The Character of God in the Book of Genesis by Anonim Pdf

By using recent developments in literary theory, W. Lee Humphreys uses Genesis to show how God functions as a character in the Genesis narrative. Very creatively, Humphreys explores the coherence and consistency of God as a character, the way in which God's character changes and develops throughout the narrative, and how giving attention to the character of God enriches our experience of reading Genesis.

Dark Voices by Pikes Noah Pdf

Beginning with his struggle with destructive forces, and his first meetings with Roy Hart, the author recounts the fantastic work of discovery and redress of the human voice which begins with the devastating experiences of Alfred Wolfsohn, a young German musician and singing teacher in the trenches of World War 1. There follows his meeting in London in 1947 with a gifted young actor, Roy Hart, on a scholarship at RADA, leading ten years later to medical and media recognition of the significance of Wolfsohn's teachings and its astounding results. After Wolfsohn's death in 1962, Hart continues both his own and the group's work of extending vocal range, singing, and personal development, while adding that of acting. In 1969 Hart emerges as a powerful, memorable, yet disturbing performer of works written for his voice by three contemporary composers, including 8 Songs for a Mad King, the founding work of music theatre. In 1969 the group also performs publicly for the first time, at a theatre festival in France. This 3rd edition retains all chapters from the 2nd, but with new front and back material, including reflections on the central role of several of C.J. Jung's concepts for Wolfsohn, Hart, and Roy Hart Theatre. Among others the notions of individuation, archetypes and opposites, came to be pivotal in their approach to voice. This book is essential for anyone interested in the expressive capacities of the human voice today and is also an inspiring book about creativity and self-realisation. Noah Pikes' narrative draws on his personal experiences, combined with his rigorously researched origins of Roy Hart Theatre. The inclusion of a greatly increased range of high-quality photos makes this 3rd edition particularly striking.

Evil in Genesis by Ingrid Faro Pdf

The genesis of evil. The book of Genesis recites the beginnings of the cosmos and its inhabitants. It also reveals the beginning of evil. Before long, evil infests God's good creation. From there, good and evil coexist and drive the plot of Genesis. In Evil in Genesis, Ingrid Faro uncovers how the Bible's first book presents the meaning of evil. Faro conducts a thorough examination of evil on lexical, exegetical, conceptual, and theological levels. This focused analysis allows the Hebrew terminology to be nuanced and permits Genesis' own distinct voice to be heard. Genesis presents evil as the taking of something good and twisting it for one's own purposes rather than enjoying it how God intended. Faro illuminates the perspective of Genesis on a range of themes, including humanity's participation in evil, evil's consequences, and God's responses to evil.

Hearing Voices, Demonic and Divine by Christopher C. H. Cook Pdf

The Open Access version of this book, available at www.taylorfrancis.com/books/9781472453983, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivative 4.0 license. Experiences of hearing the voice of God (or angels, demons, or other spiritual beings) have generally been understood either as religious experiences or else as a feature of mental illness. Some critics of traditional religious faith have dismissed the visions and voices attributed to biblical characters and saints as evidence of mental disorder. However, it is now known that many ordinary people, with no other evidence of mental disorder, also hear voices and that these voices not infrequently include spiritual or religious content. Psychological and interdisciplinary research has shed a revealing light on these experiences in recent years, so that we now know much more about the phenomenon of "hearing voices" than ever before. The present work considers biblical, historical, and scientific accounts of spiritual and mystical experiences of voice hearing in the Christian tradition in order to explore how some voices may be understood theologically as revelatory. It is proposed that in the incarnation, Christian faith finds both an understanding of what it is to be fully human (a theological anthropology), and God’s perfect self-disclosure (revelation). Within such an understanding, revelatory voices represent a key point of interpersonal encounter between human beings and God.

Africa and the Bible by Gene Rice Pdf

Africa and the Bible is a collection of essays about the African influence on and presence in the Old Testament, written over Gene Rice's more than fifty years of scholarly service at Howard University School of Divinity. They focus on characters with African heritage such as Ebed-melech and Jehudi in Jeremiah, and the prophet Zephaniah himself, as well as dealing with texts that have been misinterpreted to the detriment of African-Americans such as the story of the curse of Canaan, in which Ham and all his dark-skinned descendants are the ones viewed as cursed. One article provides evidence that the original worshippers of YHWH may have been from the land of Kush! One of Rice's earliest articles deals with the story of Joseph and relates it to Jim Crow; Rice finds in the story a model for racial reconciliation that is still relevant today. With a foreword by his colleague of many years, Cain Hope Felder, Professor of New Testament at Howard University School of Divinity, now retired, and a preface by Jonathan Rice, Gene Rice's son, the book is a treasure-trove of carefully researched, thought-provoking articles, and a perfect supplement to be used alongside a Hebrew Bible textbook.

Virtue and the Voice of God by Daniel J. Treier Pdf

Theology's longest tradition is as a course of study that leads to wisdom. With the growth of the academy, however, theology fell into a fixation with the objective results of science. In this illuminating study Daniel Treier retrieves the older, deeper understanding of theology and connects wisdom in theological education to the theological interpretation of scripture, giving rise to a renewed understanding of the role of virtue in each. Dialoguing with a number of prominent proponents of theological interpretation of scripture, Treier builds on a biblical theology of wisdom that involves the daily lives of all God's people. Ultimately, Treier connects educational discussions of theology and hermeneutical discussions through a trinitarian understanding of wisdom. As a result, the increasingly diverse forms and social locations of theology can be integrated into the mainstream of theological reflection. Filled with interdisciplinary wisdom, Virtue and the Voice of God is a timely recovery of the essential conversation between theological education, virtue, and scriptural interpretation.

First Voices by Walter Joseph Schenck Jr Pdf

""Your work is often of astonishing brilliance...some of the most powerful writing I've ever seen in a writer...I would expect you to become a writer of serious note...I am deeply impressed by your book"" -FCCJ Critique "FIRST VOICES" is actually a series of Biblical stories that revolve around the lives of all the principal characters encompassing the Book of Genesis. It is a vast and complicated work with superb detailing of what could have taken place with original humanity in their involvement with their Creator. As with all my books, I devoted years of research to this enterprise. I wanted to accurately bring to life to the reader the possible mindset and approaches of the multitude of principal characters as they worked toward the preservation of mankind set against horrendous odds of failure. The book takes a conservative but extremely thought-out approach toward the populations of The Book of Genesis. Within its pages the reader realizes the author's in-depth realization of the personality of Adam; his wife Eve; his children Cain, Abel, and Seth as well as their children, and their children's children. The multitude of original humanity is unveiled as never before. Here is the absolute presentation of true character development as is humanly possible given the reserves of historic records. This exploration presents to the reader a complete understanding of what happened in the Garden of Eden, with grand and extraordinary insights. Thus, I strived in this Biblical-novel to present all the personalities of the Book of Genesis within the full scope of God's presence. I delved into their lives as no other writer has. More, I placed them within the context of historical underpinnings of other worldly rulers such as the Pharaoh of Egypt and the Minos of Crete. It was as though I was placed inside an invisible dome in front of Joseph and Benjamin. I imagined hearing the words of the king of Egypt (who would become called Pharaoh) as he interacted with aged Jacob. I also wanted to create their presence within the time-line events of their contemporary history. I wanted to show how they interacted with other societies that were also beginning their rise into historic drama. So the reader may fully appreciate the political-economic currents of that historic era, I penned one incredible drama after another as their traits unfold in this giant exploration of the men of Genesis. The sounds of their first voices give credence to our own survival. Through their examples the reader will gleam the methodologies of spiritual survival of present days events. I set about to demonstrate how a family may discover through hardships the Shield of Salvation from the apocalyptic upheaval. Through the confession of our original fathers we will be inspired to walk in righteousness-because through them-we have a testimony that even though we may fail in our everyday tasks, the Grand Creator will uplift us to enter into his earthly kingdom as he has done for our first fathers. I sought to envision these series of events within the most profound spiritual and historic unveiling of Biblical personalities as I could with the context of Biblical revelation. By depth and scope this book becomes a voracious reading that luminously reveals every written word that our original fathers shared in the Book of Genesis. "First Voices" is rendered with a fresh and insightful interpretation.
