The 2011-2012 edition of Medical Management of HIV Infection reflects substantial changes in the treatment of patients with HIV infection and AIDS since the previous edition was published in 2010. Based on recent advances there has been substantial expansion of and change in sections dealing with adverse reactions and treatment options following virologic failure. The authors have provided recommendations based on available data and personal experiences and opinions, as well as guidelines from authoritative sources. This is the 16th edition and was completed in October, 2011. Developments in treatment guidelines occurring after that time do not appear in this edition.
