Establishing Predominance of English for Specific Purposes within Adult English Language Teaching by Nijolė Burkšaitienė,Nadežda Stojković Pdf
English for Specific Purposes (ESP) has accumulated substantial tradition in practice, research and theory. It is a common approach in English Language Teaching (ELT) among adults today, starting with high schools, then in academia, pre and in-service training, and life-long learning programs. The role of ESP in each of these is to facilitate work in today’s inevitably international business and scientific environment. It provides language training based on the precise simulation of communicative situations found in the surroundings for which learners are preparing, including, for example, domain specific vocabulary, syntactic and morphological structures, text and speech content structuring, stylistics, intercultural competence. At present, when English is present either as a foreign or second language, learning General English (GE) is to a large degree accomplished before learners start needing English for their jobs. In this way, ESP does not complete GE, but builds upon the foundations laid by it in learners’ prior education. ESP is a channel of communication for the contemporary academia and economics. However, even so, these are still early days for ESP, as it does not yet have a recognised place within academia. Only very recently have we begun to witness the occasional but encouraging emergence of ESP academic courses and departments. This book thus explores practice and research conducted and under way in this field of ELT in order to assist its recognition as an autonomous academic discipline.
Scaling Impact introduces a new and practical approach to scaling the positive impacts of research and innovation. Inspired by leading scientific and entrepreneurial innovators from across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Middle East, this book presents a synthesis of unrivalled diversity and grounded ingenuity. The result is a different perspective on how to achieve impact that matters, and an important challenge to the predominant more-is-better paradigm of scaling. For organisations and individuals working to change the world for the better, scaling impact is a common goal and a well-founded aim. The world is changing rapidly, and seemingly intractable problems like environmental degradation or accelerating inequality press us to do better for each other and our environment as a global community. Challenges like these appear to demand a significant scale of action, and here the authors argue that a more creative and critical approach to scaling is both possible and essential. To encourage uptake and co-development, the authors present actionable principles that can help organisations and innovators design, manage, and evaluate scaling strategies. Scaling Impact is essential reading for development and innovation practitioners and professionals, but also for researchers, students, evaluators, and policymakers with a desire to spark meaningful change.
Neuromuscular Diseases by Michael Swash,Martin S. Schwartz Pdf
In the seven years since the first edition of this book was published there have been many important developments in knowledge of neuromuscular diseases. These are reflected in this new edition. We have taken the opportunity to add much new clinical and scientific material to the book, particularly in relation to metabolic myopathies and neuropathies, and to include more information on genetic aspects of neuromuscular diseases, quantitative electromyo graphic techniques, plexus and root lesions and cardiomyopathies. The aim of the book remains unchanged, but we have rearranged some of the material so that there are several new chapters. The illustrations have also been extensively revised and there are many new references. We hope that it will continue to provide a convenient source of practical and theoretical information that will not only be useful in managing patients with neuromuscular diseases, but will stimulate research. London, May 1987 Michael Swash Martin S. Schwartz Preface to the First Edition Neuromuscular diseases are common in clinical practice. Patients with these disorders may be referred to neurologists, rheumatologists, orthopaedic surgeons, paediatricians or to general physicians, and their investigation, utilising electromyography (EM G) and muscle biopsy, often requires the help of the clinical neurophysiologist and of the pathologist.

Predominant Factors for Firms to Reduce Carbon Emissions by Mark Strutzenberger Pdf
This paper intends to find the predominant factors for corporations to reduce their carbon emissions. In light of an in-depth literature review, various determinants have been assessed and compared according to their importance. Results show that carbon pricing schemes creating revenue which can be redistributed are the most effective governmental measures. Even though there are ways to circumvent these systems, such as moving operations, bribery or using bargaining power to adjust bills in the first place, a large majority of firms were found to adapt to new laws. The most significant reasons in the organisational domain are economic benefits arising mainly thanks to cost savings and risk mitigation of anticipated regulation as well as competition. Moreover, stakeholders play a key role in the decision-making process of firms. Especially market actors with direct influence on a company's turnover, like consumers and investors, were observed to be able to exert great power on enterprises. By giving an insight into these factors, this paper helps to understand what can possibly spur urgently needed action for climate by corporations.

Management of Cardiovascular Disease in Women by Hanna Z. Mieszczanska,Gladys P. Velarde Pdf
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women in the US, with more women dying from heart disease than men. Women may have different presentation from men and often need a different approach to diagnosis and treatment. There are also unique topics of management of heart disease in women, including issues during pregnancy, lactation, and menopause. Many different health care providers, as well as cardiologists are involved in treating these patients. A manual reviewing diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease in women would help providers without specific cardiology training to deliver care with greater efficiency. A practical and comprehensive guide geared towards these providers would be a highly practical and valuable resource that would be utilized in everyday practice in offices that include urban clinics, general medicine offices, obstetrics and gynecology offices, as well as in the surgical subspecialties. This book will be a highly practical resource that can be directly applied to the issues that arise in everyday practice. There is no available book on the market that focuses on a broader approach to cardiac disease in women or focuses on non-cardiology providers (and their trainees) who have the need to know more about treatment of cardiovascular disease in women.
