Reminiscences Of The Great Mutiny 1857-59 [Illustrated Edition] by Sgt. William Forbes-Mitchell Pdf

Illustrated with over one hundred maps, photos and portraits, of the battles, individuals and places involved in the Indian Mutiny. A fascinating view of the Indian Mutiny from a non-commissioned officer. “These Reminiscences are submitted to the public in the trust that they will be welcomed alike by soldier and civilian. They are recorded by one who was himself an actor in the scenes which he describes, and who viewed them from a novel and most unusual position for a military historian—the ranks. They have been carefully perused by an officer who was present at many of the operations mentioned; and considerable pains have been taken to verify, wherever possible, those incidents of which he was not personally cognisant. The interest of Mr. Forbes-Mitchell’s straightforward and soldierlike story is enhanced by the coincidence that he takes up the pen where Lady Inglis laid it down; and it is hoped that this volume may prove an acceptable continuation of her touching narrative of the Defence of Lucknow, and that, as a record of the Great Mutiny, it may furnish another thrilling chapter in that unparalleled story of suffering and of heroism,—of man’s bravery and of woman’s devotion.”—Introduction

Mark Twain, the Globetrotter: Complete Travel Books, Memoirs & Anecdotes (Illustrated Edition) by Mark Twain Pdf

Though best known for his adventure novels and humorous stories, Twain was a passionate world traveler and he recorded his journeys in several travel books which were all very popular at the time: "The Innocents Abroad" humorously chronicles Twain's "Great Pleasure Excursion" on board the chartered vessel Quaker City through Europe and the Holy Land in 1867. "Roughing It" follows the travels of young Mark Twain through the Wild West during the years 1861–1867. The book illustrates many of Twain's early adventures, including a visit to Salt Lake City, gold and silver prospecting, real-estate speculation and a journey to the Kingdom of Hawaii. "Old Times on the Mississippi" is a short account of Twain's experiences as a cub pilot, learning the Mississippi river. "A Tramp Abroad" details Twain's journey through central and southern Europe with his friend. As the two men make their way through Germany, the Alps, and Italy, they encounter situations made all the more humorous by their reactions to them. "Life on the Mississippi" is a memoir by Mark Twain of his days as a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River before the American Civil War, recounting his trip along the Mississippi River from St. Louis to New Orleans after the War. "Following the Equator" – In an attempt to extricate himself from debt, Twain undertook a tour of the British Empire in 1895, a route chosen to provide numerous opportunities for lectures in English. The book is a social commentary, critical of racism towards Blacks, Asians, and Indigenous groups. "Some Rambling Notes of an Idle Excursion" presents a series of stories about a trip that Twain and some friends took to Bermuda from New York City. "Chapters from my Autobiography" comprises a rambling collection of anecdotes and ruminations of Mark Twain, assembled during his life. Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910), better known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer.

Now, for the first time ever, The Reminiscences of a Stock Operator Collection brings together three classic titles based on this unique individual and offers profound insights into his motivations, attitudes, and strategies. Reminiscences of a Stock Operator, the fictionalized biography of Jesse Livermore, has endured over seventy years because traders and investors continue to find lessons from Livermore's experiences that they can apply to their own endeavors Reminiscences of a Stock Operator, Illustrated Edition reproduces the original articles by Edwin Lefèvre and drawings by M.L. Blumenthal published in the Saturday Evening Post in the 1920s Reminiscences of a Stock Operator, Annotated Edition bridges the gap between Edwin Lefevre's fictionalized account of Livermore's life and the actual, historical events, places, and people that populate the book. Reminiscences of a Russian Antiquarian Bookseller by Lev Abramovich Glezer Pdf

Paula Israelewicz, the Russian-born linguist and librarian has made available to Western readers, in an English translation, Reminiscences of a Russian Antiquarian Bookseller, the memoirs, written at an advanced age by eldest Moscow book dealer L.A. Glazer. The volume recounts Glazer’s sixty years’ experience in the book world of his time and place. Throughout the eight chapters, Glazer gives the reader a detailed account of his encounters with booklovers in all walks of life; noted bibliophiles, scholars, bookmen and bibliographers, writers, actors, musicians and also students whom he inspired with an interest for books. The many ‘treasures’ and private collections handled by Glazer during his long career are described in the book, mostly Russian works from the 16th to the 20th century, writings of Russian authors such as Pushkin and many others. The beginning of Glazer’s career coincided with a period after the revolution. For the Western reader it is interesting to realize that even under the Soviet regime ‘normal’ life went on in the milieu dedicated to books. Perhaps reading and book collecting constituted an ‘escape’ from the troubles of daily life, the persecutions of the Stalin era, and the horrors of World War Two.

Reminiscences of a Nonagenarian by Sarah Anna Emery Pdf

Excerpt from Reminiscences of a Nonagenarian: Edited and Illustrated My grandmother, after her afternoon nap, usually joined her daughters, with a pretence at knitting, but she was not an industrious old lady. There was no necessity for work; and if idle hours are a sin, I fear the good woman had much to answer for. Leaning back in her easy-chair, she beguiled the time with watching the splendid prospect, with its' ever-varying lights and shades, or joined in the harmless gossip Of some neighboring woman, who had run in with her sewing, for an hour's chat.
