Process Modeling in Pyrometallurgical Engineering by Henrik Saxén,Marco A. Ramírez-Argáez,Alberto N. Conejo,Abhishek Dutta Pdf

The Special Issue presents almost 40 papers on recent research in modeling of pyrometallurgical systems, including physical models, first-principles models, detailed CFD and DEM models as well as statistical models or models based on machine learning. The models cover the whole production chain from raw materials processing through the reduction and conversion unit processes to ladle treatment, casting, and rolling. The papers illustrate how models can be used for shedding light on complex and inaccessible processes characterized by high temperatures and hostile environment, in order to improve process performance, product quality, or yield and to reduce the requirements of virgin raw materials and to suppress harmful emissions.

Blast Furnace Phenomena and Modelling by The Iron and Steel Institute of Japan Pdf

As ironmakers are well aware, it was only a few decades ago that the blast furnace was viewed as a strange 'black box'. Recently, however, various in-furnace phenomena have become the subject of serious scientific study, largely as the result of the 'dissection' of dead furnaces, together with the development of advanced monitoring and control techniques. In this way, a new frontier has been opened within the venerable domain of metallurgy. In the light of these new developments, the Committee on Reaction within Blast Furnaces was set up in March 1977 by the Joint Society ofIron and Steel Basic Research - a cooperative research organization of the Iron and Steel Institute of Japan (ISIJ), the Japan Institute of Metals (JIM) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). Consisting of twenty-six members and advisors drawn from the fields of academia and industry, this committee collected, discussed, and evaluated numerous papers during its five year commission. Particular attention was paid to the interpretation of findings drawn from the autopsy of dead furnaces, in the context of the live furnace state, and the correlation of data regarding cohesive zone configuration, level, and furnace performance. The results of this intense research activity are presented here in the hope that they will serve not only as a source of enrichment to the professional knowledge of researchers and operators, but also as textual material for graduate students in the field of metallurgy.

Dead Man Running by Steve Hamilton Pdf

Alex McKnight--hero of Steve Hamilton's bestselling, award-winning, and beloved private eye series--is back in a high-stakes, nail-biting thriller, facing the most dangerous enemy he's ever encountered. On the Mediterranean Sea, a vacationer logs on to the security-camera feed from his home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Something about his living room seems not quite right--the room is bright, when he's certain he'd left the curtains closed. Rewinding through the feed, he sees an intruder. When he shifts to the bedroom camera, he sees the dead body. Martin T. Livermore is the key suspect in the abduction and murder of at least five women, but he's never been this sloppy before. When the FBI finally catches him in Scottsdale, he declares he'll only talk to one person: a retired police officer from Detroit, now a private investigator living in the tiny town of Paradise, Michigan. A man named Alex McKnight. Livermore means nothing to McKnight, but it soon becomes clear McKnight means something to Livermore...and that Livermore's capture was only the beginning of an elaborate, twisted plot with McKnight at the center. In a hunt that will take him across the country and to the edge of his limits, McKnight fights to stop a vicious killer before he can exact his ultimate revenge. And his grand finale will cut closer to home than he ever could have imagined.

Dead Man's Road by Randy Denmon Pdf

A veteran on the frontier has his eyes on the prize but needs to watch his back in this thrilling Western novel from the author of The Lawless Frontier. A nation is staggering to its feet after the long, devastating Civil War. The West is full of dreamers, wanderers, fighters and builders. One man has a plan to build a railroad—that plunges him into a brutal battle for survival. IN A LAND OF BEAUTY AND DEATH… In the high Rocky Mountains, Civil War veteran Marshall Brewster has a vision of wealth and fame. Under the tutelage of a hardened railroad tycoon, Brewster will build a railroad connecting Colorado’s booming silver mines to a country starved for wealth—and maybe win himself the hand of a beautiful woman in the process. But as in war, Brewster’s plan is soon shattered by the enemy: an angry, proud and desperate tribe of Cheyene warriors, a competing railroad baron and the ruthless, murderous hired guns at his beck and call… On a landscape of towering mountains, driving snow and clear rushing streams, the blood of fighters and innocents is being shed. And for a man who thought he already had his fill of war, another is just beginning—with no retreat, no surrender, and even bloodier than the battle he left behind…

Dead Man's Curve by Mark A. Moore Pdf

Jan Berry, leader of the music duo Jan & Dean from the late 1950s to mid-1960s, was an intense character who experienced more in his first 25 years than many do in a lifetime. As an architect of the West Coast sound, he was one of rock 'n' roll's original rebels--brilliant, charismatic, reckless, and flawed. As a songwriter, music arranger, and record producer for Nevin-Kirshner Associates and Screen Gems-Columbia Music, Berry was one of the pioneering self-produced artists of his era in Hollywood. He lived a dual life, reaching the top of the charts with Jan & Dean while transitioning from college student to medical student, until an automobile accident in 1966 changed his trajectory forever. Suffering from brain damage and partial paralysis, Jan spent the rest of his life trying to come back from Dead Man's Curve. His story is told here in-depth for the first time, based on extensive primary source documentation and supplemented by the stories and memories of Jan's family members, friends, music industry colleagues, and contemporaries. From the birth of rock to the bitter end, Berry's life story is thrilling, humorous, unsettling, and disturbing, yet ultimately uplifting.

Dead Man's Wine by Parker French Pdf

Two dead men. Two mysterious lists. And a Scottish wine expert with a nose for trouble. A week before the fabulous Flight of Fancy Charity Auction in Sonoma, California, someone kills a counterfeiter concocting fakes of very expensive wine. Wine expert Sarah McKee is called in to help identify the victim—if she can. Whoever killed him took his wallet, car, and computer—as well as his face. What they didn’t take was a list in the dead man’s pocket—a mystifying series of numbers, circles and checkmarks. Then a second man is killed, and the same list is found. Prints on the murder weapon point to Sarah’s friend, Zach Sullivan, who is struggling to put his world back together after his father gambled away the family winery. Zach is the only one with a motive for killing both men. Determined to clear Zach’s name, Sarah teams up with a sexy, by-the-book sheriff to investigate the murders. But as they get closer to the truth, Sarah discovers the counterfeit ring will stop at nothing to protect their lucrative operation. Can Sarah figure out what the lists mean, catch the real killer at the auction, and save her friend?
