An Analysis of Initial Static Pressure Probe Measurements in a Low-density Hypervelocity Wind Tunnel by David E. Boylan Pdf

An initial experimental program was previously conducted to study the problems in using static pressure probes for flow calibration purposes in low- density, hypervelocity wind tunnels with continuous flow. This data is reviewed in the light of more recent data on thermal transpiration. Results indicate that such probes may be used for what might be termed secondary calibrations, but care is required in interpreting the results. The present experiment yielded data which are compared to static pressures calculated from impact- pressure probe calibrations.

Instrumented Probes for Deep Glacial Investigations by Haldor W. C. Aamot Pdf

Thermal probes have been developed that can carry instrumentation packages into polar ice sheets for geophysical investigations and long-term observations by remote measurement. They are self-contained, surface-controlled devices. During development work at USA CRREL problems with materials, fabrication, and heat transfer analysis were solved. The Philberth probe, named after its inventor, demonstrated its performance capability in Greenland. The pendulum probe was a further development with increased performance and versatility. Advanced Statistical Methods for Astrophysical Probes of Cosmology by Marisa Cristina March Pdf

This thesis explores advanced Bayesian statistical methods for extracting key information for cosmological model selection, parameter inference and forecasting from astrophysical observations. Bayesian model selection provides a measure of how good models in a set are relative to each other - but what if the best model is missing and not included in the set? Bayesian Doubt is an approach which addresses this problem and seeks to deliver an absolute rather than a relative measure of how good a model is. Supernovae type Ia were the first astrophysical observations to indicate the late time acceleration of the Universe - this work presents a detailed Bayesian Hierarchical Model to infer the cosmological parameters (in particular dark energy) from observations of these supernovae type Ia.

Phosphorescent Oxygen-Sensitive Probes by Dmitri Papkovsky,Alexander V. Zhdanov,Andreas Fercher,Ruslan I. Dmitriev,James Hynes Pdf

Biological O2 sensing probes and measurement techniques were first introduced in the late 80s. In the last 3-5 years they have undergone major development that have made them available and affordable for a broad range of applications in various disciplines of the life and biomedical sciences. These new chemistries and technologies, which are significantly different from the majority of other fluorescence-based probes and detection techniques, have already demonstrated their high utility. This book will provide a systematic overview of the existing and emerging O2 sensing technologies in their different modifications, a practical guide to their rational selection and use, and examples of biological applications/case studies, including details on how to set up and conduct such experiments, troubleshoot and interpret the data.
