Darcy's Passions by Regina Jeffers Pdf

Witty, romantic and insightful, Darcy’s Passions captures the original style and sardonic humor of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice while turning the entire story on its head. Written from the perspective of Fitzwilliam Darcy, this novel tells his version of an improbable, even obsessive relationship with a most impossible woman—Elizabeth Bennet. This novel reveals Darcy’s passion and conviction but also his turmoil. Darcy knows that duty to family and estate demands he choose a woman of refined tastes. Yet, what his mind tells him to do and what his heart knows to be true tear him in opposite directions. He loves a woman he first denies for being unworthy, but it is he who is found wanting when Elizabeth Bennet refuses his proposal of marriage. Devastated, Darcy must search his soul and transform himself into the man she can love and respect.

Legacy of Hate: A Short History of Ethnic, Religious and Racial Prejudice in America by Philip Perlmutter Pdf

For all its foundation on the principles of religious freedom and human equality, American history contains numerous examples of bigotry and persecution of minorities. Now, author Philip Perlmutter lays out the history of prejudice in America in a brief, compact, and readable volume. Perlmutter begins with the arrival of white Europeans, moves through the eighteenth and industrially expanding nineteenth centuries; the explosion of immigration and its attendant problems in the twentieth century; and a fifth chapter explores how prejudice (racial, religious, and ethnic) has been institutionalized in the educational systems and laws. His final chapter covers the future of minority progress.

Women and Liberty, 1600-1800 by Jacqueline Broad,Karen Detlefsen Pdf

There have been many different historical-intellectual accounts of the shaping and development of concepts of liberty in pre-Enlightenment Europe. This volume is unique for addressing the subject of liberty principally as it is discussed in the writings of women philosophers, and as it is theorized with respect to women and their lives, during this period. The volume covers ethical, political, metaphysical, and religious notions of liberty, with some chapters discussing women's ideas about the metaphysics of free will, and others examining the topic of women's freedom (or lack thereof) in their moral and personal lives as well as in the public socio-political domain. In some cases, these topics are situated in relation to the emergence of the concept of autonomy in the late eighteenth century, and in others, with respect to recent feminist theorizing about relational autonomy and internalized oppression. Many of the chapters draw upon a wide range of genres, including polemical texts, poetry, plays, and other forms of fiction, as well as standard philosophical treatises. Taken as a whole, this volume shows how crucial it is to recover the too-long forgotten views of female and women-friendly male philosophers of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. In the process of recovering these voices, our understanding of philosophy in the early modern period is not only expanded, but also significantly enhanced, toward a more accurate and gender-inclusive history of our discipline.

Passion & Prostrations: A Sensual "Pride & Prejudice" Variation by Abbey North Pdf

Puppies, illness, and confusion might lead to a passionate HEA for ODC. An impromptu puppy rescue followed by a drenching rainstorm marks Lizzy?s first meeting with Mr. Darcy and his sweet sister. Quickly followed by his boorish remarks at the Assembly ball, she is left with a negative opinion of the prideful man. A bout of illness strands her at Netherfield, and a high fever leads her to the wrong room. When they are discovered the next morning, everyone ignores Lizzy?s insistence that nothing happened, and Darcy offers for her. It is with pure reluctance, and he clearly believes she manipulated him into being forced to marry her. With his good opinion of her seemingly lost forever, how can there be happiness in their union? This started out as a sweet JAFF (?Puppies & Prostrations?), but Abbey has since updated it to include an intimate scene. It is now SENSUAL, but the story remains the same otherwise. The original sweet version is still available at one retailer.
