Family Driven Faith (Paperback Edition with Study Questions ) by Voddie Baucham Jr. Pdf

More teens are turning away from the faith than ever before: it is estimated that 75 to 88 percent of Christian teens walk away from Christianity by the end of their freshman year of college. Something must be done. Family Driven Faith equips Christian parents with the tools they need to raise children biblically in a post-Christian, anti-family society. Voddie Baucham, who with his wife has overcome a multi-generational legacy of broken and dysfunctional homes, shows that God has not left us alone in raising godly children. In his Word he has given us timeless precepts and principles for multi-generational faithfulness. Baucham’s celebrated guide for godly, healthy families is now available in paperback, with study questions added. Parents will find this a critical resource for the spiritual nourishment and protection of the next generation.

Families and Faith by Vern L. Bengtson Pdf

Winner of the Distinguished Book Award from American Sociology Association Sociology of Religion Section Winner of the Richard Kalish Best Publication Award from the Gerontological Society of America Few things are more likely to cause heartache to devout parents than seeing their child leave the faith. And it seems, from media portrayals, that this is happening more and more frequently. But is religious change between generations common? How does religion get passed down from one generation to the next? How do some families succeed in passing on their faith while others do not? Families and Faith: How Religion is Passed Down across Generations seeks to answer these questions and many more. For almost four decades, Vern Bengtson and his colleagues have been conducting the largest-ever study of religion and family across generations. Through war and social upheaval, depression and technological revolution, they have followed more than 350 families composed of more than 3,500 individuals whose lives span more than a century--the oldest was born in 1881, the youngest in 1988--to find out how religion is, or is not, passed down from one generation to the next. What they found may come as a surprise: despite enormous changes in American society, a child is actually more likely to remain within the fold than leave it, and even the nonreligious are more likely to follow their parents' example than to rebel. And while outside forces do play a role, the crucial factor in whether a child keeps the faith is the presence of a strong fatherly bond. Mixing unprecedented data with gripping interviews and sharp analysis, Families and Faith offers a fascinating exploration of what allows a family to pass on its most deeply-held tradition--its faith.

Faith, Farming, and Family by Caitlin Henderson Pdf

"When Caitlin Henderson fell in love with a farmer, she learned the important skills of life through refinement in the ever-changing seasons as a mother and farmer's wife. Because Caitlin didn't grow up on a farm, there was a period of adjustment and struggle--intermixed with humorous mishaps--as she learned to navigate this different way of life. The Rural Way is filled with stories and the lessons God taught her along the way about His goodness, grace, love, and redemption. From the big lessons like facing your fears to the simpler ones like the impact of hospitality, adventures such as run-ins with cows, wayward tractors, and a squeaky farmhouse enliven each enthralling story. Woven through every chapter are the scriptures that our weary souls need to be refreshed and strengthened in truth. Caitlin shares how God used the challenges that arise on a farm to refine her, but that each season is one that any wife and mother like you can relate to--even if you're far removed from the rural way of life. Whether you are in the middle of a wheat field, or in the heart of the city, you can grab hold of these moments and lessons as you reflect on a simpler way of life"--

Faith, Family, and Fried Pies by Lorine Beaty Pdf

Lorine Beaty(September 19, 1927–June 3, 2016)My family always went to church; many of the social activities were in the church family. The little churches back then in the country, the parents would take a quilt into the church and make a pallet for their younger ones on the floor beneath the bench which they were sitting. One time, Mother and Daddy thought they woke one of my sisters up and assumed she went to the wagon. Without checking, we headed home and did not realize until we arrived home that she was not with us!Some of my earliest memories are of a two-room house with, of course, a dog run in the middle. Sleeping arrangements with a family of six children and my mother and daddy were quite interesting. Sometimes we were fortunate enough to have a featherbed, but more often, it was corn shucks in a mattress. One of the foods that stands out most in my memories were my mother's fried pies—dried fruit wrapped in a pastry circle fried in butter. I still can remember that taste, recipe included.

A Stunning World of Faith, Family, and Friendship- and The Unforeseeable by Ronald C. Leadbetter Pdf

Much of the world we live in is perceived by many as dangerous and unfriendly. Well into his early adulthood, the author thought so, to the extent that he had little interest in traveling outside the boundaries of his homeland. He certainly lacked any interest whatsoever in traveling overseas. While the author travelled extensively throughout the United States for work-related as well as personal purposes, preplanning of trip details was the norm. Assistance of tourist agencies was utilized regularly in order to assure comfort and safety. Overnight accommodations were almost always prearranged. All plans focused on assuring comfort and convenience. While the author proclaimed Christian faith early in his professional career, that proclamation did not extend to sharing that faith with others outside the United States or even locally outside the author's comfort zone. The author refrained from personally interacting with people of unfamiliar cultures, let alone those in foreign locales deemed difficult or even impossible to reach and interact with. Then an incredible transformation took place in the author's life. Roughly thirteen years into the author's professional career, his fear of the unknown and unfamiliar cultures was miraculously removed from his being. Shortly after, his staunch commitment to advance planning of trip details was eradicated little by little. Following the removal of fear of the unknown from the author's persona, he was, time and again, drawn into experiences falling further and further outside his previous comfort zone. Over time, the author was increasingly blessed with amazing new friendships overseas, wonderful ties with families abroad, and incredible faith-sharing opportunities in foreign lands--"independent" travels that have taken him to nearly ninety countries worldwide. Ron's amazing interactional experiences were regularly intertwined with stunning events most would describe as unpredictable, inconceivable, or even impossible--and virtually always unforeseeable. Hence the title of this book, A Stunning World of Faith, Family, and Friendship--and the Unforeseeable. In many instances, the experiences described in these pages might appear to be grossly exaggerated or even fabricated. Hence the inclusion of numerous photos documenting the stunning truth.

Faith, Family, and Filipino American Community Life by Stephen M. Cherry Pdf

Stephen M. Cherry draws upon a rich set of ethnographic and survey data, collected over a six-year period, to explore the roles that Catholicism and family play in shaping Filipino American community life. From the planning and construction of community centers, to volunteering at health fairs or protesting against abortion, this book illustrates the powerful ways these forces structure and animate not only how first-generation Filipino Americans think and feel about their community, but how they are compelled to engage it over issues deemed important to the sanctity of the family. Revealing more than intimate accounts of Filipino American lives, Cherry offers a glimpse of the often hidden but vital relationship between religion and community in the lives of new immigrants, and allows speculation on the broader impact of Filipino immigration on the nation. The Filipino American community is the second-largest immigrant community in the United States, and the Philippines is the second-largest source of Catholic immigration to this country. This ground-breaking study outlines how first-generation Filipino Americans have the potential to reshape American Catholicism and are already having an impact on American civic life through the engagement of their faith.
