The Bookbinder's Guide to Love by Katherine Garbera Pdf

A witchy, witty, wickedly sexy romance about love, books, friendship and the unexpected connections that bind us together… Bookbinding (verb): the art of creating something magical out of fabric, leather and paper. As a lonely foster kid, Serafina Conte sought refuge in handmaking journals—and writing her wishes within their pages. Now, in the quirky new age store she shares with her two best friends, Sera’s intentions have paid off. Her journals are in the spotlight—and rumored to manifest great things. Whether it’s witchy skills, real magic or not, Sera’s finally ready to be the leading lady of her life story… Until her plot hits a twist. After the death of her mentor, Ford Sitwell, all the loneliness and insecurity of her past returns. The only balm is the box of antique books he left to her. But Ford’s suspicious brooding grandson, Wes, is ready to think the worst of her—and get his grandfather’s books back! The first part doesn’t bother her. The second? Forget it. Sera won’t give Wes the books so easily. But it’s clear he’s seeking something more, an emotional connection no book can replace. So she offers a deal—work in her store for six weeks, and in return, she’ll help him get closure by sharing memories of his late grandfather. Yes, Wes seems grumpy, but actually he’s hot…and maybe kind? Deep down? And when desire and vulnerability work their charms, Sera begins to wonder if the best stories aren’t the ones you intend, but the ones that take you where you least expected… From showing up to glowing up, these characters are on the path to leading their best lives and finding sizzling romance along the way. Homer's Daughters by Fiona Cox,Elena Theodorakopoulos Pdf

This collection of essays examines the various ways in which the Homeric epics have been responded to, reworked, and rewritten by women writers of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Beginning in 1914 with the First World War, it charts this understudied strand of the history of Homeric reception over the subsequent century up to the present day, analysing the extraordinary responses both to the Odyssey and to the Iliad by women from around the world. The backgrounds of these authors and the genres they employ - memoir, poetry, children's literature, rap, novels - testify not only to the plasticity of Homeric epic, but also to the widening social classes to whom Homer appeals, and it is unsurprising to see the myriad ways in which women writers across the globe have played their part in the story of Homer's afterlife. From surrealism to successive waves of feminism to creative futures, Homer's footprint can be seen in a multitude of different literary and political movements, and the essays in this volume bring an array of critical approaches to bear on the work of authors ranging from H.D. and Simone Weil to Christa Wolf, Margaret Atwood, and Kate Tempest. Students and scholars of not only classics, but also translation studies, comparative literature, and women's writing will find much to interest them, while the volume's concluding reflections by Emily Wilson on her new translation of the Odyssey are an apt reminder to all of just how open a text can be, and of how great a difference can be made by a woman's voice.

The Movie Watcher's Guide to Enlightenment by David Hoffmeister Pdf

Accelerate your Awakening – with the movies! In a radical departure from traditional spiritual cinema David Hoffmeister embraces Hollywood movies as modern day parables for awakening, thus turning the universal pastime of movie watching into a portal for a whole new perspective on Life. Step back, relax and laugh as you learn to see the Big Picture. Allow David and this book to be your gentle guide to a present experience of Enlightenment. “The temptation of linear time is the belief that things would be better if they were different. The problem with attempting to redo the past is that such attempts obscure the realization that the past is over and gone. Healing is seeing that all the scripts of the world are the same and therefore cannot be changed; this awareness is the forgiven world.” Excerpt from The Butterfly Effect review, pg. 28 "Since the dawn of time, myths, stories and parables have been used by spiritual teachers to reveal spiritual truths. Many popular movies speak not only to our desire for entertainment, but are also great tools to flush up and look at human emotions for healing. In The Movie Watcher's Guide to Enlightenment, David Hoffmeister uses movies as contemporary parables, making modern spirituality personal and relevant." -Darren Main - Yoga and the Path of the Urban Mystic

Handbook for Dragon Slayers by Merrie Haskell Pdf

Like Gail Carson Levine's books, Merrie Haskell's middle grade fantasy adventure Handbook for Dragon Slayers mixes magic, mythical creatures, thrilling action, and a wonderful cast of characters. Political upheaval sends Princess Tilda fleeing from her kingdom in the company of two hopeful dragon slayers. The princess never had any interest in chasing dragons. The pain from her crippled foot was too great, and her dream was to write a book. But the princess finds herself making friends with magical horses, facing the Wild Hunt, and pointing a sword at fire-breathing dragons. While doing things she never imagined, Tilda finds qualities in herself she never knew she possessed. Handbook for Dragon Slayers is a deeply satisfying coming-of-age tale wrapped in a magical adventure story.

The Dragon Whisperer by Lucinda Hare Pdf

(This is the 2nd edition so all 45 reviews are found under the first edition April 2011) Fantasy Book Review 9/10 Reading Lucinda Hare's debut novel The Dragon Whisperer is like riding a dragon. You have to hold on tight during the twist and turns, take time to stop and enjoy the breathtaking view, prepare yourself for the sudden lows, enjoy the soaring heights and make sure you're not on the wrong end of that fiery breath! A tale hatched from Hare's real-life experiences and devotion to all kinds of animals, The Dragon Whisperer follows Earl's daughter (and dragon whisperer), eleven year old Quenelda. Her best friend is a battle-dragon with the comically cautionary name of Two Gulps and You're Gone, who she can command through thought alone. Hare offers a headstrong heroine in Quenelda that chooses dragons over dresses, battles over boys and ultimately dreams of joining her father's side as a warrior in the Stealth Dragon Services. Don't be fooled though... just because Hare has chosen a young girl as her protagonist doesn't mean she has written a book solely for that gender. Yes, the tale flies in the face of books such as Harry Potter and Artimis Fowl that have strong male protagonists, but The Dragon Whisperer contains enough dark magic, fierce battle dragons, and slimy hobgoblins to appeal to young boys. Regardless of gender, readers will root for the underdog (a young gnome named Root) and wish they had their very own dragon. On the surface, Hare describes the relationship been Quenelda and Two Gulps like that between horse and rider, but the dragons are given such a depth of history and behaviours, that after the book is shut, the reader half expects to see these beasts lurking in local paddocks. The one letdown of Hare's work, is that, in marketing it towards children, adults might see it as 'just another children's book' and pass it over. The back cover boasts a '9+' age rating and I urge anyone nine or over to snap this read up. Verdict? A battle-dragon of a book!
