"A Cry of the Poor" is my tenth book of Poetry and a collection of poems from previous works that focus primarily on social justice issues. In addition to creating my own Cover Image, there are poverty drawings throughout this book which capture the urgency of the needs of the poor. The poetry moves the heart to be compassionate and to assist those less fortunate than ourselves: the starving, the refugee, the homeless and the poor in general throughout our world and in our own country of the United States.

In Poor, Caleb Femi combines poetry and original photography to explore the trials, tribulations, dreams and joys of young Black boys in twenty-first century Peckham. He contemplates the ways in which they are informed by the built environment of concrete walls and gentrifying neighbourhoods that form their stage, writes a coded, near-mythical history of the personalities and sagas of his South London youth, and pays tribute to the rappers and artists who spoke to their lives. Above all, this is a tribute to the world that shaped a poet, and to the people forging difficult lives and finding magic within it. As Femi writes in one of the final poems of this book: 'I have never loved anything the way I love the endz.'

At age 11, me and my mama became houseless, and I had to drop out of formal institutions of learning. I enrolled full-time in the skoo of hard knocks to survive, where my Xingona warrior, indigenous, disabled, poverty skola Mama Dee was my writing teacher. Mama was a "G" and not user-friendly or easy on me, but she was insistent that the AristoKrazy didn't own writing, history, art, poetry, theory and storytelling and that it was extremely important for poor and houseless, "uneducated" people like us to take that lie back and write powerful poetry and prose about our struggles and our lives. This is for you, Mama-I miss you everyday.

Pobrecitos, a word meaning Poor Ones, is a collection of poems and illustrations about the poor of the world, whether they be poor in physical resources or lacking social or spiritual support. The poems reflect such experiences as street venders, visits to churches, coffee shop encounters and rides on trains in back-country regions throughout the world. Survivors of war, neglect and depleted spirit are held up and honored in this poem-memoir written by a grandmother with old eyes and illustrated by two young women who see the same dilemmas of the world with fresh eyes and clarity of youth.

Poet to the Poor is a collection of poetry written for the bottom one percent. This work draws from historical figures and everyday people from John's life, creating a powerful poetic testimony. In revolutionary fashion John defies both the politics of the day and the modern style of poetry. The poems are written in a wide variety of styles, and rhyming is prominent. Passion and purpose abounds in these words. With over forty of the poems previously published, this work constitutes John's best, including the award winning poem "Tea with Joe Hill". If you want something to inspire you to change the world, this book is a must. Take a journey into the lives of the bottom one percent. The poor.
