Slavery And Freedom by James Oakes Pdf

This pathbreaking interpretation of the slaveholding South begins with the insight that slavery and freedom were not mutually exclusive but were intertwined in every dimension of life in the South. James Oakes traces the implications of this insight for relations between masters and slaves, slaveholders and non-slaveholders, and for the rise of a racist ideology.

Dem Days Was Hell - Recorded Testimonies of Former Slaves from 17 U.S. States by Work Projects Administration Pdf

Step back in time and meet everyday people from another era: This edition brings to you the complete collection of hundreds of life stories, incredible vivid testimonies of former slaves from 17 U.S. southern states, including photos of the people being interviewed and their extraordinary narratives. After the end of Civil War in 1865, more than four million slaves were set free. There were several efforts to record the remembrances of the former slaves. The Federal Writers' Project was one such project by the United States federal government to support writers during the Great Depression by asking them to interview and record the myriad stories and experiences of slavery of former slaves. The resulting collection preserved hundreds of life stories from 17 U.S. states that would otherwise have been lost in din of modernity and America's eagerness to deliberately forget the blot on its recent past. How I Took Control Of My Mood Disorder by CJ Pdf

It is estimated that 9.7 percent of all Americans suffer from some type of mood disorder. And this estimate does not include people who have yet been diagnosed. This book is about my life experience growing up in a family where my grandmother was bipolar, my brother became schizophrenic due to a drug overdose, my mother became bipolar due to a mental breakdown, and how I became bipolar due to a mental breakdown at age twenty-three while working in corporate America and being faced with a lot of responsibility. The book tells how my ungrateful experience working for corporate America drove me to move to Hawaii in pursuit of becoming an astronaut, and how after attending college in Hawaii and becoming grounded, my goal of becoming an astronaut changed. It talks how I was interviewed by Department of Defense contractors and a headhunter for Jet Propulsion Lab and made the CIA on-call list and FBI special agent recruiting list after graduating college, all while being bipolar. It also talks about my journey as a martial artist and how I tried to open up a school while receiving social security disability for my mental illness. And it also talks of the many times I almost became homeless and the time I was arrested and tortured for being mistaken as homeless as a result of being bipolar. Like most people who suffer from bipolar mental illness, my book has the ups and downs of my life and includes the good and the bad. But most importantly, my book shed light on how I was able to take control of my mental illness through medicine and management techniques that can benefit people who have a mental illness, treat people with mental illness, or know someone with a mental illness. This book is a guide for people who want to take control of their mood disorder and is based on my true story of me having a mental illness and finding ways to manage my condition, which I now share with you.

Born in Fear by Richard Dolen Pdf

Suicide, addiction, abuse, drugs, alcohol, and violence can destroy individuals, families, and communities. Through years of working with people who aspired to change their lives, Richard developed approaches and techniques to assist in the betterment of many lives. His book presents an easy-to-read, self-help approach to examining one’s life and making life-altering decisions to re-direct one’s future. Richard has worked in Canada and the US, and truly believes sufferers plagued by toxic attitudes would find benefit and hope in his words. Best Little Stories from the Civil War by C. Brian Kelly Pdf

"This fascinating book will make the Civil War come alive with thoughts and feelings of real people." The Midwest Book Review The Civil WAR You Never Knew... Behind the bloody battles, strategic marches, and decorated generals lie more than 100 intensely personal, true stories you haven't heard before. In Best Little Stories from the Civil War, soldiers describe their first experiences in battle, women observe the advances and retreats of armies, spies recount their methods, and leaders reveal the reasoning behind many of their public actions. Fascinating characters come to life, including: Former U.S. Senator Robert Toombs of Georgia, who warned the Confederate cabinet not to fall for Lincoln's trap by firing on reinforcements, thereby allowing Lincoln to claim the South had fired the first shots of the war at Fort Sumter. Brig. Gen. Stephen A. Hurlbut, who disbanded the 13th Independent Battery, Ohio Light Artillery, scattered its men, gave its guns to other units, and ordered its officers home, accusing all of cowardly performance in battle. Thomas N. Conrad, a Confederate spy operating in Washington, who warned Richmond of both the looming Federal Peninsula campaign in the spring of 1863 and the attack at Fredericksburg later that year. Private Franklin Thomson of Michigan, born as Sarah Emma Edmonds, who fought in uniform for the Union during the war and later was the only female member of the postwar Union Grand Army of the Republic.
