Hana's Suitcase by Karen Levine Pdf

New edition with foreword by Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu: “How extraordinary that this humble suitcase has enabled children all over the world to learn through Hana’s story the terrible history of what happened and that it continues to urge them to heed the warnings of history.” In the spring of 2000, Fumiko Ishioka, the curator of a small Holocaust education centre for children in Tokyo, received a very special shipment for an exhibit she was planning. She had asked the curators at the Auschwitz museum if she could borrow some artifacts connected to the experience of children at the camp. Among the items she received was an empty suitcase. From the moment she saw it, Fumiko was captivated by the writing on the outside that identified its owner – Hana Brady, May 16, 1931, Waisenkind (the German word for orphan). Children visiting the centre were full of questions. Who was Hana Brady? Where did she come from? What was she like? How did Hana become an orphan? What happened to her? Fueled by the children’s curiosity and her own need to know, Fumiko began a year of detective work, scouring the world for clues to the story of Hana Brady. Writer Karen Levine follows Fumiko in her search through history, from present-day Japan, Europe and North America back to 1938 Czechoslovakia and the young Hana Brady, a fun-loving child with a passion for ice skating. Together with Fumiko, we learn of Hana’s loving parents and older brother, George, and discover how the family’s happy life in a small town was turned upside down by the invasion of the Nazis. Based on an award-winning CBC documentary, Hana’s Suitcase takes the reader on an incredible journey full of mystery and memories, which come to life through the perspectives of Fumiko, Hana and later Hana’s brother, who now lives in Canada. Photographs and original wartime documents enhance this extraordinary story that bridges cultures, generations and time. Ideal for young readers aged 9 and up. Hana’s Suitcase is part of the award-winning Holocaust Remembrance Series for Young Readers.

Suitcase to Heaven by Emilia En L'air Pdf

If you are struggling to make sense of this life, it may be that you arent thinking of heaven as your permanent home. The world may disappoint you, but God will never let you down; you just have to receive His embrace and thereby avoid wasting your pain. In this inspirational memoir, author Emilia En Lair shares her transformation through tribulation, recalling how she turned to God during every single hardship. The trials of her life did not destroy but rather defined her, as God restored her and healed all her wounds and unbearable heartaches. As a consequence, everything she has gained and lost in this world has brought her closer to God by filling her void with spiritual gifts. In addition to her own journey of faith, hope, and miracles, she also offers guided prayers, self-reflections, and further reading from the Scriptures. No matter what trials or pains you are experiencing, you can find healing in Gods love, forgiveness, and faith. Suitcase to Heaven reminds you that you have not yet reached your final destination and that you are still a traveler with some distance yet to go.

Please-Don't-Rain Suitcase by K.L. Smith Pdf

Please-Don't-Rain Suitcase is a fictional novel that tells the story of the hardships and adjustments that Blake Davis experiences when he becomes an orphan. The story highlights the emotions he feels when he loses everything in life that matters to him. He is forced to put the shattered pieces of his life together and move forward through his tears, grief, fears of the unknown, feelings of hopelessness and emptiness, and the loss of dreams. In 1950, eight-year-old Blake Davis is thrown into foster care after his mother dies and his father is unable to care for him and his siblings. The Welfare Department intervenes, and the siblings are split up and scattered. Blake's story highlights the good and bad experiences that he lives through in foster care and later in an orphanage. Blake is placed in three different foster homes over a six-year period. He experiences both good and bad foster care. Blake is powerless and at the mercy of his caregivers. Not having a mother or father to intervene in his well-being leaves him vulnerable to abuse. The instability of foster care makes it impossible for Blake to put down roots. At the age of fourteen, Blake is placed in an orphanage in Western North Carolina. The story follows Blake through his years in the orphanage and how the orphanage helps prepare him for life in the outside world. When he graduates from high school, the orphanage sends him out into the world with a Bible, a twenty-dollar bill, and a please-don't-rain cardboard suitcase. All his belongings are packed into the one flimsy suitcase. Blake's story follows him into life outside the orphanage and focuses on how he copes and overcomes the circumstances of his shattered life in his search of love, happiness, and the place where he fits best in the world.

If you’d like to find out more about the natural wonders of Poland, the heritage sites, the beautiful, wide landscape, and why so many travellers choose to go to the land of zloty and pierogi, then this book has been bookmarked for you. The laughs, the landscape, the characters, the sheer beauty of it all. Come travel with me and find out for yourself what all the fuss is about.
