Prompts for Fiction Writers by Katie Gustafsson Pdf

For a writer, staring at a blank page, or screen, can be like your feet if you step out in the snow barefoot - frozen! This book of prompts can help unfreeze your creativity by suggesting a line or an idea for your muse to work on until it thaws out enough to write what you need it too. The bonus for fiction writers is that any of these prompts could actually give you a new dimension or idea to add to your work in progress! Separated into four sections, "Writing Prompts for Fiction Writers" gives suggested writing on three of the major disciplines in fiction writing - namely character, setting, and dialogue - and finishes with a section of idea seeds, general story line ideas for your own muse to mull over. In all, the book contains 85 prompts, a character profile sheet (to create characters to work through the exercises with should you not have a novel in progress when you begin), and a brief overview/introduction to each section.

365 Creative Writing Prompts by T. M. Crane Pdf

This book has been written with the fiction writer in mind. It teaches writers, through writing each day of the year on a subject of their choice, how to use description, narrative and character development. Each of the exercises is simple to follow and gives scope to the writer to follow their own style. Writers are encouraged to use their imagination to enjoy the challenge of writing stories on given topics. There is a good variety of subjects and much is speculative, thus leaving the writer free to tackle the story in the manner he/she wants, although one section does encourage the use of first person narrative. Through the different subjects, writers are encouraged to use adjectives and to close their eyes and imagine the characters of their stories, so that they can present them in full color and with atmosphere to readers. Throughout the book, different interests are covered and writers don't have to take the obvious route. We encourage writers to take it a step further and conjure up their own ideas and make these come to life on the page. As they progress, they will learn about how to incorporate: -Descriptions -Colors -Words that sound alike -Narrative -Atmospheres Since each page allows writers the space to write out their story in journal format, we would suggest that writers use a notebook to gather together ideas before writing, thus having a direction for the story. This is particularly relevant in Twist in the Tail stories which lead to a surprising conclusion. Fiction strategy includes the following elements: -Character development using familiar people as models for their characters -Twists and turns to surprise readers -Excitement and tense drama The writing prompts give writers sufficient information to be able to come up with stories and the angle that they approach their story writing from should always be left to the writer as an individual choice. The writing prompts help the writer to create atmosphere, tension and twists and turns in their plot construction, all of which are important to writers in the fiction area. The book also contains popular genres such as erotica, mystery and suspense, murder, romance and love and all of the styles that are currently being sought by publishing companies. It's a good idea to practice because this highlights a writer's strengths and weaknesses and will usually dictate the kind of genre that a writer will choose as his trademark to success.

What happened, and what does it mean about the afterlife?Look-shifting: Technology has evolved to allow us to change our entire appearance whenever we want, with convincing reality. Skin, hair, eyes, height, body shape, gender, everything. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?Superstitious Gods: Every superstition is a god. They wander the earth, affecting those people who worship them by upholding, or failing to adhere to, their requirements. Some are friendly, others mischievous, some downright malevolent. Which god or gods do you worship?Introduction: I get my writing prompt ideas from many different places. Some of the more familiar seeming ones probably come from books I've read or movies I've watched, and I've tried to put my own twist on them. Others are from my own stories. They are more generalized questions of the ones that are behind my own writings. Some of the more surreal ones are from my dreams. I have no end of strange and unsettling dreams to draw upon for odd scenarios to find oneself in. Lastly, the truly vague or random-seeming ones are likely from an idle, nonsensical thought that crossed my mind at some random point, and I wondered what people would make of it. For most of my prompts, I deliberately attempted to keep them as vague and as undetailed as possible, avoiding genders, races, and anything that might point a writer to a specific solution to the scenarios. I don't want to give people a specific story to write. I want to give them a question to ponder that will allow them to create their own stories from their own unique experiences. So look at the prompts and answer them however you want. If you write comedy, answer them humorously. If you write dark drama, then answer with worst-case scenarios. If you write romance, try and figure out how two people could fall in love under those circumstances. If you're into historical writing, try and find examples in history of when someone might have faced a similar challenge.Or if you're like me, ponder them with all the seriousness of a life-changing decision, regardless of what genre of story the answer that comes out may fall under. Wonder how a person could come to that place in their life, what life experiences would drive them to make the decisions they did, and when you have an answer, then ask yourself what would have made them choose to do the exact opposite, or what would happen if a different decision had been made. Do this even if the answers you find make you uncomfortable. Do it especially if they make your skin crawl and your stomach turn, and then let your characters rationalize to you their craziness, madness, insanity, desperation, and fear.
