The Hills by P.A. Nelson Pdf

The Hills is a true story experienced and told to me over the years by my mother, Beth. This story about my mothers childhood began in Lepanto, Arkansas and ended in Concrete, Washington. There was a lot of pathos, happiness, and learning about life that we dont see in our families today. Mothers fi rst seven years were spent in a little 2 bedroom house in Arkansas where she learned family values. The second part of her journey in growing up was three weeks spent in a Model A crossing the United States in a move to improve the quality of their lives. Upon arrival in Concrete, Washington, her family settled into a situation where they had a much nicer lifestyle for a time. It is a true story of how families were making it in the Big Depression.

"Can We All Get Along?" by Paula Denice McClain Pdf

In a nation built by immigrants and bedeviled by the history and legacy of slavery and discrimination, issues of liberty, equality, and community continue to challenge Americans. In the fifth edition of this widely acclaimed text, Paula McClain and Joseph Stewart combine traditional elements of political science analysis - history, Constitutional theory, institutions, political behavior, and policy actors - with a fully updated survey of the political status of four major groups; blacks, Latinos, Asian Americans, and American Indians. McClain and Stewart show similarities and differences in these groups' political action and experience, and point the way toward coalition, competition, and consensus building in the face of ongoing conflict. Two dilemmas shape the book; How do we as a nation reconcile a commitment to equality with persistent inequality and discrimination? And what can we do about it - from the perspective of ethnic and racial minorities as well as within the dominant culture? Thoroughly updated following the historic 2008 presidential election, this new edition provides a concise overview of minority politics in America.

Hood Legends by Michael Jourdain Pdf

What you are about to read is the first part of a multipart story about my life, parts of my life that involve gangbanging and not just any kind of gangbanging but gangbanging of the deepest type. Gangbanging on the notorious streets of South-Central Los Angeles. Moreover my life evolved from gangbanging to a leading role in America’s drug culture. While these things are true about my life, I want to make one thing very clear: nothing that you are about to read is meant to glorify either gangbanging or drug culture; in fact, it is my sincere hope that the telling of my life story will steer the youth and others away from both paths as they literally lead to dead ends. So if you are reading this, know that if I had it to do all over again, I wish that I had been dealt the kind of cards in life that would have prepared me for an Ivy League college like Harvard, Princeton, Yale, etc. rather than state and federal prison.

Classroom Collaboration by Phillida Salmon,Hilary Claire Pdf

Originally published in 1984, this is an account of a two-year study of four comprehensive school classrooms, where teachers were fostering collaborative learning methods. The authors draw on their joint knowledge and experience as a psychologist and a teacher to give an insight into pupils’ perceptions of their schooling, and a dynamic analysis of the process of education that they experienced. Working on the premise that successful collaboration demands common goals and mutual understanding, the author observed pupils at work, transcribed their talk, and carried out interviews with both pupils and their teachers. They show how individual children can support and learn from each other, document the social and psychological features underlying the use, or non-use, of collaboration, and take the teachers’ own frames of reference as a standpoint in evaluating success. The authors’ findings were intended to encourage teachers to move away from the traditional view of education as the transmission of knowledge to passive pupils. Social relationships within the classroom can potentially be, not merely a source of disruption, but the basis of learning itself. This possibility is particularly significant in the context of inner-city schools where there is often mutual mistrust and hostility across lines of race, class, gender or ability.
