Lord Dunsany by S. T. Joshi,Darrell Schweitzer Pdf

Anglo-Irish writer Lord Dunsany (1878–1957) was a pioneering writer in the genre of fantasy literature and the author of such celebrated works as The Book of Wonder (1912) and The King of Elfland’s Daughter (1924). Over the course of a career that spanned more than five decades, Dunsany wrote thousands of stories, plays, novels, essays, poems, and reviews, and his work was translated into more than a dozen languages. Today, Dunsany’s work is experiencing a renaissance, as many of his earlier works have been reprinted and much attention has been paid to his place in the history of fantasy and supernatural literature. This bibliography is a revision of the landmark volume published in 1993, which first charted the full scope of Dunsany’s writing. This new edition not only brings the bibliography up to date, listing the dozens of new editions of Dunsany’s work that have appeared in the last two decades and the wealth of criticism that has been written about him, but also records many obscure publications in Dunsany’s lifetime that have not been previously known or identified. In all, the bibliography has been expanded by at least thirty percent. Among this new material are dozens of uncollected short stories, newspaper articles, and poems, and many books, essays, and reviews of Dunsany’s work published over the past century. Altogether, this bibliography is the definitive listing of works by and about Dunsany and will be the foundation of Dunsany studies for many years to come.

Poltarnees, Beholder of Ocean by Lord Dunsany Pdf

Toldees, Mondath, Arizim, these are the Inner Lands, the lands whose sentinels upon their borders do not behold the sea. Beyond them to the east there lies a desert, for ever untroubled by man: all yellow it is, and spotted with shadows of stones, and Death is in it, like a leopard lying in the sun. To the south they are bounded by magic, to the west by a mountain, and to the north by the voice and anger of the Polar wind. Like a great wall is the mountain to the west. It comes up out of the distance and goes down into the distance again, and it is named Poltarnees, Beholder of Ocean.

Idle Days on the Yann by Lord Dunsany Pdf

So I came down through the wood on the bank of Yann and found, as had been prophesied, the ship Bird of the River about to loose her cable. The captain sat cross-legged upon the white deck with his scimitar lying beside him in its jeweled scabbard, and the sailors toiled to spread the nimble sails to bring the ship into the central stream of Yann, and all the while sang ancient soothing songs. And the wind of the evening descending cool from the snowfields of some mountainous abode of distant gods came suddenly, like glad tidings to an anxious city, into the wing-like sails.

The Last Revolution by Lord Dunsany Pdf

An inspiration to many for his style and prose, Lord Dunsany was a pioneer for fantasy fiction, inspiring such famous writers as H. P. Lovecraft, J. R. R. Tolkien, and Neil Gaiman to name a few. Over sixty years since its first publication, The Last Revolution is now once again available to readers. In a time before computers were a mainstay of our lives, Lord Dunsany tells the story which takes place in England about the revolution of self-reproducing machines. Known to have a profound distaste for the Industrial Revolution, The Last Revolution touches on a topic we know all too well today: What happens if the computers take over? “Good morning Pender. I hear you have made a Frankenstein.” This is the line that narrator Pender hears from an inventor, and is soon playing a robot in a game of chess. Pender’s mood changes when he realizes that the computer he’s facing has an intelligence far superior to his own. From the introduction of the robots, a tense atmosphere is noted as the robots fight for attention of their owners. Will these machines be able to coexist with their household counterparts, or will they rise as one and take the first steps against humanity? Skyhorse Publishing, under our Night Shade and Talos imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of titles for readers interested in science fiction (space opera, time travel, hard SF, alien invasion, near-future dystopia), fantasy (grimdark, sword and sorcery, contemporary urban fantasy, steampunk, alternative history), and horror (zombies, vampires, and the occult and supernatural), and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller, a national bestseller, or a Hugo or Nebula award-winner, we are committed to publishing quality books from a diverse group of authors.

A Dreamer's Tale and Other Stories by Lord Dunsany Pdf

Famed Anglo-Irish author, Lord Dunsany (1878-1957), was a short story writer, playwright, poet, essayist and autobiographer whose works earned him notoriety as one of the most significant contributors to the modern fantasy genre. His short stories, especially, were widely popular with audiences who enjoyed his formulated mythologies, his examination of the nature of time and human existence, and his satiric, and often anti-industrial, views on the relationship of humanity to nature. This twenty-nine-story edition contains A Dreamer's Tales (1910), one of Dunsany's earliest and best-known works, which is full of exotic and fantastic realms, creatures and lavish descriptions of the endless wonders that characterized Dunsany's work. Also included in this collection: Blagdaross, Where the Tides Ebb and Flow, Bethmoora, Poor Old Bill, The Hashish Man, and The Day of the Poll and other tales, many set in the Land of Dreams and other fantasy worlds.
