The Politics of Arms Control Treaty Ratification by M. Krepon,D. Caldwell Pdf
In the treaty of Versailles and the SALT II Treaty, years of painstaking diplomatic effort were lost when the United States Senate refused to provide its consent to ratification. This book provides the first comparative assessment ever written of executive-congressional relations and the arms control treaty ratification process. A renowned team of historians, political scientists, and policy analysts look at seven case studies, ranging from Versailles to the INF Treaty, to explore the myriad ways to win and lose treaty ratification battles. This book constitutes a strong marriage of scholarship and public policy.

Abortion Rates in the United States by Matthew E. Wetstein Pdf
Few studies make a direct connection between public opinion, public policies, and the behavior of the mass public. This book demonstrates for the first time that such a connection can be found when examining abortion politics in the United States. Using public opinion data for all fifty states, the author demonstrates that state policies to restrict abortion closely match the preferences of the mass public. More important, he shows a profound link between public opinion on abortion and abortion rates in the United States. Where state publics are more permissive in their attitudes toward abortion, state policies tend to be more permissive, and rates of abortion utilization tend to be higher. The book also explores the impact of policy changes on abortion rates. Using sophisticated statistical techniques, the author examines policy changes at both the state and national level. The analysis points to an intriguing paradox: national policy changes have no real effect on abortion rates, yet state policy changes do. This finding suggests that the states are the place to look for significant changes in abortion utilization in response to policy.

This Report is organized into three parts: Invited Papers, Analysis, and Bibliography. These projects show many interesting and potentially important possibilities for commercial activity, in areas ranging from authoring systems designed to help the electronic origination of scientific and mathematical works, to developments in the field of storing and transmitting graphical information. The Analysis assesses major advances in electronic publishing. The Analysis is constructed by the editor of the Report to provide a balanced and comprehensive view of the latest developments in electronic publishing. The editor's personal analysis of the subject is supplemented by quotations from the Invited Papers, written by leading authorities on the subject. The Bibliography is a specially selected compilation of the most important published material on the subject of electronic publishing. Each key item in the literature is reviewed and annotated to assist in selecting the required information.
