A Captured Santa Claus by Thomas Nelson Page Pdf

They went to sleep the night before Christmas-or rather they went to bed, for sleep was long far from their bright eyes-with delightful expectations and thrills along their backs, and with little squeakings and gurglings, like so many little white mice, and if Santa Claus had not always been so very prompt in disappearing up the chimney before daybreak he must certainly have been caught. For by the time the chickens were crowing in the morning there would be an answering twitter through the house, and with a patter of little feet and subdued laughter small, white-clad figures would steal through the dim light of dusky rooms and cold passages, opening doors with sudden bursts, and shouting "Christmas gift!" into darkened chambers, at still sleeping elders. Then they would scurry away in the gray light to rake open the hickory embers and revel in the exploration of their bulging, overcrowded stockings. Not Columbus was to be envied when those discoveries were being made. What was a new world to those treasures! The thrill of the new jack-knife remains after forty years-it had four blades, each worth a province. Envy Columbus? Perish the thought!

A Captured Santa Claus (Illustrated Edition) by Thomas Nelson Page Pdf

The setting is the countryside around Richmond, Virginia. The time is 1863, the middle of the United States Civil War. The Stafford family is aligned with the Confederacy, and the father, Major Stafford, is away fighting on Christmas Day. The Union Army has blockaded the area around the Stafford homestead, making Christmas shopping impossible. The Major manages to get home before Christmas Day ends, but he has no presents, either. His three children, however, are unfazed, assuring him that Santa Claus is going to bring them everything they want next Christmas. Throughout the year then-Colonel Stafford buys Christmas presents, but has no hope of delivering them through the Union lines in his Confederate uniform. He devises a plan to sneak through the lines dressed in civilian clothes, but is spotted, labeled a spy, and, even though he makes it home, the chase is on, and the outcome is not at all certain.

Holly Hill was a place for Christmas! Holly Hill, the old rambling Stratford homestead in Virginia, on its high hill, looking down the long slope and across the wide fields to the far woods rimming the sky. From Bob, the veteran, within a month of his teens, down to brown-eyed Evelyn, with her golden hair floating all around her, when Christmas came everyone hung up a stocking, and the visit of Santa Claus was the event of the year.

The Christmas Peace and A Captured Santa Claus by Thomas Nelson Page Pdf

1. The Christmas Peace is a novella about a multi-century feud between two families. The Hampden and Drayton families had been feuding since early Colonial days. Like so many inter-family feuds, the original reason -- who had the most prestigious title, "Captain" Hampden or "Colonel" Drayton -- may seem silly on the surface of it to outsiders, like us. But, just as with the famous Hatfield and McCoy feud, there is nothing silly about it if you live in the middle of it. And so it was with Hampden-Drayton feud. Perhaps is was not as bloody as the Hatfields and McCoys, but it was no less contentious. In a surprise ending, as so often as happens in real life, it takes a child to bring the two families together at last, fittingly, on Christmas Eve. Fittingly, because what better present can Christmas bring than peace? 2. In A Captured Santa Claus by Thomas Nelson Page, enter a world of holiday enchantment and embark on a magical adventure alongside a group of spirited children. Set in a cozy village, this heartwarming tale unfolds as the children devise a plan to capture Santa Claus himself. With boundless excitement and imagination, the children set elaborate traps, decorating their homes with festive cheer to entice Santa's arrival. But little do they know that their mischievous plan will lead to an unexpected encounter with the jolly old man. As Santa Claus becomes their captive, the children soon realize that their intentions were misguided. In this delightful twist, Santa imparts invaluable lessons about the true spirit of Christmas, teaching them about generosity, kindness, and the joy of giving. Through Thomas Nelson Page's vivid storytelling, "A Captured Santa Claus" captures the wonder and joy of the holiday season. Readers will be transported to a world where the magic of Christmas comes alive, reminding us of the importance of love, compassion, and spreading cheer to others. Join the children on this whimsical journey as they learn the true meaning of Christmas and experience the transformative power of Santa's wisdom."

Tommy Trot's Visit To Santa Claus by Thomas Nelson Page Pdf

One of the most attractive and valuable of the holiday books for young people is Thomas Nelson Page's new story, "Tommy Trot's Visit to Santa Claus." This is a real boy's story of Christmas. The sturdy small boy with the goat team and the protected youngster who had never coasted before make a wonderful trip to Santa Claus Land. There they see his houses, his shops, and his helpers; they go on a thrilling hunt after polar bears and seal-skins; they drive reindeers and they find some presents, though only as they seek them for other people. The spirit of Christmas giving and of real adventure combine to make this beautifully told story, revealing all the grace and art of the author of "Santa Claus' Partner" and "A Captured Santa Claus," a perfect Christmas book.
