Medication without harm: policy brief by World Health Organization Pdf

Patient harm due to unsafe care is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide and most of this harm is avoidable. Harm due to medicines and therapeutic options accounts for nearly 50% of preventable harm in medical care. The main objective of this policy brief is to support successful implementation of the third WHO Global Patient Safety Challenge: Medication Without Harm, and to advocate for prioritizing medication safety in health care. It will also support implementation of the Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021-2030, on policies relating to eliminating avoidable harm in health care and ensuring the safety of clinical processes. Solutions that can be implemented in countries are proposed under four domains: the patient and the public; health and care workers; medicines as products; and systems and practices of medication within the three action areas: high-risk situations, polypharmacy and transitions of care. This document is a resource for policy-makers, health workers, health care leaders, academic institutions and other relevant institutions, to understand the global burden of medication errors, address and prevent medication-related harm at all levels of health care, aligned with the strategic plan of the third WHO Global Patient Safety Challenge: Medication Without Harm.

Policy brief: access to assistive technology by Anonim Pdf

The need for assistive technology is rising rapidly with global ageing and increasing prevalence of noncommunicable diseases. Yet, assistive technology is often disregarded on global health and development agendas, resulting in limited and fragmented investment in the sector. This policy brief highlights key challenges in ensuring equitable access to assistive technology. It provides concrete actions to improve access across five key areas - people-centred: policy, products, personnel, and provision (5P). The brief is targeted at policy-makers involved in designing assistive technology policies and programmes, especially those involved in designing universal health coverage programmes. It is also relevant for all stakeholders working in these areas. The brief aims to raise awareness of the individual and societal benefits of improving access to assistive technology within universal health coverage. It describes how access to assistive technology is life-changing for people in need, and how improving access benefits everyone. Including assistive technology within universal health coverage and strengthening provision through primary health care will help to foster healthier populations and future generations that can participate and contribute more fully in education, labour markets and civil society.

The primary objective of this product is to provide a brief practical guide of policy options to support national (health and labour) and workplace level policy makers to implement the evidence-based recommendations of the forthcoming WHO guideline on mental health at work. The policy brief describes the policy options required to prevent mental health conditions at work, to promote mental health at work, and to ensure people living with mental health conditions can access and effectively participate in line with the recommendations in the WHO guideline. Similar to the WHO guideline on mental health at work, the policy brief includes considerations for lower-resourced settings. The policy brief aims to increase the implementation of evidence-based mental health prevention, promotion and care for people who work or who aspire to work and are living with mental health conditions. By doing so, the product strengthens the enactment of WHO Comprehensive Mental Health Action Plan 2013-2030, WHO Global Strategy on Health Environment and Climate Change, and International Labour Organization Conventions relevant to the area of mental health, such as, but not limited to the Occupational Safety and Health Convention.

Policy Brief: Nordic ecosystem services: by Kristin Magnussen,Siri Voll Dombu Pdf

Nature provides us with a multitude of goods like food and fiber, drinking water, protection against floods and storms, carbon storage and recreational services like swimming and bird watching. Our welfare and well-being depend on these goods and services – often called ecosystem services, defined as “the benefit people directly and indirectly obtain from nature”. We often distinguish between four categories of ecosystem services; supporting, provisioning, regulating and cultural ecosystem services. This report aims to sum up and show some examples of the results of the ecosystem services projects carried out for NCM. It illustrates which ecosystem services we receive from Nordic nature and the importance of these. It also shows examples of how the ecosystem services approach has been and can be used in management of nature in the Nordic countries, and to point out some knowledge gaps.

Policy brief: Climate policies are not gender neutral by Lander Svendsen, Nina,Weber, Katrine,Factor, Gabriela,Winther Engelsbak, Laura,Fischer-Bogason, Rikke Pdf

Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2021-548/ How do we ensure gender balanced climate policies? This policy brief provides conclusions and recommendations based on the report "How climate policies impact gender and vice versa in the Nordic countries".The Nordic countries have set-out ambitious climate mitigation targets that require structural changes of the Nordic societies in terms of how we move, live, eat, and consume in a low carbon manner. Climate action plans draw the paths of how each of the Nordic countries are to realise these climate mitigation targets. While all the Nordic countries acknowledge that climate policies impact gender, the actual gender mainstreaming of the climate action plans is limited. The policy brief provides recommendations on how to move forward towards how gender-responsive climate policies can be ensured.

South Africa: cross-programmatic efficiency analysis. Policy brief by Anonim Pdf

As South Africa looks to progress towards universal health coverage (UHC), including the establishment of the National Health Insurance (NHI), the cross-programmatic efficiency analysis sought to examine and address underlying efficiency issues in the current system and support ongoing reform efforts. It also provided information to policymakers about possible ways to better coordinate and integrate components of the TB, HIV/AIDS, and MNCH health programmes so as to meet population health needs in an efficient manner. This policy brief, which outlines the identified inefficiencies, their implications, and policy options, is written based on that analysis performed in 2016, with recognition that changes in the health system may have taken place since the study was conducted.

The project has resulted in two main reports: Nordic Stocktake – Pathways to Climate Neutrality & Nordic Visions of Climate Neutrality. The Nordic Stocktake concludes that the Nordics need to accelerate the green transition, especially within transport, industry and agriculture. Countries that have the tools, know-how and institutional and financial capacity can demonstrate mitigation options in all sectors. The project's visions of a climate neutral Nordic society is not just only about emission reductions and technology. The net zero transformation creates opportunities, jobs and spurs investments and innovation. Nordic climate neutral societies are in social and environmental balance. A smarter society with inclusive democracy and long-term policies.

Toward the Charter by Christopher MacLennan Pdf

At the end of the Second World War, a growing concern that Canadians' civil liberties were not adequately protected, coupled with the international revival of the concept of universal human rights, led to a long public campaign to adopt a national bill of rights. While these initial efforts had been only partially successful by the 1960s, they laid the foundation for the radical change in Canadian human rights achieved by Pierre Elliott Trudeau in the 1980s. In Toward the Charter Christopher MacLennan explores the origins of this dramatic revolution in Canadian human rights, from its beginnings in the Great Depression to the critical developments of the 1960s. Drawing heavily on the experiences of a diverse range of human rights advocates, the author provides a detailed account of the various efforts to resist the abuse of civil liberties at the hands of the federal government and provincial legislatures and the resulting campaign for a national bill of rights. The important roles played by parliamentarians such as John Diefenbaker and academics such as F.R. Scott are placed alongside those of trade unionists, women, and a long list of individuals representing Canada's multicultural groups to reveal the diversity of the bill of rights movement. At the same time MacLennan weaves Canadian-made arguments for a bill of rights with ideas from the international human rights movement led by the United Nations to show that the Canadian experience can only be understood within a wider, global context.
