1805 Austerlitz by Robert Goetz Pdf

This in-depth study of The Battle of Austerlitz, considered Napoleon’s greatest victory, won the Napoleon Foundation’s History Grand Prize. Sometimes called The Battle of Three Emperors, Napoleon’s victory against the combined forces of Russia and Austria brought a decisive end to The War of the Third Coalition. The magnitude of the French achievement against a larger army was met by sheer amazement and delirium in Paris, where just days earlier the nation had been teetering on the brink of financial collapse. In 1805: Austerlitz, historian Robert Goetz demonstrates how Napoleon and his Grande Armée of 1805 defeated a formidable professional army that had fought the French armies on equal terms five years earlier. Goetz analyses the planning of the opposing forces and details the course of the battle hour by hour, describing the fierce see-saw battle around Sokolnitz, the epic struggle for the Pratzen Heights, the dramatic engagement between the legendary Lannes and Bagration in the north, and the widely misunderstood clash of Napoleon’s Imperial Guard and Alexander’s Imperial Leib-Guard. Goetz’s detailed and balanced assessment of the battle exposes many myths that have been perpetuated and even embellished in other accounts.

Austerlitz 1805 by David Chandler Pdf

Osprey's examination of one of the most crucial battles of the Napoleonic Wars (1799-1815). Austerlitz was the battle that established Napoleon's reputation: a classic example of the general's masterly use of deception to lure his enemy into a carefully devised trap. Beginning with the bold and crushing advance of the French Army from the Rhine to the Danube, David Chandler describes the envelopment of Mack's army at Ulm, the manoeuvres to Austerlitz and the counter-attack that resulted in the decisive defeat for the Austro-Russian Army. Excellent overview illustrations of the battlefield at Austerlitz supplement the text by clearly showing the movements of the opposing armies.

How Far From Austerlitz? by Alistair Horne Pdf

Austerlitz was Napoleon's greatest victory, but it was also the beginning of the end. The success blurred his tactical vision and although there were victories after it, the apogee had been reached and the process has begun which resulted in the 1812 Russian campaign and Waterloo, his last battle.

Austerlitz 1805 by Ian Castle Pdf

This all-new volume chronicles the events that climaxed on the field of Austerlitz in one of the most famous battles of the Napoleonic Wars (1799-1815). Not only was it the first campaign that Napoleon waged as Emperor of France, but also the first great test for his Grande Armée. The Emperor himself regarded it as his greatest victory and it undoubtedly won him a mastery of Europe that would remain unbroken for almost a decade. Most accounts of the campaign have until now been based almost exclusively on French sources, but following extensive research in the Austrian archives Ian Castle is now able to provide a far more balanced account of Austerlitz.

A Detailed Account of the Battle of Austerlitz by Major-General Karl Von Stutterheim,Major John Pine-Coffin Pdf

A first-hand account by one of the participants in the epoch shaping battle of Austerlitz, in December 1805. Accounted by many to be Napoleon's finest victory, this account is alleged to contain his own commentaries in the text by Major-General von Stutterheim. Von Stutterheim's text is balanced and free from bias despite being written by a serving member of the Austrian military. Added to the text are the notes of a "French officer," most likely to have been Napoleon himself, who dissects the decisions that he and his opponents took during the battle giving the book an insight into the mind of the world's greatest general.

From Boulogne to Austerlitz – Napoleon’s Campaign of 1805 by Lt.-Colonel Reginald G. Burton Pdf

A short but very useful account of Napoleon’s most brilliant campaign as Emperor, culminating in smashing the Third Coalition against France. Lt.-Col. Burton dispenses with the extraneous elements and focuses primarily on the actions of Napoleon as he guides his troops from Boulogne, where they have been training for an invasion of Britain, to face his Austrian and Russian foes across the Rhine. Another excellent volume in the Special Campaigns series produced around the turn of the 20th century by serving or recently retired British and Indian Army officers. Lt.-Col. Burton wrote a number of books on Napoleon’s campaigns for the series and was an acknowledged expert on the era. He applies his expert eye to the lightning moves of the Emperor, contrasted by the lumbering vacillations of his opponents. Author — Lt.-Colonel Reginald G. Burton (Indian Army) (1864-1923)

The Grandest Battle by George Armand Furse Pdf

Napoleon's military genius as a commander at war with Austria and Russia In 1805, Napoleon and his Grand Army stood on the northern coast of France poised to cross the English Channel to invade England. To affect a successful landing the French required control of the narrow seaway which remained indisputably and infuriatingly dominated by the Royal Navy. Thus thwarted, the French Army turned about, marching eastwards towards the Danube. This book describes in thorough detail the brilliantly conceived and fought campaign that included the Battle of Austerlitz on December 2nd, 1805, which effectively ended the War of the Third Coalition with a decisive French victory. Indeed, Napoleon proclaimed it as his, 'grandest battle'. When first published in 1905 this book was titled 'A Hundred Years Ago: Battles by Land and Sea: Ulm, Trafalgar, Austerlitz'. This Leonaur edition has been edited to concentrate entirely on the land campaign to give the text greater focus for students of the campaigns of French Napoleonic armies. The role of undiminished British sea-power was strategically pivotal in the war against France, however the Battle of Trafalgar was fought after the campaign of 1805 had been launched and had no immediate influence upon it, so the centenary of the original publication to the naval battle is no longer relevant. This edition contains maps and illustrations which did not accompany original editions of the text. Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket.

Austerlitz by Ian Castle Pdf

In this authoritative and beautifully illustrated new account of Napoleon's greatest victory and the campaign that preceded it, Ian Castle sheds new light on the actions of the commanders and questions the assumptions—and explores the myths—that have shaped our understanding of the event ever since. His account follows every twist and turn of a war that was fought out across central Europe two centuries ago. In particular he reconstructs the course of the action in every sector of the Austerlitz battlefield, using French, Austrian and Russian records, and re-evaluates the place of the battle in the history and mythology of the Napoleonic era.

The Road to Austerlitz by R. G. Burton Pdf

How Napoleon marched towards his star In 1805 Napoleon and his Grand Army gathered on the shores of the English Channel ready to launch themselves across it's short expanse to begin the invasion of Britain. But the Royal Navy would continue to 'rule the waves' to ensure that the essential 'twenty four hour dominance of the channel' that the Emperor prayed for would never occur. So it was that he would once again turn his attention for military conquest towards the East. The brilliant campaign that culminated in the victory of Austerlitz is told in this history making it vital reading for all students of the military history of the Napoleonic epoch.
