plan B had to be set in motion. Through the death of the only One who has eternal life, a way of recovering immortality was opened. Life, time, and talents do not belong to us. They are the master's wealth. [ Matthew 25: 14,15 ] Limited portions are given to us. No one has received an unlimited number of talents. The Master first wanted to see what would be done with the talents given during this life. We cannot claim that we were given an immortal soul, when our lives, time, and talents are given to us temporarily. The way in which we use this short life, our members and given aptitudes will constitute the test required in order to receive eternal life. In order to obtain eternal life, a single thing is needed: "And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent" (John 17:3).

King Harold Ii by Peter Burke Pdf

Strange markings are found in a twelfth-century wall. A retired stonemason seeks to unravel a hidden message carved in haste by an ancient stonemason who risked his life to leave symbols cut into stone so deep that they would remain silent for nine hundred years, until someone should read these symbols and search for their meaning. Who left these strange symbols? Is it possible that a retired stonemason in this modern world could discover the meaning of symbols left by a fellow mason so long ago? It sounds like a work of fiction, but this is a true story. This is a unique and powerful account of a husband and wife who searched for the truth, found the real story, and revealed the true nature of our last Saxon king, Harold Godwinson. It is the English story, known by a small group of monks, loyal to Harold, and recorded in the 12th century. It was written to refute the false claims of William the Duke, the lying Norman, William the Bastard.

Cold-Case Christianity by J. Warner Wallace Pdf

Written by an L. A. County homicide detective and former atheist, Cold-Case Christianity examines the claims of the New Testament using the skills and strategies of a hard-to-convince criminal investigator. Christianity could be defined as a “cold case”: it makes a claim about an event from the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence. In Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace uses his nationally recognized skills as a homicide detective to look at the evidence and eyewitnesses behind Christian beliefs. Including gripping stories from his career and the visual techniques he developed in the courtroom, Wallace uses illustration to examine the powerful evidence that validates the claims of Christianity. A unique apologetic that speaks to readers’ intense interest in detective stories, Cold-Case Christianity inspires readers to have confidence in Christ as it prepares them to articulate the case for Christianity.
