How to Breathe, Speak and Sing (Classic Reprint) by Robert Stephenson Pdf

Excerpt from How to Breathe, Speak and Sing The collection of vocal exercises with piano accompaniment at the conclusion of this volume, together with Chapter VIII, which deals with the Old Italian Method, will be found of more interest to the vocalist than to the student of the speaking voice, though the latter is strongly advised to bear in mind the dictum of Morell Mackenzie, which appears at the head of Chapter I, and to resolutely pursue his studies in the direction of vocal technique. Position and Action in Singing by Edmund J. Myer Pdf

Excerpt from Position and Action in Singing: A Study of the True Conditions of Tone; A Solution of Automatic (Artistic) Breath Control However, I claim to have something new to Ofier to the readers of the profession, new at least to many of them, hence, this little book. Not new in the science of voice but in the art of voice, in its production and use. I come with ideas which I feel must appeal to the common sense and reason of those who will read carefully, thoughtfully and honestly. I do not expect to find favor in the eyes of those who are so biased and prejudiced that a new impression is impossible. It has been said, however, that the agitation of thought is the beginning of wisdom. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Art of Breathing as the Basis of Tone-Production by Leo Kofler Pdf

Excerpt from The Art of Breathing as the Basis of Tone-Production: A Book Indispensable to Cingers, Elocutionists, Educators, Lawyers, Preachers, and to All Others Desirous of Having a Pleasant Voice and Good Health My book differs from the great majority of other works upon voice-culture in still another respect. The majority have been writ ten when their authors were yet in the teens of their professional career. In perusing these volumes we come across many' places where the thought involuntarily crosses our minds: How much bet ter it would have been if the author had waited twenty years before writing his book! I entered the musical profession young in life, and have always been a very close student, especially of vocal sci ence; still I did not dare to come outwith one printed sentence until I was satisfied that I could say something that had been matured within myself, and that had borne fruit for years in the many pupils who do credit to the principles Of my book. To the friends of the first edition, who may miss a great many things in this volume that were in The Old Italian School, I wish to say that my intention is to publish the remainder some day in a separate book. The reason that I have paid so much attention to the laws of tone-production is because I know that without them voice-culture is a farce, and instead of leading to artistic singing, vocal instruction is degraded to a system of tricks and to virtuosity in howling. The Art of Singing by William Shakespeare Pdf

Excerpt from The Art of Singing: Based on the Principles of the Old Italian Singing-Masters, and Dealing With Breath-Control and Production of the Voice, Together With Exercises To this end two factors are necessary; first, the breath must be under perfect control; second, the vocal organs must be trained to act with unconscious case. If these essentials be acquired, the qualities of expression and intensity will suffer no diminution even in the largest buildings. There are few who, on first trying to sing, have not felt themselves contract ing the throat uncomfortably, and the more in proportion to their endeavours to add force to their efforts, or. The Art of Voice-Production With Special Reference to the Methods of Correct Breathing (Classic Reprint) by A. A. Pattou Pdf

Excerpt from The Art of Voice-Production With Special Reference to the Methods of Correct Breathing But has the knowledge of vocal culture advanced with equal strides in the path of research and discovery? Why so many divergent opinions on the subject of sing ing? Do the vocal teachers of to-day devote the serious and earnest study to their profession which is required of all men wedded to scientific pursuits? If so, why has the wonderful art of Porpora well nigh departed from amongst us? Why so few perfectly cultivated voices? Or, is it, perchance, because the teacher does not thoroughly know how, and the pupil is not willing to master absolutely, the many difficulties which stand in the way of obtaining a perfect vocal technique? The Technics of Bel Canto (Classic Reprint) by G. B. Lamperti Pdf

Excerpt from The Technics of Bel Canto Experience a sensitive ear, and the gift of intuition and individualization. The Vocal Organs may be described briefly as a pipe with double-reed, blown by means of diaphragm and lungs. The Voice results from the projection of an air-current against the Vocal Cords in varying degrees of tension. In forming the voice, three groups of muscles cooperate, namely, the Breathing-muscles, the Vocal muscles, and the Sound-modifying muscles. The mode of breathing required for artistic singing is diaphragmatic breathing. It is the sole method by which a singer can conduct sufficient air tranquilly', and with a minimum of exertion, from the lungs to the vocal organs. Deep Breathing by Sophia Marquise a Ciccolina Pdf

Excerpt from Deep Breathing: As a Means of Promoting the Art of Song, and of Curing Weaknesses and Affections of the Throat and Lungs, Especially Consumption The following pages on Deep Breathing seem to me too valuable not to be preserved in permanent form. They were originally translated by Mr. E. S. Werner for the admirable paper which he publishes, entitled The Voice, and, after having done good service in that journal, he has kindly consented to have them appear in this form for still more extended usefulness. It may not be out of place if I say a few words in this preface on the relations of the atmosphere to life, which will serve to enforce the value of the practice of deep breathing. Where respiration is full and vigorous, as for instance in most birds, life is energetic. Where it is feeble, as in snakes and frogs, life is torpid. Man lives in proportion as he breathes, and the activity of the child is in close relation to the strength of its lungs so, too, is the calm ness, dignity and power of man in proportion to the depth and tranquillity of his respiration. If the lungs are strong and active, there is courage and boldness. If feeble, there is cowardice and debility. To be out of spirits is to be out of breath. To be animated and joyous is to be full of breath. When eager and full of enterprise, we consume large quantities of air; when weary, we yawn when frightened, we are breathless and aghast. -how ever well we feed ourselves, if we do not breathe enough.
