The Doors of the Church are Closed by Dr. Dana Carson Pdf

Martin Luther and John Calvin challenged Roman Catholicism; John Wesley, George Whitefield, and Jonathan Edwards challenged spiritual lethargy; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. challenged America’s social injustice; and now Dr. Dana Carson is challenging the Christian Church! The Doors of the Church are Closed is one of the most relevant 21st century writings to the Church. Statistics suggest nearly 4,000 churches are closing with only 1,200 to 1,800 opening annually. Less than 20% of Americans attend church and 97% of churches didn’t win one convert last year! Yet, the Church has exchanged its mission of Kingdom expansion for popularity and wealth. The Doors of the Church Are Closed! This book identifies the root causes of the contemporary Church’s failures and raises some monumental challenges to believers. This book is a must read for the Body of Christ and those who desire to fulfill the will of God in their lives.

Open the Doors and See All the People by Norma Cook Everist Pdf

This journey book invites the reader to go with the author on her travels to dozens of congregations all over the United States, discovering their assets and strengths as well as their struggles and fears. She was not critic, nor teacher, nor consultant, but visitor. Guest. She learned from the people of God she met, appreciated them, and gave thanks. The book was written for enjoyment; it quite possibly also will challenge. The purpose of the book is to help congregations claim their identity in the body of Christ and be strengthened for their vocation in God's public world. The key to unlocking the book is to use the questions for reflection and discussion. Stories beget stories. By focusing on issues in other contexts congregations are sometimes able to talk more easily about important questions they face in our own settings.

Open the Door, See All the People by Daniel Stombaugh,Julie Keene Pdf

This is the church. This is the steeple. Open the doors. See all of the people. This is how it began. As a child, this was my introduction to the church, my place in the church, and the purpose of the church in the world around us. The things we have experience in our journey in understanding God's heart for us are never covered within the concept of those four hand movements because God loves to operate out from behind closed doors. In fact, we have had it all wrong for a very long time. We act out the little children's rhyme and when we "Open the doors to see all of the people" part, we are looking within the walls as if the most important thing about the purpose of the church is what happens within. The reality is the most important thing about the church is what it does without. When we open the doors we should be looking out of the church to "See all of the people." The focus of the modern Christian in many cases has become more about what is going on within the church than upon what is going on without. We have no trouble saying "This is the church; this is the steeple" part, but somewhere in the process of making those hand gestures we hit a snag. We have a disconnect with our ability to effectively get everyone within the church with a steeple to open the doors. We seem to feel a struggle with the "Open the doors and see all the people" part. Opening a door starts with one person deciding a door needs to be opened and then doing something about it. This book is an invitation to notice what we have missed.
