The Complete Book of 1910s Broadway Musicals by Dan Dietz Pdf

The 1910s shaped the future of the American musical. While many shows of the decade were imports of European operettas, and even original Broadway musicals were influenced by continental productions, the musicals of the 1910s found their own American voice. In The Complete Book of 1910s Broadway Musicals, Dan Dietz covers all 312 musicals that opened on Broadway during this decade. Among the shows discussed are The Balkan Princess, The Kiss Waltz, Naughty Marietta, The Firefly, Very Good Eddie, Leave It to Jane, Watch Your Step, See America First, and La-La-Lucille. Dietz places each musical in its historical context, including the women’s suffrage movement and the decade’s defining historical event, World War I. Each entry features the following: Plot summary Cast members Creative team, including writers, lyricists, composers, directors, choreographers, and producers Opening and closing dates Number of performances Critical commentary Musical numbers and the performers who introduced the songs Numerous appendixes include a chronology, discography, filmography, Gilbert and Sullivan productions, Princess Theatre musicals, musicals with World War I themes, and published scripts, making this book a comprehensive and significant resource. The Complete Book of 1910s Broadway Musicals will captivate and inform scholars, historians, and casual fans about this influential decade in musical theatre history.

Rex Zero and the End of the World by Tim Wynne-Jones Pdf

It's the summer of 1962, and to twelve-year-old Rex the world is starting to look like a pretty scary place. On TV there are reports about the Russians and a nuclear war. Some people in his new neighborhood are even building bomb shelters in their backyards. Rex learns that there's trouble closer to home as well. A black panther has escaped from a zoo and he and his friends are sure they have spotted the creature in their local park -- and it is Rex who comes up with a plan to trap it. In this smart, vivid and touching novel, Tim Wynne-Jones explores the time and place of his own childhood when a kid could spend an entire summer below the radar of adults. But it was also a time of great uncertainty and menace, when memories of an old war were still fresh, and fears of a new one were looming.

Flora Brown by Amanda Giorgis Pdf

The year is 1880 and cousins John James Mackenzie and Sam Morling set out to make a new life for themselves in Scotland. Having never ventured beyond the shores of New Zealand, they seek adventure and excitement on their journey before settling at the Scottish estate owned by the Mackenzies, where, with John James’ farming experience and Sam’s desire for landscaping, they hope to restore the house and grounds to their former glory. The estate manager’s daughter, Flora Brown, is not only pretty, but clever and determined. She has her own ideas and dreams of a life in New Zealand with the laird’s son. She fears she will be overlooked because of her lowly social standing, but intends to try everything she can to make him notice her. Isabella, daughter of the neighbouring estate, shares Sam Morling’s passion for plants. As love begins to blossom between them, Isabella finds her way blocked by her cruel and over-bearing brother who considers gentle Sam to be an entirely unsuitable match. Meanwhile, at Applecross sheep station, James and Sophia Mackenzie are growing older, much in need of their son’s help. Sophia has always believed that her son would stay in Scotland forever, though James disagrees and expects him to do his duty on the farm. A sudden change of circumstances requires John James’ immediate return, bringing with him echoes of his father’s past. Flora Brown is the 7th book in the Applecross Saga

Know Me by Nancy Curci Pdf

Throughout the dozens of interviews in this book with veterans of four wars, veterans who have experienced combat, there seems to be a consistent thread that goes through the veterans’ words about wars, politics, weapons, biases, and human life. The words go, “War does not end war, it begets war,” “Stronger weapons may hinder but do not stop war.” “Individuals, in spite of their gender, color, or culture have become more equal in the military due to their courage, bravery, and proof of equal abilities.” Humans will go forth to protect their beliefs, their homes and their country when they believe it is a justified cause, and are willing to risk life and limb. There are three things that stayed the same throughout all the interviews. One: Wars are usually concocted by politics, greed, money and power and that these are the root of most wars. Two: The young, even before their brain is totally developed, are the ones who do the dying. Three: Although the military was ready to desegregate around 1947 the country still continued with the Jim Crow laws and the Green Book Travel Guide until sometime in the sixties. My question to you is, our young joined or were drafted, and they went to war, stayed the course, did the job, paid the price, and paid it forward. Could we at least pay it back? Could we at least know who they were and are? These are the people we are speaking about when we say “boots on the ground.”

From the USA Today bestselling author of Sunshine Beach, a story of four women trying to rebuild more than their lives... Before you can fix it up, you might have to tear it down... Embroiled in a battle to regain control of their renovation-turned-reality TV show, Do Over, Maddie, Avery, Nikki, and Kyra find themselves holding tight to the frayed ends of their friendship and relationships. Maddie must face the realities of dating a rock star once again topping the charts and dealing with her hapless ex-husband, while Avery is caught up in family drama even as she attempts to transform a tiny cottage into a home for the newly impoverished heiress who helped bankroll their last renovation. Put on bedrest, a hugely pregnant Nikki can’t quite believe love can last, or trust in her own maternal instinct. And Kyra, who has secretly put Bella Flora at risk in an attempt to salvage Do Over, must decide whether to accept a desperately needed bail out from her son’s famous father that comes with far too many strings attached… But friendship is made for times like these, to keep each other—and their dreams—from crumbling.
