A Collection of Articles on Physics and Others by Jin Tong Wang Ph. D Pdf

This book is about Dr. Jin Tong Wang’s collected research works included: 1) Brillouin “Small Angle, Right Angle and Backscattering”. There were achieved three significances, a) smallest angle scattering in the world at that time. It was a world record; b) discovered from small angle, right angle and backscattering results, the sound velocity was not a constant with the same phonon mode. It actually depends on the phone frequencies. At that time, no one in this field didn’t know how to interpret it. Based on the results in the study, published a paper in Physical Review B in 1986; 2) By the support of Office of Naval Research, we created quite a few navel Ferro-piezoelectric materials. We have done experiments on ferroelectricity, piezoelectricity and pyroelectricity measurements. Based on the experiment we have some intriguing findings; 3) We also work on theories on several topics. First of all, we proposed a displacive- order-disorder (DOD) ferroelectric transition model for para-ferroelectric phase transition mechanism. The paper was published in the well-known European journal “Ferroelectrics”. The DOD phase transition mechanism clarified the long-time dispute whether the para-ferroelectric phase transition was displacive or order-disorder one; 4) Derived an Accurate Formulation of Faraday, Magnetic Circular Dichroism (MCD) and Kerr Effect of Light in Ferro-electromagnet.; 5) published several papers in the frontier of quantum mechanics including: the red shift of photon frequency in gravitational potential; the mechanism of electron photo emission; the unification of classical mechanics and quantum mechanics; the origin of quantum particle entanglement and quantum wave packet tunneling. Some papers have caught attentions by physics communities; 5) two patents created by author. One is microwave-plasma and plasma torch gasifier. Another one is plasma torch directly refine metal titanium; 6) Also published some papers in Chinese. Some were appeared well-known Chinese News Paper. In some paper, the advantages and disadvantages in two social systems were analyzed in physical point of view. All these published papers are edited in this collection.

Quantum Legacies by David Kaiser Pdf

The ideas at the root of quantum theory remain stubbornly, famously bizarre: a solid world reduced to puffs of probability; particles that tunnel through walls; cats suspended in zombielike states, neither alive nor dead; and twinned particles that share entangled fates. For more than a century, physicists have grappled with these conceptual uncertainties while enmeshed in the larger uncertainties of the social and political worlds around them, a time pocked by the rise of fascism, cataclysmic world wars, and a new nuclear age. In Quantum Legacies, David Kaiser introduces readers to iconic episodes in physicists’ still-unfolding quest to understand space, time, and matter at their most fundamental. In a series of vibrant essays, Kaiser takes us inside moments of discovery and debate among the great minds of the era—Albert Einstein, Erwin Schrödinger, Stephen Hawking, and many more who have indelibly shaped our understanding of nature—as they have tried to make sense of a messy world. Ranging across space and time, the episodes span the heady 1920s, the dark days of the 1930s, the turbulence of the Cold War, and the peculiar political realities that followed. In those eras as in our own, researchers’ ambition has often been to transcend the vagaries of here and now, to contribute lasting insights into how the world works that might reach beyond a given researcher’s limited view. In Quantum Legacies, Kaiser unveils the difficult and unsteady work required to forge some shared understanding between individuals and across generations, and in doing so, he illuminates the deep ties between scientific exploration and the human condition.

Do Colors Exist? by Seth Stannard Cottrell Pdf

Why do polished stones look wet? How does the Twin Paradox work? What if Jupiter were a star? How can we be sure that pi never repeats? How does a quantum computer break encryption? Discover the answers to these, and other profound physics questions! This fascinating book presents a collection of articles based on conversations and correspondences between the author and complete strangers about physics and math. The author, a researcher in mathematical physics, responds to dozens of questions posed by inquiring minds from all over the world, ranging from the everyday to the profound. Rather than unnecessarily complex explanations mired in mysterious terminology and symbols, the reader is presented with the reasoning, experiments, and mathematics in a casual, conversational, and often comical style. Neither over-simplified nor over-technical, the lucid and entertaining writing will guide the reader from each innocent question to a better understanding of the weird and beautiful universe around us. Advance praise for Do Colors Exist?: “Every high school science teacher should have a copy of this book. The individual articles offer enrichment to those students who wish to go beyond a typical ‘dry curriculum’. The articles are very fun. I probably laughed out loud every 2-3 minutes. This is not easy to do. In fact, my children are interested in the book because they heard me laughing so much.” – Ken Ono, Emory University

Contemporary Problems in Statistical Physics by George H. Weiss Pdf

This collection of independent articles describes some mathematical problems recently developed in statistical physics and theoretical chemistry. The book introduces and reviews current research on such topics as nonlinear systems and colored noise, stochastic resonance, percolation, the trapping problem in the theory of random walks, and diffusive models for chemical kinetics. Some of these topics have never before been presented in expository book form. Applied mathematicians will be introduced to some contemporary problems in statistical physics. In addition, a number of unsolved problems currently attracting intensive research efforts are described, and some of the techniques used in this research are outlined, along with principal results and outstanding questions. A wide spectrum of mathematical techniques is covered, but the main emphasis is on introducing the mathematician to different research areas with open and interesting problems. This is an ideal starting point for the mathematician with an elementary acquaintance with the methodology of statistical physics. The material is meant to be introductory and terms are carefully defined. Many topics that require further study are introduced, providing new research ideas for the applied mathematician or thesis problems for the graduate student.

Physics and Politics in Revolutionary Russia by Paul R. Josephson Pdf

Aided by personal documents and institutional archives that were closed for decades, this book recounts the development of physics—or, more aptly, science under stress—in Soviet Russia up to World War II. Focusing on Leningrad, center of Soviet physics until the late 1930s, Josephson discusses the impact of scientific, cultural, and political revolution on physicists' research and professional aspirations. Political and social revolution in Russia threatened to confound the scientific revolution. Physicists eager to investigate new concepts of space, energy, light, and motion were forced to accommodate dialectical materialism and subordinate their interests to those of the state. They ultimately faced Stalinist purges and the shift of physics leadership to Moscow. This account of scientists cut off from their Western colleagues reveals a little-known part of the history of modern physics.

Chemistry and Physics of Solid Surfaces VIII by Ralf Vanselow,Russell Howe Pdf

This volume contains review articles written by the invited speakers at the ninth International Summer Institute in Surface Science (ISISS 1989), held at the Uni versity of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in August of 1989. During the course of ISISS, invited speakers, all internationally recognized experts in the various fields of surface science, present tutorial review lectures. In addition, these experts are asked to write review articles on their lecture topic. Former ISISS speakers serve as advisors concerning the selection of speakers and lecture topics. Emphasis is given to those areas which have not been covered in depth by recent Summer Institutes, as well as to areas which have recently gained in significance and in which important progress has been made. Because of space limitations, no individual volume of Chemistry and Physics of Solid Surfaces can possibly cover the whole area of modern surface science, or even give a complete survey of recent progress in this field. However, an attempt is made to present a balanced overview in the series as a whole. With its comprehensive literature references and extensive subject indices, this series has become a valuable resource for experts and students alike. The collected articles, which stress particularly the gas-solid interface, have been published under the following titles: Surface Science: Recent Progress and Perspectives, Crit. Rev. Solid State Sci.
