Excerpt from A 4-Year Record of Sitka Spruce and Western Hemlock Seed Fall Beginning in September, seed traps were examined every few days to determine when seed fall started. Thereafter, seed was collected from the traps monthly until February. A final collection was made each year during June or July. Seeds collected from the traps were classified by species and counted. Approximate viability was determined by cutting test, that is, seeds were opened with a razor blade and the cross sections examined; those appearing firm and white were considered viable. 4.
