Profound reflections on the cross that help you to meditate on and marvel at the sacrificial love of Jesus. This book can be used as a devotional, especially during Lent and Easter. These profound reflections on the cross from David Mathis, author of The Christmas We Didn’t Expect, will help you to meditate on and marvel at Jesus’ life, sacrificial death, and spectacular resurrection-enabling you to treasure anew who Jesus is and what he has done. Many of us are so familiar with the Easter story that it becomes easy to miss subtle details and difficult to really enjoy its meaning. This book will help you to pause and marvel at Jesus, whose now-glorified wounds are a sign of his unfailing love and the decisive victory that he has won: “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) This book can be used as a devotional. The chapters on Holy Week make it especially helpful during the Lent season and at Easter.

Marriage and the Mystery of the Gospel by Ray Ortlund Pdf

"This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church." — Ephesians 5:32 Marriage reveals something of eternal significance. From the beginning, God designed marriage to convey a greater reality—the passionate, unfailing, redeeming love of God for sinners, the eternal romance between Christ and his bride. In this volume, Ray Ortlund traces marriage throughout Scripture—from the first marriage in the garden of Eden to the ultimate marriage in the book of Revelation—laying out a transcendent vision of marriage that dignifies our own imperfect unions as a display of the gospel. This book offers insight and hope to every married person today. Part of the Short Studies in Biblical Theology series.

The Four Vision Quests of Jesus by Steven Charleston Pdf

A unique look at Christian biblical interpretation and theology from the perspective of Native American tradition. This book focuses on four specific experiences of Jesus as portrayed in the synoptic gospels. It examines each story as a “vision quest,” a universal spiritual phenomenon, but one of particular importance within North American indigenous communities. Jesus’ experience in the wilderness is the first quest. It speaks to a foundational Native American value: the need to enter into the “we” rather than the “I.” The Transfiguration is the second quest, describing the Native theology of transcendent spirituality that impacts reality and shapes mission. Gethsemane is the third quest. It embodies the Native tradition of the holy men or women, who find their freedom through discipline and concerns for justice, compassion, and human dignity. Golgotha is the final quest. It represents the Native sacrament of sacrifice (e.g., the Sun Dance). The chapter on Golgotha is a discussion of kinship, balance, and harmony: all primary to Native tradition and integral to Christian thought.

Marriage by Dietrich Von Hildebrand Pdf

Before we examine the nature, the meaning, and the beauty of Christian marriage (which St. Paul calls "a great mystery in Christ and the Holy Church"), we shall examine the essence and meaning of marriage in the realm of nature, and its specific character in reference to all other fellowships and communities. Only in this way can we understand what was so gloriously exalted by Jesus Christ and thus dispel the misinterpretations of the nature of marriage so frequently encountered. Why does Holy Scripture choose this particular relationship as an image? It is chosen because marriage is the closest and most intimate of all earthly unions in which, more than in any other, one person gives himself to another without reserve, where the other in his complete personality is the object of love, and where mutual love is in a specific way the theme (that is to say, the core) of the relationship.

Marriage, a Mystery and a Ministry by Israel Kristilere Pdf

t is ordinarily surprising to see couples who have lived together in marriage, even as Christians for a long I time, still finding it difficult to find a smooth harmony in their relationship with one another. In my short time of adult life and even shorter time in marriage and Christian ministry, I have continued to ponder over why this is so. Experience, they say, is the best teacher, but yet even with a long time of experience in marriage one should have expected that some of our older couples should have learnt and mastered the art of marriage and should have found their rhythm in it and are living in the bliss that God intended marriage to be; but alas! We are yet far from that ideal. In Marriage: A Mystery And A Ministry, Rev. Israel Kristilere, under divine inspiration, has unveiled a truth that I believe both new and old couples need to understand in order to help them find the needed harmony, and enjoy the bliss of their marriage relationships. This truth is that Foreword Foreword marriage is both a mystery and a ministry. First, it is a mystery in the sense that it cannot be completely understood by ordinary mortals since it originated from God who Himself no one can claim to have completely understood. Second, God intended marriage to be a union of two people into one flesh. This is not normal within the natural realm. There is no way two people can become one in ordinary terms. No wonder men have continued to struggle to attain this for very many years as stated above and yet without complete success. The author of this book has tried to show some specific areas where marriage operates as a divine mystery. But it is my joy to say that this mystery has been revealed in Jesus Christ. The Bible says in Colossians 2:9 that He is the fullness of God in bodily form and He Himself has said that whoever has seen Him has seen the Father. Therefore whatever is hidden from the mortal mind about God, including the mystery of marriage can be known and understood through Christ who is the express revelation of God. The writer of this book has therefore taken advantage of the revelations of God's mind about marriage as revealed by Jesus in the word of God to help us better understand what it really is and how God wants us to operate it in order to enjoy it. He has also thrown light to the fact that marriage is an opportunity of service, which is another word for ministry. In marriage, God intended that the man and the woman should mutually serve one another in their desire to attain the fullness of satisfaction and the realisation of their full potentials as people whom God created as the ultimate beneficiaries of all the beautiful things he has created here on earth. For this mutual service to be optimally effective, Rev. Israel Kristilere has made an effort to show some very important avenues through which the couple must express their ministry to one another. Some of these include love, submission, effective and unbroken communication, contentment, a good intake of the word of God, and above all a communal prayer life. He is very optimistic that your marriage can and should work. I believe this is God's will for you. This optimism has led him to show some things you need to know and do to get your marriage to work for you or work better. The book has truly refreshed me and I believe that the revelations in it are going to transform and bless your marriage if you will act on them appropriately. I encourage you therefore to read on and discover these mysteries that have been uncovered for you by the spirit of God through His servant. May you really be blessed as you go through. Amen. Rev. Amos A. Kunat Lagos, Nigeria.

The Mystery Revealed! by Larry D. EDWARDS Pdf

The mystery of Revelation is unfolded by the Prophet, the Lord Jesus Christ. Revelation is based on the prophetic themes of the Old Testament and the development of those themes in the Olivet Discourse. This commentary integrates the book of Zechariah, most of the book of Daniel, and several chapters from other visionary prophets with the message of Revelation. The world is in the throes of the labor pains of the end times. Bible prophecy alludes to the nations that will be of worldwide concern during these times: England, the United States, Russia, Israel, and several Middle East nations. Persecution of Christians and Jews, terrorism, and Satanism are prophesied. The Scriptures tell of a Great Middle East War that will occur at the end of the Great Tribulation where weapons of mass destruction may be used. The relevancy of prophecy to the current world situation is discussed throughout this commentary. During his medical career, the author has studied internal medicine, geriatrics, and infectious diseases and been credentialed in these fields. He has published in scientific journals in the discipline of infectious diseases. His medical fellowships include the American College of Physicians, the American College of Physician Executives, and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He has held several administrative positions at an executive level. He has published in Christian periodicals on the subject of "Medicine and the Scriptures" and authored a prior book, The Twelve Generations of the Creation with Biblical Timelines from Adam to Christ (Longwood, FL: Xulon Press, 2007). He is a past Dean of a Christian medical school. He has served on several boards of churches and Christian organizations. He has taught group Bible studies for over four decades. In order to better understand the Bible, he has studied Hebrew and Greek.

The Mystery of Marriage by Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburgh Pdf

According to Jewish mysticism, the souls of a husband and wife originate in the same undifferentiated spiritual essence. These souls are bound as one, and the purpose of marriage is to enable a couple to manifest this unity in the context of everyday life. Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburgh shows how the natural process of mating of establishing a healthy relationship, fostering togetherness, and ultimately merging into true oneness--is a spiritual act of the highest order. Drawing on modern psychology and Kabbalistic wisdom, with many illustrations from Biblical personalities, the author traces the steps through which today's married couple can actualize their relationship ideals in their daily life. Includes glossary, footnotes, and index.
