The Complete Life of Krishna by Vanamali Pdf

The first book to cover Krishna’s entire life, from his childhood pranks to his final powerful acts in the Mahabharata war • Draws from the Bhagavad Purana, the Bhagavad Gita, the Mahabharata, and India’s sacred oral tradition • Shows how the stories of Krishna’s life are expressed with such simplicity and humor that they enable anyone--man, woman, or child--to see the wisdom of his teachings • Provides a valuable meditative tool that allows the lessons of these stories to illuminate from within Krishna, one of the most beloved characters of the Hindu pantheon, has been portrayed in many lights: a god-child, a prankster, a model lover, a divine hero, an exemplary ruler, and the Supreme Being. In The Complete Life of Krishna, Vanamali, a leading Krishna expert from a long line of prominent Krishna devotees, provides the first book in English or Sanskrit to cover the complete range of the avatar’s life. Drawing from the Bhagavad Purana, the Bhagavad Gita, the Mahabharata, and India’s sacred oral tradition, Vanamali shares stories from Krishna’s birth in a dungeon and early days as a merry trickster in Vrindavana, through his time as divine ruler at Dwaraka, to his final powerful acts as the hero Arjuna’s charioteer and guru in the Kurukshetra war. She explains how Krishna became a mahayogi, the greatest of all yogis, and attained complete mastery over himself and nature. By integrating the hero-child with the mahayogi, the playful lover with the divine ruler, Vanamali shows how the stories of Krishna’s life are expressed with such simplicity and humor that they enable anyone--man, woman, or child--to see the wisdom of his teachings. This complete biography of the man who was also a god provides a valuable meditative tool allowing Krishna’s lessons to illuminate from within.

Confronting Orientalism by Sabrina D. Misir Hiralall Pdf

The author aims to use Kuchipudi Indian classical Hindu dance to educate non-Hindus about Hinduism with postcolonialism in mind. This goal arises from her dance experiences and the historical era of imperialism. Colonization occurs when those in power believe there is a need to dominate in a manner that subjugates people. Colonizers created colonies as they moved into territory because they felt there was a need to “civilize” the so-called savages of the land. Postcolonialism is an intellectual discourse that confronts the legacy of colonialism and attempts to de-colonize. With the legacy of colonialism and a postcolonial lens in mind, some research questions arise. How does she, as a Kuchipudi dancer, use Hindu dance to educate non-Hindus about the Eastern literature of Hinduism? For non-Hindus, she feels the power of the exoticizing gaze when she dances, which might very well block the educational intention of the dance. This exoticizing gaze prevents the understanding of the traditional nature of the dance and the introduction to Hinduism as a world religion. The author’s problem is moving the exotic gaze of non-Hindus to an educational gaze that seeks to learn about the ethics of Hinduism in a manner that takes into consideration the multiple perspectives of the complex society we live in today. “In short, MisirHiralall’s research highlights the role of contemplation and critical-self reflection in creating opportunities for true intercultural relations that respect the epistemologies of traditionally marginalized and stigmatized non-Western religions and cultures. This is essential theoretical and practical research for a multicultural society that is grounded in first-person, lived experience.” – Tyson E. Lewis, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Art Education, University of North Texas “Most impressive is that MisirHiralall is walking her talk through a thoughtful and lyrical self-study that is situated in the in-between: between the mind and body, the gaze of the Other and the self, the Eastern and Western worlds, and the fields of dance, religion, philosophy, cultural studies, and teacher education.” – Monica Taylor, Ph.D., Professor and Deputy Chair of the Department of Secondary and Special Education, Montclair State University “In MisirHiralall’s Confronting Orientalism, the reader is gifted with a rare glimpse into a philosopher-educator’s wrestling with her teaching through the medium of Hindu dance .... All who think seriously about the context and impact of their teaching in connection with their core values can benefit from reading of this book.” – Michael D. Waggoner, Ph.D., Professor of Postsecondary Education, University of Northern Iowa, Editor of Religion & Education

Satyam Param Dhimahi ( Part 2)) by Sangameswaran Nurani Pdf

सत्यं परं धीमहि SATYAM PARAM DHIMAHI Part 2 is the culmination of the pastimes of Shri Krishna presented from the 10th Volume of Srimad Bhagavatam (Dasama Skandam). This book is not mere stories about Shri Krishna. Rather, they are the essence of the original scripture. Srimad Bhagavatam is Vedic knowledge and this book attempts to keep the presentation close to the original text. Those interested can use it for further interpretation or discourse in terms of Vedic wisdom or pure devotion. The worthy object and the subject of veneration in the personality of Shri Krishna impelled even the waters of the Ganges, emerging from the pious Lotus feet of Shri Hari, irrelevant. That manifested personality (of Shri Krishna) enabled both friends and enemies to attain his own identity equally without discrimination. Sri Mahalakshmi, for whose favor people worship her, being the Goddess of Affluence, is at the constant service of Shri Krishna devotedly. His pious names are capable of destroying inauspiciousness, even if one listens to them once or pronounces them. The successive uninterrupted flow of the pearls of Vedic wisdom through various sages, as a matter of tradition, commenced from him. Shri Krishna holds the Sudarshana disc representing the flow of eternal time. I consider it as my fortune that I could touch upon DASAMA SKANDAM from Srimad Bhagavatam and present them to the best of my ability. I am sure, those interested in Srimad Bhagavatam will relish the Satyam Param Dhimahi Part 1 and 2.

SATYAM PARAM DHIMAHI ( Part 1) by Sangameswaran Nurani Pdf

The book SATYAM PARAM DHIMAHI illustrates the pastimes of Shri Krishna in consonance with the tenth volume of Srimad Bhagavatam written by Saint Vedavyasa and discoursed by his renowned son Sage Suka Brahma Rishi. The incidences relate to the developments that took place about five thousand years ago when the Supreme Power manifested on this earth in human form as Shri Krishna. The vivid memories of Shri Krishna's pastimes have been cherished and passed on from one generation to the other since then. Associating oneself with Shri Krishna either through his pastimes, teachings, courage, opulence, or any part of his deeds elevates a person to a higher level in life. However, this book is not a mere description of stories about Shri Krishna. Rather, they are the essence of the texts converted to English from the original scripture. Srimad Bhagavatam is the gist of the Vedic knowledge and this book attempts to keep the presentation in English as close to the original text. Those interested can use it for further interpretation or discourse in terms of Vedic wisdom or pure devotion. This apart, it enables the awareness about Shri Krishna without anecdotes or interpretations from sources other than the original text as presented by Saint Vedavyasa. Viewed from this angle, this book is the ideal one as the contents traverse through the actual. The book elevates the aim of a person to congruously pursue the truth and perceive it as such in the true sense of SATYAM PARAM DHIMAHI.
