Invitation by Adrienne Foster

A couple of my favorite things to do when I travel is stay at haunted hotels and take in the local ghost walking tour. One of the nice things about attending the World Science Fiction Convention is that it travels and gives me an excuse to go different places. This year's event, Renovation, is being held in Reno, Nevada. Although the Renovation hotels don't include any with a reputation for being haunted, I did track down a tour operator who provides ghost walks of Reno. This was one of the more challenging ones to locate. Since ghost walks are something I enjoy doing with other people, I made a special point of timing it so it won't conflict with Renovation's Masquerade or Hugo Ceremony. I invite other members of Renovation to join me.

Ghost walks not only give visitors some of the locale's most colorful ghoulish tales, but are rich with the city's history - the more macabre stories that are rarely dwelt on. Ghosts usually arise from trauma or powerful emotions, so their stories frequently revolve around crimes or misfortune.

Join Author/Paranormal Researcher Janice Oberding on this spirited and fun-filled two hour walk in historic downtown Reno. We'll see haunted sites up close and personal. Along the way we'll meet some of Reno's most fascinating ghosts, discover the city's rich history, hear about a mysterious unsolved disappearance, and learn of techniques used in ghost detection.

Price of the tour is $16.00 in advance, $20.00 "at the door," which is cash only. Please go to the Bay Area Ghost Hunters web site to reserve a spot in the Reno History Mystery Ghost Walk. Renovation membership is not required to take the tour, but you do need to be a member of Bay Area Ghost Hunters to RSVP. BAGH membership is free.

Please keep in mind this is a walking tour. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for the climate. This tour starts at the Washoe County Court House (not to be confused with the Washoe Federal Court House), which is about 2-3 miles from the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, and ends there as well.
